Genuinely a great movie as can be expected from Denzel Washington, an edgy thriller keeps you on your toes. A sequel better then the original that pulls you in emotionally and intellectually, multiple plots leading to a hell of an ending. If you haven't seen it then your missing out cause its an entertaining movie.

If Michael Meyers was a good guy assassin, he'd be Denzel's character. Walk to your victim, kill them cause you're invincible.
To be honest, I'm not quite sure why the first Equalizer deserved a sequel. With this movie, everything just moves way to slow. It takes way too long to actually get going. The action scenes are, of course, entertaining, but they aren't enough to save this film.
"Who are you?" "Ya Father, your mum just didn't tell you about me" - Literally cried with laughter
I must be the only person who prefers this film over the first one, Denzel Washington returns as the Equalizer and just like in the first film, he kills it in this role and acts the hell out of an action film that honestly doesn't need it but trust me it makes these films so much better. But seriously I like this one more as the story is so much better and engaging to me, also the cast is better in this film with the addition of Pedro Pascal (Dave York) and Ashton Sanders (Miles Wittaker) being absolutely fantastic.
Still think this franchise would make a better TV Series as watching Denzel go through lots of different cases throughout this film is honestly perfect and keeps the film exciting and interesting. But Antoine Fuqua finds a way to pull this off much better in this film with better pacing and also he is an underrated action director because though he uses shaky-cam / quick-cut action film techniques he does affectively as it makes the action scenes a little more unique.
Give this a watch and get ready to have some fun :)
Well I expected more action on this sequel. Equalizer 1 was better.
A man who refuses to go to a senior citizens' home goes on a rampage, Part 2!
It should've been called The Boredom 2.
You know what??... senior citizens...yet slow..and dangerous behind the wheel... can still serve a purpose
I enjoyed the film, but there was no real plot to speak of. With no real mention of the motivation behind the bad guy's wrongdoings, the film is basically just a number of set pieces in search of something to string them together. Still, the action was good, and the final thirty minutes, while preposterous, was pretty inventive. Doesn't hold a candle to the original 80's tv show though, and regrettably, doesn't even try to mimic that show's cool theme tune.
This movie is the cinematic equivalent of overdosing on sleeping pills. It's almost as if the screenwriters, producers, and director ran out of ideas halfway through and thought are well just put some action in at the end and send to release.
Denzel was good and I like the kind of action they used here. You know, the believable kind, not that over the top stuff. Started really well with a good story build-up that ultimately led nowhere. Also very generic and predictable. The showdown was a bit dissapointing because those black-ops guys were no challenge. I liked the first one more but this one is still good for some straight action.
If you like the first one, you probably like this one too.
I'm convinced Equalizers only made this sequel because the first one was not too bad and they wanted to equalize it by making one that was not too good.
The superfluous plot lines made it feel like a TV episode, the loose ends they left hanging at the end tripped me up, and what little action they had was as blah as the thick grey filter they filmed everything through which made the film seem muddied and as dim as the script.
And the bad guys have to kill everyone they see to 'tie up loose ends'? Not suspicious at all, that! "Oh, the police are convinced her death was a robbery? Let's kill her husband who wasn't even in the same country so that they change their minds!"
Stop trying to make this a John Wick franchise, please. We already have one of those and that's already almost one too many.
It was a poor follow up to the first movie. The build up and the in between action were counter productive to the action. If you haven't seen the first movie and you are a Denzel fan then you just may like EQ2 otherwise it was substandard.
The Equalizer II. Denzel Washington's first sequel. So if you've seen the first one and really liked it or if your a general fan of action movies with very slight humor sprinkled in then you should like it. If you haven't seen the first one however then I would say to watch that one instead.
They released the first movie back in 2015 I remember feeling like it was a new kind of action movie. In the same vein as the John Wick movies. I had hoped that EQ2 would have countinued that. Unfortunately it doesn't.
It is a solid movie overall and it's worth watching if you've seen everything else and have already seen the first one.
Not as good as the first, but that was no big surprise since the first was surprisingly good. The action sequences are still strong, but the story holding the thing together was not all that interesting and led to very little. Disappointing.
The action scenes are pretty good but they are too few and far between. What we get to fill the time is boring and pointless. Denzel is fine but he doesn't give the same performance he gave before. The first he had these little quirks that made him different. This one it felt like they just didn't care and made him a normal bland badass.
I liked it better after a rewatch.
Decent, better than the first movie which I do not remember at all. The plot is not complicated and easy to see through, but overall pretty entertainment flick. Except for last 15 minutes which are cheesy AF.
