I will watch this movie again and again and again, and after each time, I will enjoy more and more. The real mean of the "JOKER" character can be found in this movie.

I positively adored this one in the theater, and over the years I've somehow found several ways to appreciate it even more. It's the picture-perfect Batman film; dark and gritty and tragic but ultimately optimistic and meaningful, with an armful of colorful characters tossed in for seasoning.
Of course, it's impossible to discuss the film without first touching on Heath Ledger, whose magnificent turn as the Joker unconscionably steals the show from the very moment he appears on the screen. Magical moments, memories and faces routinely come and go on the silver screen, but a role this iconic only comes around once or twice a generation, and the power of his appearance has been amplified over the years. Ledger deserves every bit of the credit he reaped for the part, even if his untimely demise may have heightened the hype to superhuman levels. The things his character gets to do, say, and imply are downright remarkable, and really elevate this from a very good superhero movie into a brilliant social commentary that just so happens to revolve around a man with a cape, cowl and vast personal armory.
As in Batman Begins, the supporting cast is heavily peppered with brilliant performances from Hollywood's heavy-hitters, with particularly excellent showings from Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Aaron Eckhart. And, naturally, Christian Bale once again masterfully inhabits the dual roles of Bruce Wayne and Batman. It's a great action movie, detective story, political thriller, superhero flick and moral tragedy, never feels half as long as its 152 minute run time lets on, and sticks the landing in every single important scene. One for the ages.
The late Heath Ledger performance as The Joker was epic! It's a shame his life was cut short after filming a movie that would had catapulted his career.
As someone who's never watched anything Batman, this was a great introduction.
I don't like to review a movie. But in this case, it is necessary. This is literary one of the best movies ever created and my personal favorite (along with the Lotr movies). When I first watched this movie I was nine and I was in awe of what I saw. Eleven years later I get the same feeling each and every time I see it. It's a masterpiece. The action scenes are full of suspence, the soundtrack is beyond words (Hans Zimmer is a legend!), the directing is amazing, the dialogue and quotes are flawless and the acting is EPIC!! Heath Ledger is playing a supporting role but in reality it feels like he is the main character. He is stealing the show in every scene that he appears and his acting and behaviour makes you hold your breath. It was Heath who made Joker one of my most favorite characters of all time. His acting is tremendous!! I was devastated when I heard of his death. But I'm sure that he is proud and happy of what he achieved in his life and grateful for our love for him and his movies. Guys, if you haven't watched this movie it's a must-see-before-you-die. And for those of you who have seen it, go watch it again. You won't regret it.

The Dark Knight, the grittiest and most compelling superhero film ever made.
Flat out, this is in my personal top 5 movies of all time. I'm sure you all know why. It isn't just the best superhero movie out there. It is just straight up a great film by any measurement. I remember seeing it the first time. I got to go see it early with my boss and fellow employee since I worked at a theater at the time. I was struck by the movie so well that I couldn't come up with conversation for like half of the drive back. I just had to sit there silently and deal with the ecstasy overdose I had.
Seriously, if you think this movie is bad, then I think you're bad at life.
While a great movie, especially when watching it for the first time, The Dark Knight (the second of the "new" batman movies by Christopher Nolan) cannot quite reach its predecessor "Batman Begins" b/c the plot is a bit over the top and there are a few too many Gadgets for my taste. Additionally I cannot understand why they replaced Katie Holmes (who did a very good job in the first movie) with Maggie Gyllenhaal (who does not very well in my opinion) in the role of Rachel.
BUT aside from that I really like this Movie and Heath Ledger as The Joker alone is worth watching this multiple times!

