I like the movie a lot. Its a very intense thriller, providing a deep atmosphere. People which are searching for action and huge bam bam will be disappointed.
Those people which are searching for intense screenplay, characters and mixed up relationships will find a Tom Hardy trapped in its loyality to his own cousin and his own responsibility and way. Mixed up in those feeling you can see how he is growing in that situtation and what circumstances his once made decision will cause.
Its based on a short story by Denis Lehane... I am a huge fan of him, and I didnt know that before...
Finally watched this tonight. It felt long, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Sometimes takes me awhile to watch a movie that features someone that passed away shortly thereafter. Love Gandolfini of course. This is an understated gem of a movie that just isn't quite very good, but is still recommended and well acted overall. 7.5 for me, but one I move to a 7 vs up to an 8 on a 10 pt scale.
The film was a bit slow, though it was a key part of setting the tone. Certainly not a bad film, but not fully engaging. I felt it's value really came from Tom Hardy proving himself to be an incredible actor. If you'll watch an entire film to see one actor do his job well, this is worth the watch. A noteworthy entry into modern crime dramas, too.
Intense crime drama, it's like the audience is made as clueless as Bob (Tom Hardy) was, wondering which all these events will lead up to. It takes the time for the audience to connect the dots, and remain it as such, however, so some subplots might feel a bit disjointed for a while.
I like this movie Tom Hardy is a exclent actor, and this thriller/drama movie with him is good.
Gandolfini's last film. I really nice little character study with a good ending.
best film I have watched in a while. loved the suspense and the alternative take to the gangster persona. "the other side" if you will.
The last movie James Gandolfini was in before he passed away.
R.I.P.
Not sure why but I go back and watch this movie frequently.
It seems many will disagree, but I found 'The Drop' incredibly uninspiring.
I don't look at ratings/reviews of films until after I watch them, to allow myself to form my own opinion. So you can imagine my surprise at seeing this rated fairly highly across many platforms. I respect that, but for me this is terrible.
First of all, I must say this, I love Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini - two superb actors. That's where the good for this film ends. Neither Hardy or Gandolfini give their best here, though are not helped by the poor script and lacklustre premise.
You can tell they were going for something smart, like that mechanic they use for the drops inside the bar - they show it once at the beginning, then a few times near the conclusion as if it's something mind-blowing.
I realised at one point I was 1hr 15mins or so in and was shocked as nothing had happened. To me, this is the definition of a plodding storyline. They build and build without it leading to anything, even throwing in an entirely predictable love quarrel.
Back to the onscreen people, Hardy's accent bothered me too. I'm not normally one to critique accents, I even like Don Cheadle's 'effort' in the 'Ocean's' trilogy for example. It felt so forced. The other cast members are entirely forgettable, also.
I think the reason I'm so frustrated by this is the fact it has two great leads, with an initial plot that could be enthralling. Instead, it's an absolute snoozefest. Perhaps I missed something?
The Drop
A crime thriller, with a cute puppy.
The overall story was good, however it was told in a way that I found erratic and difficult to follow.
Most of the acting was stiff, Hardy the most.
Gandolfini was good, but type cast
Hard to recommend.
6/10

7.3/10! I liked it but it was very slow with no dramatic or action scenes!
A good movie that could have been great.
Not great, but entertaining enough.
Great and interesting film. It was really thrilling. I liked characters of Noomi Rapace and James Gandolfini very much.
There were people in the theater. I liked what they say, the atmosphere, and how told the things, the actors are good, especially Tom Hardy
this gonna be great , can't wait

Gritty, believable, unpredictable. For fans of crime film and literature, it can hardly be done better than this.