Denzel returns to distribute shots and punches between the bad guys, the thing has been fine, I like their fight scenes, the final part has not convinced me
Went to see the movie with low expectations. glad I did. It's not a bad movie, it's entertaining and fun. The action scenes are great, well shot and planned. For me it's a movie to see at home on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Do you know how bad a pride and prejudice adaptation have to be for me to rate it this low!? i enjoy the hallmark movies for crying out loud! also is anyone in this movie actually british cause that would be ironic af.
:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart: - What was the reason for killing the couple in Brussels? Denzel’s performance is outstanding as usual.

Greetings, fellow travelers of the frosty cinematic realm! I am Kiba Snowpaw, the alpha Ice Wolf from the frozen world of HowlStrom, and I'm here to share my exhilarating review of the 2018 action thriller, "The Equalizer 2." So, grab your furry coats and let's dive into this icy adventure!
Basic Plot Summary: A Subzero Quest
"The Equalizer 2" takes us back into the world of Robert McCall, portrayed by the legendary Denzel Washington. McCall may seem like an ordinary man, but beneath his unassuming facade lies a past shrouded in mystery. He has retired from his life as a vigilante but finds himself drawn back into action when a dear friend is brutally murdered. McCall embarks on a chilling quest to unravel the truth and deliver justice, crossing paths with old allies and new adversaries.
Analysis/Evaluation: A Blizzard of Excellence
This sequel to the original "Equalizer" is nothing short of spectacular. It builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, offering a thrilling and emotionally resonant experience.
Characters: The Frosty Heroes and Villains
Denzel Washington's reprisal of the role of McCall is nothing short of captivating. McCall's character, now fleshed out further, navigates the complexities of his past and present with grace. New characters, like Susan Plummer (played by Melissa Leo), add depth to the narrative, while old friends, like Susan's husband Brian Plummer (played by Bill Pullman), provide a sense of continuity.
Structure: A Snowstorm of Suspense
The film's pacing, reminiscent of a blizzard's ebb and flow, masterfully weaves together moments of suspense and emotion. It takes its time to develop the characters and their relationships, allowing the audience to invest deeply in their fates.
Impact: An Avalanche of Emotions
"The Equalizer 2" leaves a profound impact, much like the howling winds of HowlStrom. It delves into themes of loyalty, justice, and the consequences of one's actions, leaving viewers with much to contemplate.
Hook and Thesis: A Frigid Quest for Truth
The hook of "The Equalizer 2" lies in the timeless theme of seeking justice for the fallen. Its thesis asserts that even in the coldest of circumstances, the embers of righteousness can ignite a blazing fire.
Praise and Critique: A Frosty Masterpiece
While some may argue that sequels often pale in comparison to their predecessors, "The Equalizer 2" defies that notion. It retains the brilliance of Denzel Washington's performance and adds layers of complexity to the character of McCall. The action sequences are as breathtaking as a snow-covered landscape, and the emotional depth is palpable.
Evaluation: A Snowy Triumph
"The Equalizer 2" stands as a testament to the power of storytelling within the action genre. It takes the elements that made the first film great and elevates them to new heights. Denzel Washington's portrayal of McCall is, once again, a tour de force.
Comparison and Conclusion: A Frosty Masterstroke
In the vast tundra of action sequels, "The Equalizer 2" stands tall as a frosty masterpiece—a film that not only lives up to its predecessor but surpasses it. As I bid farewell to this chilling adventure, I can only hope for more cinematic experiences as exceptional as this one.
Stay frosty, my friends, and may your cinematic journeys be as exhilarating as a winter storm on the plains of HowlStrom.
Just the first movie would have been enough but I’m not mad about this one, the story it’s just not it , but anyway I enjoyed Denzel’s performance
The Equalizer is one of those franchises where I found the first movie to be a bit meh, and then the second and third instalments to be progressively awesome. My recommendation is to use the first movie as an opportunity to familiarise yourself with Robert McCall and his quirks, such as timing activities using his Suunto wristwatch. Him and that watch will take you into the next level in The Equalizer 2 and 3.
I love that this does superheroes better than superhero movies as The Equalizer not only blows up bad guys and slices them from the back of the neck, but he also is a pillar of his community and takes care of the little guy.