A very good movie! The Joker was undoubtedly the best character!
6.5/10 - I don't really like it. Compared to the previous movie it has more action but IMO less meaning and almost no heart. I think it's simply too dark for me and that makes it uninteresting as I don't really care much about anything. Rewatching it was boring but maybe I liked it more when I watched it for the fist time (I just remember that I was pretty scared of Twoface back then - at least IIRC).
I like The Punisher. It's quite brutal, and normally I avoid those movies as I prefer to see nice things (apart from, e.g., Cyberpunk). But IMO The Punisher has still much more heart and I can relate to his character much more.
In this movie Bruce is basically gone. The billionaire playboy isn't interesting anymore (we already saw that during the last movie) and Batman is badass but there isn't much new to it either. The other characters I care about are Alfred, Fox, Gordon, and Rachel. IMO we saw too few of them though. And Rachel even died, which quite sucked for me (but not that much as she was much less interesting/important in this movie). Gordon's death also sucked but luckily it wasn't permanent :)
One of the big parts of this movie is The Joker. Unfortunately, I don't like his character. AFAIK many people like him but I'm not really getting it. I liked some of his jokes, acting, and lines but overall he was just a maniac to me.
I also find this movie too "silly". I wasn't sure about the reasons but thought it was primarily because it was too unrealistically dark (so much that it became silly instead of just unrealistic). But then it came to me that I do like the Cyberpunk genre even though it is dark. I guess my main issue with this movie is that it is too painfully unrealistic for my taste. Compared to Cyberpunk the world is still fine (at least I assume so and didn't see otherwise) - it's just Gotham that's suffering too much from criminality and corruption. In that case I'd just leave the city as an ordinary citizen. And the crime bosses should just switch cities too instead of giving half of their money to The Joker. That would solve their problem with The Batman as he cannot be at multiple places at once. Sure, it'd take effort to gain control over different cities but that still seems like the lesser pain/problem. And IRL we obviously don't have a Gotham either. Some cities have more problems with crime and corruptions and some less but there isn't an extreme anomaly like Gotham (where all hope is pretty much lost).
In the end this movie has it's moments and a lot of action but I find it too dark and too painfully/annoyingly unrealistic (which makes it feel silly).

This movie hammers you relentlessly into submission and doesn't stop until you finally submit to the epic tale it wants to tell. Reminds me of Dune 2 in that way.

97 | That was total chaos. When we talked about madness and insanity, the joker is all there is. Heath Ledger brought that madman alive into our real world with so much price to make. May his soul rest in peace. The Dark Knight is easily top 5 of the greatest movie that has ever been made. Probably it is the only movie that can use every character, once again, every character without wasting them. Even random people or civilians whom we don't know their name are given a lot of impact on the story. It also combined with a masterpiece editing that was so fast made us tighten our seatbelts while watching this movie. There are also so many powerful quotes that describe the citizen of Gotham and The Dark Knight himself. The crazy part is we learned that with long enough time to live with just a little push everyone who has a pure white heart could fall and lost into the darkness and becomes a monster.

I’m heartbroken, I kept looking up about what happened to Mr. :neutral_face: and I never realized that SOB 2-face murdered him at the bar :rage::rage: the movie deserves a 0/10 for what they did, he had 1 line in the first movie another good 1 in the beginning of this okie but towards the end he was MURDERED, at least we got Justice when Batman pulled a Edge and speared 2-face to this death :innocent::innocent:

I felt that The Dark Knight was if only just a tiny bit less entertaining than the first film Batman Begins, but by just slightly which isn't bad because it is still in the same league as the first one. Nolan continued to bring his flare to his version of Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy. Bale, Freeman, Caine, and Oldman all turned in great performances again in this sequel and with the addition of Eckhart and Ledger which also had great performances as well the cast was excellent and the story line was engaging to watch. Ledger did amazing work bring the role of The Joker to a new darker direction unlike anything seen before.
Fantastic, it’s one of the very few superhero/blockbuster films that succesfully elevates itself beyond just entertainment as a result of its challenging themes about terrorism, anarchy and counterterrorism.
Right of the start, it fixes the two main problems of Batman Begins. The action is much more well choreographed, shot and edited, and the camerawork in the dialogue scenes is a lot more dynamic.
In fact, the directorial approach is very different in general. It’s a lot more serious, and it feels more like a crime thriller than an action/adventure film, taking some obvious influence from films like Heat. I love how it builds tension through the intercutting montages that are used throughout the film, accompanied by that nasty Hans Zimmer score.
The characters are all fantastic once again, including the new characters.
Every actor nails their part, Heath Ledger in particular, but I also think that this film belongs in part to Aaron Eckhart and Gary Oldman, who both deliver career best performances as well.
As for the story, I think that its pretty well plotted and balanced in general. The character arcs are unpredictable and very satisfying, and there are plenty of memorable scenes throughout (interrogation, opening scene, Joker introduction, etc.). It’s logic can be a little too thin in places, however. The Coleman Reese subplot feels like a gigantic loose end, Dent killing Maroni’s driver while being in the car himself is a little too ‘movie-ish’ for a film this self-serious, the same goes for Joker blowing up the police station while being at the police station himself. That’s really the only flaw I can find in it, besides that it’s a masterclass in acting, directing, pacing, action, music, sound and cinematography.

