I truly enjoyed The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society. (I think that this is the first movie title that I genuinely can't pronouns). It is a story of love, friendship, war and ambition. The film location and the costumes were beautiful and the acting was great. Filled with characters you can't help but fall in love with. Some scenes are light and easy going while the next few scenes tell the saddest stories. This movie found the perfect balance between it all. Playing not only with your emotions but with your heart as well, if you ask me. I for sure am watching it again, as soon as possible.

Moving period piece romance about coming to terms with the past and moving on into a brighter future. Lily James is superb.

This movie deserved better. It has none of charm and sweetness of the book.

If you loved the book, the movie doesn’t disappoint.

Just a wonderful film. Beautifully shot and well acted, this moving story of the German occupation of the small island of Guernsey during World War II focuses on how the occupation affected those who lived there. Lily James is perfect as a curious London writer who comes to the island on a whim and is drawn into the lives of the members of a book club, started on the island during the war. The regular meetings allowed the club members a legal reason to meet and socialize. But the story also explores the dark side of the occupation, including those who worked with the Germans and the painful repercussions. As a writer, I understand the power of books and share the joy that these fictional readers enjoyed in their wartime appreciation of the written word--and the way it can offer escape. An excellent film, recommended for anyone who enjoys a moving story and a well-crafted, beautifully shot film.

Fun for the wife, bearable for the husband.

I had no idea what this movie would be about and that really did benefit my experience.

I remember loving the book as a child, so I find myself quite disappointed by the movie. Lily James is not a particularly good fit for the role, and she has no chemistry with Michiel Huisman.
Also the nazi guy was good because he helped a cow give birth?... Nevermind about all the jewish people who might have been killed by him then, I guess.

This popped up while I was scrolling for a new movie and since I love Lily James, I decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed! Going in blindly made it enjoyable and I was invested in the Society and where it would take Juliet.

Great film/story and a wonderful cast.

So I tried watching this twice, first time I fell asleep and the second time I found other distractions to pay attention to. I feel my rating is probably being a generous rating for this film for myself because it did not hold my attention in the slightest, but I’m sure it’s a fine film for the people it’s actually marketed for, which isn’t me.

This post-war period drama has the feel of a made-for-TV film with high production value but mediocre premise and script. I did learn a few things about Guernsey during the war though. I wouldn't recommend or watch again but it was alright once.

This movie is based on a book and unlike most movies based on books where the book was better, this one was a draw. The movie had what the book didn't: the visuals to explain the delightful beautify of Guernsey and the horrid reality of the potato peel pie. Despite all of that, and some details from the book being eliminated, there was one thing that stuck in my craw: Glen Powell's voice. His accent was ... wrong. While I know that he's American, he sounded like someone with a thick accent trying to hide it to sound American -- thus wooden -- and it pulled me right out of my immersive experience each and every time he opened his mouth.

That said, I recommend a read-and-watch pairing of the book and the movie. Each interaction with the story will benefit from the other.

As predictable as potato peel pie (but a lot tastier), this is a cosy, easy to watch drama that is enlivened by some excellent acting.

The concept of this movie was so interesting. Finding yourself through books and writing and really connecting with people in a way that makes you rethink your life. It was all rather enjoyable and there was the added mystery of solving what happened and what the true story is. The chemistry between the main two characters was actually great. But what ruined it for me was the ending. We all know how it's going to end long before you even start watching the movie, but it's HOW they did it that was so frustrating. It was so awkward, unromantic and just anticlimactic. We've been waiting the whole movie for that one scene. The chemistry was there, it was building and you expect it to just burst forth in the end but it doesn't and it was so frustrating to watch this slow build literally stall in awkwardness. Still, it's a fun watch and I still recommend it despite my frustrations.

Such a feel good movie despite some sad parts in it. Wonderful cinematography, wonderful cast, wonderful characters. Watching this was an experience. Oh how I would love to live in Guernsey for a month amongst that family.

Great movie, cast was well put together and the cinematography was amazing, the child actors did a fantastic job and didn't feel forced. The boot incident at the beginning was pretty funny for the situation the character found themselves in.

Would recommend for fans of The Decoy Bride and North & South, the 2004 miniseries. Also, I love how much Dawsey sounds like Darcy when said aloud, Sidney is my fave, and I really, really cannot wait to read this book.

Edit: I totally bought a typewriter after watching this movie.
