Another version of people running around attempting to find essential supplies and avoid zombie infection. Zombie plots are zombie plots... nothing fresh here, except that apparently Glenn Close is having difficulty getting memorable acting gigs. A new season of "Damages" would be much more enjoyable than yet another zombie production.
Remember Ex Machina from last year? Yeah, this is that movie's Zombie-counterpart of 2016. Some people will watch it, everyone will like it, no one will talk about it. It has great acting, lovable characters, and it's exploring a concept that's been done many times, in a different and special way.
It felt like it was going somewhere at first, until it started to stumble over its own concept and collapse into a ditch where it soon died and rotted away. This is an example of a movie that was too smart for its own good.
Their attempt at giving zombies "humanity" was a train-wreck. The way the scientist woman kept butting in every 5 minutes to give a pseudo-scientific explanation of everything wreaked of desperation from the writers, like they really wanted you to buy into this concept but it just ended up being laughably bad.
The only thing i appreciated was how they actually committed to creating a realistic post-apocalyptic world. This certainly isn't one of those movies where the "apocalypse" is only depicted as a burnt-out city skyline in the distance. You actually get to delve deep into a desolate zombie-infested London and the sets they created are pretty fantastic. As a Londoner myself i was impressed, it looked better than 28 Days Later.
But cool sets aren't enough to make up for bad writing. This might be worth watching if you REALLY like zombie movies. But for the average viewer it's a waste of time. There's no story here, the plot is just a boring escort mission that ends nowhere.
Great book mediocre movie ppphhhffrrrrttt
I can't believe it! I got sucked into a zombie movie! I draw the line at Zombie movies - no Walking Dead for me! And, now, here I am. It began with me excitedly following the listings of the 2017 British Independent Film Nominees. This movie was voted 3rd with 5,281 votes. I looked over the synopsis, saw the cast, and thought, "I've never heard of this but it has a good cast and an interesting hook. Let's give it a try." I was well into the movie before the big reveal and by then it was too late. I was totally captivated! This is a good movie, great talent, great performances (Sennia Nanuet is a new talent to be reckoned with), interesting philosophical dilemma, poignant relationships, excruciating human choices, unexpected twists and resolves. I give this film an 8 (great) out of 10, and apologize to all my friends with whom I may have just lost all credibility.
I never even got to the end. Got to about the middle of the movie and was totally bored. I had hoped for a more promising storyline.
Just like everyone said it’s just another zombie movie nothing special and yet another movie with a shit ending
British voices with their high pitchedness, shots specifically angled, so not to show dull emptiness of the UK locations.
Some good gore bits, but also some bad cgi blood bits;
in low budget things they are forgiven and tend to be pretty funny with their tongues-firmly-in-cheek. In this they just stand out like die hard 4.
extremely annoying soundtrack.

The book was bloody great! The movie... not so much.
at first, zombies are in prison. at the end, human are in the prison
Well this film was a gift to my eyes, it was different, not like your normal zombie film. I liked the idea of the sleeping stand effect zombie. Good cast. Best zombie film since world war z
The progression of my face during "dat ending":
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) → (⚆ _ ⚆) → ( ಠ_ಠ) → (ಥ﹏ಥ) → (ಠ▃ಠ) → ┬──┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ) → (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I'm still left in shock...
I can't honestly say more about it than that in fear of spoiling it. It was a pretty nice and interesting take on the zombie movie genre and definitely something a little bit different (especially with that ending). Not sure how I feel about the movie as a whole so I'm gonna wait to fully digest it and let the ending settle in before a final rating. Probably a 7/10.
I would have rated it higher but the ending completely killed it for me. I'm angry.
I liked this movie a lot. Great acting, great pacing and good ending. At least not the typical US movie where the world is save and the man get his woman. I liked that we see everything with the eye of the child (there's no background or introduction of any character).
And the acting of Sennia Nana was perfect human but not human.
A mediocre movie (which promised more) - but I had to sit and think what an incredible young actress Sennia Nanua was.
Really interesting movie, good acting from the main young actress! Impressive storyline, ending was the worst part unfortunately.
While there is competence at display here we still get the same tired zombie formula dictating the structure of the movie. Not that you need to reinvent the genre to make an enjoyable flick but I really can't look past it's awful third act which tore it all down for me.
Really enjoyed this one. A new take on the zombie genre. Well worth a watch.
Where is the movie is
Everyone who said this is another cookie cutter Zombie movie obviously didn’t pay attention. The closest intelligent Zombie I’ve seen was I am legend and they weren’t even close (ok, there have been some comedy Zombie movies that had them, but this is no comedy)! And that ending!!! Mind blown!