Christian Bale and Heath Ledger really excel here. The Joker has no value system or moral bearings of any sort which make him a damned frightening character. He's easily one of the best villains I've ever seen in film. Bruce Wayne levels things out as a man driven to do what he believes is right. I found Batman's dedication to take action without hesitation very inspiring. His battle with terrorism in the form of the Joker draws so many parallels with the dangers of the real world. Batman's use of any means to reach an end is also very timely primarily the eavesdropping conflict between himself and Lucius Fox. I appreciated Nolan's support of Batman's justification of using such a technology when actions of bad men require it. The gadgets special effects stunts and all of the other whiz-bang goodies are great to have but the characters totally drive the intensity of "The Dark Knight".

I've saw this countless times in high school but haven't seen this in a few years. I'm extremely happy that it holds up tremendously well. This is just a non stop action ride. Heath Ledger's Joker is absolutely mesmerizing everytime he is on screen. The 4k blu ray with the full screen action screen are breathtaking. Truly one of the best movies ever.
I've seen Batman Begins yesterday for the first time and I didn't like it that much. i rated it 5/10. thought this one might be better but it didn't. i've watched the first hour then jumped right into the last 20 minutes or so. I just couldn't watch more. clearly, it wasn't made for me.
Nolan has made his "I will always be remembered" movie, this is the crownjewel in his portfolio. Perfect directing, perfect story, perfect balance between action and drama, everything is perfect.
By far one of the best Batman films I've watched. Granted the Joker is definitely the spotlight of the entire film!

Still the Batman film to beat, despite some DC fans in denial that Batman vs Superman is better.
Now, just because this movie is one of the most overrated movies of all time does not mean that this movie is not good. There are quite a few issues I have with this film but its achievements outweigh its flaws. I, for one, think it makes sense to appreciate a director who can make a giant blockbuster action movie in this day and age, and not resort to CG'ing the crap out of it. This whole tunnel scene with explosions and the batmobile jumping cars, those were all practical effects and I appreciate the effort put into them. When I think about what I appreciate in a film like this one, I try to think of other films in the same genre and what this did differently to make it better. Not only are practical effects an unfortunate rarity at this time, but one aspect that people often ignore in this genre is the performances. Regardless of the hype around Heath Ledger's death, his performance of The Joker is debatably the best performance in any superhero movie ever. Heath Ledger was able to transform himself into his character in a way few actors are able to. Not only did he deliver a groundbreaking performance in the film, but the other actors in the film also held their own in a way that's unfortunately rare for this genre. The score by Hans Zimmer was great and the choices for when to use the score were admirable. Going back to the tunnel chase scene as a reference, I appreciate the intelligent restraint shown by not including music. Although music can help push for an intended tone in a film, if the tone of the film is already conveyed in maximum intensity without the score, sometimes adding music just because you think you're supposed to only winds up harming the immersion. When you're left to focus on the visuals and the sounds coming from the action itself, and especially in a film where music has already been present throughout, it cues your brain into subconsciously thinking, "Shit just got real, and this is fucking serious." It's because of that that the scene's able to bring so much intensity as it does. This level of conscious restraint is also unfortunately a rarity within the genre. Many directors would have unintentionally ruined the impact of the scene just because adding stock action music is part of their studio checklist. There's nothing inherently wrong with the score, but depending on the scene, sometimes the movie just works better without. Fortunately enough, Christopher Nolan not only has a mind of his own, but he's got a good feel for how to present things cinematically. Now, I'm a type of person who likes to watch a movie more than once and notice new things on each watch. The better a movie is, the more likely it is that each new detail brings newfound appreciation for the film, rather than taking away from its immersion. So if there's one huge issue I have with 'The Dark Knight' it's that it's a movie that gets worse each time I watch it. The majority of what there is to appreciate about the film is what I'd consider to be pretty surface level. Once you hit a certain point, the more you think about it, the less immersive it is. Now, some people think this is the case for every movie and wind up saying things like, "You're not supposed to think about it! You should just enjoy it!" but better films immerse you with multiple viewings. There are a few hiccups in 'The Dark Knight' that break the immersion for me at specific points - the awkward pandering towards a PG13 rating.The explosion at the police station that somehow incapacitates everyone in the room except The Joker. Like, let's just all forget how ridiculous The Joker's plan was anyway. So it was your whole plan to be locked up in the MCU? Would your entire plan to escape not have been foiled if one of the guards hadn't been stupid enough to get close to you? The impossible 'P' sounds coming from Harvey Dent even though half of his mouth can't close to make the sound. If they filmed his scenes with something in his mouth keeping half of it open, then the sounds being made would be accurate. Obviously, the fact that they didn't do that doesn't ruin the movie for me. But doing it differently would have changed this detail from something that breaks immersion once you think about it, into something that gives new appreciation when you think about it. My bias when it comes to movies is that I like to think about them. And as I explained, there were many choices in this movie that were made that do give me a level of appreciation. And I don't believe that those small hiccups are any excuse for me not to think that this is a great movie. If this movie looks like it interests you and somehow you haven't already seen it yet, then I guess check it out!