Solves my biggest problem with the first film by simply being a sequel. Instead of 30 minutes of retired Denzel and no action, this entry jumps right into badass Denzel and plenty of action. On top of that, I think the episode-of-the-week style side quests that Denzel gets up to in this film are superior to those in the original, with the Lyft driver set-up being a clever way to introduce them. The dialogue is consistently good, and Denzel is fantastic as always. As with the first, the villains in this entry have some great sequences, from the brutal staged suicide to the tense encounter in the middle of a suburban street. The plot feels a bit hand-wavey with respect to some of the details, but the big pieces are interesting enough to carry it through. The finale was also a mixed bag. I liked the setting and thought the hurricane effects were surprisingly solid. However, the villains’ strategy was a bit of a headscratcher given those conditions and the whole sequence plays out a bit too convenient for my tastes. Overall, a small, but noticeable, improvement on what was already a solid first entry. Looking forward to the third!
i have never seen a movie that is more essence-less than this one, and the flow is just completely out of order and all over the place for absolutely no reason whatsoever, first one was slightly better, eeh
"Make sure I get a 5-star rating, junior."
Better than the original! This one's more emotional, there's a who's the killer mystery, it's more realistic and the story feels more personal to our main character. McCall is now more fleshed out as a character and his interactions with Miles were a great addition. Same for Susan and Dave. I predicted who the killer was in advance I think it's pretty obvious but it serves the story right so it's ok. A better villain than the first. For the action I think there was definitely more in the first but the ones we got were more effective for me. They're more realistic too. Favorite moment was the fight in the car and the entire third act, what a blast!
A bit slower than first movie, and less about Denzel being quirky and more about slow moving story. Still like these kind of movies where characters are not stupid.
What better place for a boss fight than the protagonist's abandoned town in the middle of a hurricane!
Seriously though, I thought the sequel was quite a bit better than the original and fleshed out some parts of Robert's life from the first installment. It also has a lot of heart because, even though Robert may not have been able to save his wife or Susan, he was able to make a difference in the lives of Miles, Sam and Fatima. Criticism that the movie was boring or didn't have as much action as the first movie is preposterous. Films that flesh out the characters and give them more depth and layers are better, almost 100 percent of the time, than movies that just present interminable action for two hours.
The Equalizer 2 is an incredible action movie that lives up to its predecessor. The action scenes are intense and well-choreographed, with McCall taking down his enemies in creative and unexpected ways. Washington once again delivers a great performance, perfectly capturing McCall's nuanced personality and depth of character. What sets this movie apart is its focus on personal relationships, and the way McCall's compassion for others drives the story forward.
There is only one equaliser and it’s certainly not Denzel haha. Shouldn’t have tried remaking the original series into a film.
I got exactly what I wanted from this sequel - Denzel Washington brings another great performance, and thankfully the rest of the production improves upon the original.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It's still nothing that gave me any sort of wow factor, admittedly, but it has that extra little something more that I felt the 2014 film was missing. The supporting cast/characters are more memorable for one, with Pedro Pascal and Ashton Sanders being very welcomed additions.
Pacing-wise it's also improved, as is the whole vibe of the flick in truth. The twist is a good'un, while the use of weather is excellent; using stormy conditions can easily be overdone, as seen in 2020's 'Force of Nature' for example, but it really adds to the atmosphere here nicely.
We're just short of a year from 'The Equalizer 3'? Sign me up!
In my opinion was this movie better than the first one.
I mean seriously, Robert seemed like a totally neurotic psychopath in the first movie. Including his sleeping fit after his first kill. While it was established, that he had sleeping problems.
Here Robert seems more a concerned character, that cares for his friend's death, his protégé's safety.
I kind of suspected Dave to be involved. The actor does a lot of villains. But sincerely hoped he was a good guy. I like the actor
Ok, pretty good movie, it has some surprises but in finale... bro...Was that really necessary that you killed Dave like this? It's f.. cruel.
If you're a Denzel fan give it a spin, otherwise this franchise should end here.
Doesn’t beat the first but does a good job and do love the action and he always does a decent performance and can’t wait to see more from him..
Totally cliche and not worthy of Denzel Washington’s talents. Denzel’s best roles and movies definitely aren’t when he’s in a remake of a movie or tv show.
Who has The Magnificent Seven, Taking Pelham 123, The Equalizer and The Preachers Wife in their Top 10 Denzel movie list ?
The Equalizer 2 continues the story of Robert McCall, a former government assassin. Robert is the ultimate vigilante do-gooder. This film differs from the original as it has multiple storylines. The original was focused on one. Denzel Washington is terrific as a damaged soul who seeks to help others to relieve the pain he has suffered. There are a few slow spots but that's a minor complaint given the overall flow of the film. Viewers who enjoyed the first film will certainly enjoy this one. Assuming the success of the film, we should expect to see more of Robert McCall in the future...a strong successor to the Bourne series.
The Equalizer 2 had promise but turned out a bit too slow and predictable. It's not that the actors do a particularly bad job, but it's was a bit more up-and-down compared to the first one. Same goes for the directing. If this was a stand-alone, I wouldn't really tell you to seek it out, but since it's giving you a bit more insight into Denzel Washington's character, I highly suspect fans of the first one will like it.
