A classic that didn't age well, my main problem with this movie is that it doesn't have a proper ending, other than that is an OK movie.
Oh, this was really pretty good. I thought I was tuning into an Ed Wood-style B-movie, but this was actually my favorite style of science fiction. Very light on the fantastic, and heavy on the real-world implications of the fantastic developments. While this is a movie that is clearly a product of its times, it never feels dated–neither through its special effects nor through the timelessness of its humanism. Really loved Patricia Neal in this.
A movie that expose very well that it wants to criticize: how the fear of the unknown things, the anti-scientific negationism and the greed affect the humanity. Also this movie brings a clever and current message even to nowadays, awesome how it aged well like wine, be on the rhythm or in the general.
Nice reflection on mankind's stupidity.
You see climate disruption today and nothing really profound is done trying to stop it. There's always an excuse.
It doesn't have the elaborate plot that modern day science fiction films have but The Day the Earth Stood Still is one of the films that popularized the genre. The story has a strong message and likeable characters. Obviously the effects have seen better days but I think this movie still works pretty well considering its nearly 70 years old.