So much better than the previous film, mostly due to Ledger, Freeman, Oldman and Cain, but Eckhart was also really good.
Nolan manages to fix his trash job from the first movie and does a much better job with this one. Everything about the movie is more refined and almost makes up for it's long-windedness. Having Two Face as nothing more than a cheap plot point is shameful. Either set the character up for the next movie or don't do him at all.
Bale continues his abysmal portrayal of Bruce Wayne and while his portrayal of Batman is better than the previous film, I just can't get over his Trump lips. It was bad in '08, it is even worse now.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I had heard that it got tremendous reviews and that Heath Ledger was fantastic but I really didn't expect it to be as good as it was. For those of you that don't like movies with superhero backdrops, the comic book aspect of this movie was rather subtle and what is front and center is a hypnotic thriller. Gone from the original franchise is the over-the-top cartoonish storylines and characters. That may have worked in the first movie (thanks to Nicholson) but by the 4th movie it was a joke. In fact, if you took away the Batman backdrop this movie would probably be considered for more awards than it has been so far. One thing I didn't get was why they felt the need to add some post-processing to Batman's voice. I couldn't understand a damn thing that Commish Gordon said for either movie but they felt the need to make Christian Bale sound like Darth Vader's brother?

Nolan applies the same treatment to this film as he did with his first Batman film with great performances and even better action sequences, but Ledger's performance is what sets this film apart. Wholly unpredictable, the Joker lends a palpable sense of tension in every scene he is in, providing a real sense of threat to the hero that previous incarnations, whilst entertaining, failed to do.

I'm going to follow popular opinion here and say that this was definitely the best one in the trilogy. Honestly, the only thing wrong with this movie is that Heath Ledger died during filming (not literally obviously). But Heath doesn't steal Christian Bale's thunder completely. My favourite Batman, hands down!

Watching this movie was like trying to deepthroat a firehose. An unenjoyable experience that only got worse as the movie went on.
I had to stop watching because the amount of stuff happening with the plot made it utterly unenjoyable to watch. There is no breathing room for you to process anything or to feel anything. There is just plot. This results in the characters being completely flat, emotionally impactful moments being made completely dull, and moments where I was supposed to feel shock or excitement feeling the same as the rest of the movie. I felt like someone took my brain out of my skull and ran sandpaper all over it. And by the time I was like "surely the movie's done", I was only an hour in. So I DNF-ed it.
Some might say that the pacing was a stylistic choice, to make you feel like how the Joker feels. Other more enlightened people who know what decent movies look like (and have a functioning brain) would say that this is just poor writing and editing.
Good writing and editing requires making difficult decisions about what to keep out of a movie. Movies are not books. They are 1-3 hours long, and there's a limit on the amount of content you can fit into that. You need to not only hit all the important plot points, but also leave space for your audience to be able to process things and make things emotionally impactful. Good writing and editing necessitates making clever sacrifices to maintain that delicate balance.
Nolan just straight up refuses to do this lol. I'm sure there's fans that are going to be like "there's deleted scenes! He cut some stuff out!" But at the same time, there is no breathing room in this story. It is just plot. And that's the sign of piss-poor editing and writing, which is really sad.
This movie had a lot of potential. It earns a point more than Oppenheimer for me, which was one of the most excruciatingly boring experiences I've ever had in a theater. But where Oppenheimer was completely devoid of content, meaning, or depth, this movie has too much of it.
And that to me (so far) seems to be Nolan's schtick. He's really good at making movies that seem to be good movies on the surface, but are missing one or more of the elements that make them amazing movies. You might get dazzling visuals, but no substance. You might get an amazing plot, but no breathing room or emotional depth to the movie. And because these missing elements are so critical to the movie's success, because they are the foundation upon which all the other parts rest, when they're not there, the entire movie collapses in on itself.
For that, this movie gets a 4/10. From my rating criteria:
"A movie which was so unengaging and underwhelming it in its overall effect, to the extent that you're finding it difficult to fight the urge to want to stop watching. Lethargic and emotionally numbing."
That about sums this up for me. Disappointing to say the least.
