i mean... why? what is the motivation of those mutated people to do that? also how the hell did they manage to make the first six minutes the best? how. why. how. why. how. why. why. when. when?

Very brutal and scary horror flick about a family of 7 (the Carters) led to a death trap in an abandoned US nuclear testing facility. Hunted by a flock of mutated and cannibalistic monsters / humans, the Carters have to fight for their lives. When the mutants kidnap Doug's baby, he tries to track the baby down and turns berserk on every mutant. The only bad thing about this film is the annoying stupidity of the family members: in every other horror film (and in real life) they would have died after the first 20 minutes!

Once upon a time I would have enjoyed watching this just for the brutal violence. Today, however, this is just sick, gratuitous torture and violence for shock value...and credit where it's due, this movie DOES have shock value. Watch this at your own risk... And I'm cutting this review off right here because I've already wasted an hour and a half of my life on this bilgewater; why bother spending more time trying to describe it? Don't bother watching this...it's not worth it. There's absolutely no story, and it's hard to gauge acting simply on screaming, crying, and gibbering. Not worth watching. Period.

Genuinely sick. I quit halfway through. If watching a teenage girl get raped by mutants is you're thing, you'll love this.

I give three stars for being gutsy, making me like the characters, and building an awesome setup with awesome cinematography, but the rest is unsalvageable.

I've got mix feelings on this one, but I'll give Alexandre Aja credit for delivering a remake that offers something different, which is making it as nasty as possible. I really did feel sorry for this family. Not for the faint of heart that's for sure.

Side note: This is totally random, but I wish Nicolas Cage starred as the main lead, because imagine the bathroom scene from 'Mandy' was in this right after the mutant attack on the family - the intensity would be too much.

RUBY DESERVED BETTER! This was surprisingly... sad?

Was expecting something much more gory or disturbing. Pretty enjoyable movie but really overhyped in that regard.

Skimming through the comments I expected something horrific going in, but saw no such thing lol.

Beast is a legend. Beauty deserved better. Ruby’s death was unnecessary.

This film is beautifully brutal. I remember first watching this when it came out, I was 11 or 12 and it was so unsettling I had to turn it off and muster up the willpower to resume later. About 16 years later and this is still an incredibly unsettling movie, possibly the most unsettling movie I’ve ever seen. It’s a revenge flick that truly makes you feel the weight of why revenge has to happen. However, this will surely turn some people away. If you are a Wes Craven fan, a fan of the original, or like brutal horror movies, you should check this one out…but don’t say I didn’t warn you about that scene.

Rating: 4/5 - 8.5/10 - Would Recommend

Yep, a fun one. I like it, more gore would be appreciated though. It's also lacking nudity, I guess because violence is acceptable but hell, nudity is a no no

Excellent Horror/Thriller/Gore movie, similar to the movies in the Wrong Turn movie series. A must watch if you are a fan of the genre. I found out that this is a reboot of a 70’s original and there’s a sequel after this movie.

I’m not sure what some of the people here who got offended by this movie were expecting. This isn’t Frozen. I can assure you that. :joy:

Alexandre Aja's remake of Wes Craven's classic "the Hills Have Eyes" is good. It follows the original for the first 2/3 of the movie and than it goes its own way. The action is brutal, there is loads of gore, a bird's head being ripped off and the blood squeezed out into Lizard's mouth (that is a scene I won't forget soon), dogs running away all the time, that crater with all those vehicles looked epic, the atomic test site town looked like a level out of Modern Warfare 2, Claire from Lost! Suicide by shotgun, the gore looked great in that scene! And we have an open ending, I bet that will be the moment were part 2 starts!

Anyway, this remake looks good, Alexandre Aja knows how to shoot a good looking film, the mutants look great, the story is straight forward and it'll entertain you for 107 minutes or so. This is a remake I can recommend to watch!