I enjoyed the first film, despite not really liking these type of films, so I approached The Equalizer 2 with some trepidation. There is no doubt the Denzil Washingston’s charisma and laconic acting style made the first Equalizer a success and certainly would tempt a lot of people to watch it that maybe would not normally do so. But here we are with one of my least favourite film numbers ‘2’.
Having said this Denzil Washington is in the film, he does not do sequels, he does not phone-in performances and he certainly does not need the money so there must be something to it. Truth be told there is and there is not. When Washington is on the screen, whether it is being sage, or duffing people over, or just being nice or funny, you get your money’s worth. Luckily he is on the screen a lot. His character is interesting and appealing and to use a very overused expression he is ‘badass’.
No, the problem with the film is the story is a bit tired and saggy at the edges. McCall’s clearly has a strong sense of right and wrong and a strong moral compass he does not need a hackneyed and very old plot-point to drive him into a new and interesting story. A lot of story points could be spotted miles away and it was fairly easy to guess who was going to make it to the credits, who was not, and who were the baddies.
This is not say that the supporting cast acted badly or you did not feel a sense of peril for characters but there is a strong sense of ‘seen it all beforeism’ in the run time. The denouement was frankly disappointing and left me with some seriously raised eyebrows. It did keep my interest though as I tried to figure out who was going to ‘get it’ during the storm and I was dead-on, he with the least amount of lines and screen-time dies first.
More enjoyable was McCall’s earlier ‘equalizing’ which padded out the first part of the story but helped to established that if you do bad and he runs across your path you are in big trouble, they actually made more sense than some of the ‘main’ story.
Further to this the side-story involving Orson Bean’s holocaust survivor whilst having its heart in the right place was clunky and a bit saccharine particularly the way it was tied-up. A bit too neat and lovely.
Overall I found The Equalizer 2 enjoyable and watchable but it was definitely diluted from the original and to my mind perhaps Robert McCall should be allowed to live out his salad days in peace especially when you consider the amount of mayhem he seems to cause from time to time he probably is not going to get away with his vigilantism for too much longer.
Fair second movie for equalizer but not even near in the first one..Plot is slow and way too simple..In first hour is very likely someone will get bored. 6.4/10 worths a watch for directing and Danzel!
Not too bad, but too predictable
Action was really good still remember the audience I saw this with they would all go crazy during the action scenes although im pretty sure they were all middle aged married couples anyway this movies has lots of issues dosen't mesh very well between all of the elements in this movie I feel like the writing room had a board of things they wanted to include in this movie and then just put them all together without much thought. Average movie with great action although if you like the first Equalizer which I didn't care for either you'll probably like this one.
Top Fortsetzung mit einem Denzel Washington in Höchstform. Teil 2 gefällt mir nochmal besser als Teil 1! Action und Brutalität vom Feinsten!!!
Wasn't expecting to enjoy this but I did.
the first was somewhat good than this one. had more mystery to it.
Another awesome entry in the franchise. It's not quite as good as the first, but there's a couple of sequences that even surpass it. Loved the element of him mentoring the kid.
Yeah it's good. Pacing is slow. Maybe not enough action, though, what you do get is very well done and concieved.
If it's Denzel Washington. Man prepare for some action.
Not the same awesomeness as the first. He's still a machine, but this one doesn't have the mystery. The reunification was sweet though.
great movie from Denzel Washington ☝☝☝
Denzel Washington is pretty awesome in this movie i just cant believe that his friend his best friend was so brutally killed he messed them up so badly and i love the fact that he lets every crime pentetrate deep within his mind and his heart to get justice
Enjoyed this sequel. Dragged a bit in the middle. But a solid movie. Well worth a watch.
The best of the film, without a doubt, are the windows of Robert's house. Nor being in front of the beach with a hurricane on their heads you will see a crystal vibrate. The rest of mortals also deserve a window installer as well. Please, call me.
I had to watch it 2 times to appreciate , well shot, not so good as the first Equalizer but you can enjoy it
The action sequences were ok but I have mixed feelings about taking out the slow motion from the first. You can't really follow everything he's doing in the very few fight scenes he has and part of the allure of equalizer is how he can kill you with like....anything, in so many different ways- like Jason Bourne. On that note, the story was very Bourne Supremacy and made for a predictable twist and unspectacular finale. About the only interesting takedown of note was the wheat explosion. Fans of the first should obviously watch it but it definitely not as good as the first.

A sequel that's better on all levels... exciting, emotional and educational... roll on the third film Denzel... 7.5/10