Would’ve rated higher if the middle part had a little more action or if the ending with the “others” (don’t want to spoil it who they are) actually happened earlier.
I'm glad I expected less because it gave me much more than that. This is what The Last of Us serie should be. It is very intriguing from the beginning to the end. I wouldn't mind if it was longer, with even more suspenseful and war scenes. But it's okay because it is a very well balanced movie that have a little of everything you would want to see in a apocalyptic movie. Really worth the watching.
Loved the experimentation idea in the beginning. The zombie mother pushing around the baby with rats in it was genius, along with the idea that zombie women had half zombie babies eat their ways out. Hated the ending which is why I’m docking points
Does something new with the zombie genre. Devoid of grand attack scenes but manages to be gripping with clever tension buildup and tactic withholding of information as long as possible. Slightly off the mark conclusion but overall a good movie.
I liked being a different zombie movie
So disappointing! I read the book and enjoyed it a lot. The book seemed tailor made for a film production. But, somehow this adaptation managed to make the source material plodding. It drains the life (haha, no that's not a spoiler) out of the relationship dynamics between Justineau and Melanie, Justineau and the soldier, the scientist and Justineau, etc. All that makes it is a little of the tenderness Justineau has for Melanie. The guy playing the solider did the best he could with a crappy script and pacing.
Having read the book, I was able to fill in some blanks, such as the depth of the scientist's motivations, and the full meaning of the spores.
But I found myself fast forwarding through the second half of the film, stopping when Melanie appeared or when a plot point seemed to be coming up. The movie was that slow. I never fast forward through movies. Usually with a bad movie I stop watching, but with this one I loved the source material so much I was certain there would be great payoff at the end. Instead, the end, while hewing pretty well to the book, still was meh. It just wasn't able to tell the story in a way that felt complete or interesting.
It gets one star for the apocalyptic city/suburban vistas - I LOVED that they had overgrown office-park trees. You know the ones. The fast growing, narrow evergreens they put in office park landscaping. That was a thoughtful touch. It gets the second star for the child actor who played Melanie. She was wonderful at portraying a child not quite human yet also very human, and I hope she does more work.
It really felt a lot like The Last of Us, which I liked. It's also a nice kind of different take on the zombie genre. One where it's not about gory kills and robbing stuff from other people. I think I'd put it somewhere near to 2015's Maggie starring Arnold S., which I also liked for pretty much the same reasons.
Doesn’t do the book any justice at all. Aimless and uninteresting, waste of time
Worse than I expected. Boring cliche characters and some of the worst zombie performances I've seen. It even opens with a cliche of a whispering spooky kid. Instant put off and a sign of no creativity. Action bit? Just add some camera wobble to try and make it exciting. The sound effects were terrible. The film was boring in it's attempt to have some meaning. Pointless.
everything was fine until the cat and dog part, i cant i dont wanna see this. so i did not finish this fucking movie
Film che prende per trama e regia cade un po' nel finale. Però tutto sommato consigliato da vedere
The start was kinda promising, but rest of the movie just disappointed me. Ending though... It was interesting. I love love love Gemma Arterton and I think she did a good job as Helen.
One of the worst movies ever
It was such a boring film that I fell asleep while I was watching it.
4/5
The movie is very interesting and I love the fact that it decided for an original approach to the zombie theme that was used over and over in so many different but same ways. Still it is too uncertain of itself and I didn't feel what it tried to make me feel. The end of the movie is great and terrifyingly catchy. But that just doesn't cut it. There are some great scenes but that is all. The actors were chosen extremely wisely and fit their roles perfectly. The Girl with All the Gifts is a movie that most people won't find all too brilliant, but it has its pros and people who enjoy the subject of zombie apocalypse certainly shouldn't miss it.
A pretty fresh take on a worn out genre. There's echoes of Last of Us, so if you enjoy that, this should be up your alley. Some interesting ideas I wasn't expecting to be explored.
new idea about zombie movies
La primera película que veo que los zombies ganan xD aunque son mas inteligente que los de Resident Evil 3 y buenos de alguna forma...
Typical zombie film, people try to avoid them and survive. The whole premise with the little girl was a bit surprising but it fail flat of plot and story. The acting of Melanie was good though

A refreshing take on the zombie genre. A remarkable similarity in theme to the PS4 game The Last of Us, the landscape to the film is one of devastation and disease. I don't want to spoil anything in the film so will leave story details absent. However, be prepared for a heart wrenching tale that will make you question yourself should you be in the scenario of the characters in the film.
This film has all the gifts - acting, directing, story, music - and then some.
