The Haunting 1999

I saw this as a kid and all I remembered I liked it and Owen Wilson getting his head cut off by a lion. It's too bad this didn't hold up. The CGI has aged well. The acting is meh. The story is silly and it isn't super scary.

I loved this as a teenager and revisiting now thanks to the new 4k and as a fan of haunted houses stories, I still find it effective as a horror movie. The CGI holds up, unlike most 90s movies.
But the best is the production design.

NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU MIGHT NOT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)

5.5
remember watching it as a child with a friend and both being scared shitless, but nowadays its not that scary anymore, especially with that cgi, for its time pretty good but for todays standards it makes it look kinda silly. (I still hate those creepy child statues, especially the ones on the bed (who likes that as furniture?!?!)
the story idea isn't bad, but poorly executed and the acting could've been better too. A little more thriller-ish would've been great, something like the candidates thinking they're slowly loosing their mind and then step by step it getting more supernatural, something like that would've been better.
The series are much much better (I just realised the connection to the haunting of hill house xD facepalm)

Atmospheric and intense, The Haunting is an impressive horror film. To conduct a study on fear Dr. Marrow lures a group of unsuspecting subjects to the Hill House, a mansion with a notorious history behind it; but unknown to Marrow the spirits that haunt the mansion have their own agenda. Starring Liam Neeson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Lili Taylor, and Owen Wilson, the cast is quite strong. And, the set designs of the mansion create a compelling air of mystery and suspense; which is added to by Jerry Goldsmith’s moody score. However, the CGI effects haven’t aged well and become a little distracting at times. Additionally, the storytelling is rather poor; with a lot of exposition dumps and jumps in logic. The Haunting has problems, but overall it’s an entertaining thriller with a captivating visual aesthetic.

Star studded cast for the time. It's a decent, updated version of The Haunting of Hill House book by Shirley Jackson. Best watched late at night in a dark room.
