The Hole in the Ground 2019

How did she get out of that hole??

I wish I found a hole in the ground, so I could throw this movie in it.

I enjoyed the acting in this. It felt an hour longer than it was; however.
I was thinking this was in the 5 range, but really enjoyed the ending quite a bit. That'll push it up to a 6.1, but unfortunately I figure many watchers will have tuned out by then. A shame as it's a well directed piece. It just meanders too long. Very different than Cronin's latest features "Evil Dead Rise" of course. Where this is subtle and foreboding, that is chaotic and aggressive. Still happy I watched this.

I usually like slow-paced thrillers. It gives me the opportunity to get to know the characters more than the fast-paced alternative. Couple it with good character development, usually those films are a great watch.

The Hole in the Ground started promising in that front but that’s about it. It just started promising. After the first quarter of the film is over, it all went downhill from there. So many questions were left unanswered

I was hoping that as the film continues, it would all start to make sense but it unfortunately did not.

It felt like the Director and the Writer of the film, Lee Cronin, had an idea in his head and he thought this could be a brilliant film. But he somehow realised once he started making the film that the idea wasn’t that good of an idea actually.

The film gets 5 out of 10 from me. Would I watch it again? No. Would I make my friends watch it? No.

The lacking of character development and a more satisfying ending is surpassed by its photography and sound work.

I found the performances to be decent but the pacing was slow and the story was derivative. Nothing new to see. Also, I really didn't like the shooting style.

The actors is good, especially the mum but somehow felt dry the end.

Nothing really stands out, it’s made competently and the performances are decent but it doesn’t add up to much besides kind of an eye roll by the reveal. Here’s hoping Lee Cronin delivers with the new Evil Dead

No scares, jumps or gore in this horror, just a good creepy storyline that hooks you from start to finish. 8/10.

Not a good movie not worth your time. Story was lacking. Acting was decent. Horror was completely absent. Nothing thrilling about it.

The trailer didn’t do any good, just start watching the movie if you like Stranger Things and Eli combined.

An effective creepy and atmospheric horror film. The film takes its time to establish the dynamic between the mother and son, gradually providing more information on their background and the strong performances from the two central actors ensure that the audience is invested in both characters as things start to go wrong. The filmmakers rely on building tension through creating a strong sense of paranoia rather than cheap jump scares and the majority of the film treads a fine line in ambiguity and uncertainty as to what is going on. That the film ultimately decides to resolve this ambiguity and definitively provide answers is not necessarily to the film's detriment as the final act still works well and contains probably the film's creepiest moment, but there is probably an equally effective cut that could still have retained much of the uncertainty that the film works so hard to maintain throughout. Well worth seeking out though.

Why so many endings?? Just pick one, please, no need to keep explaining!

It does not convince. It's not scary. Not exciting. It does not explain.

That was absolutely incredible.... shallow!

Chillingingly effective but familiar Irish horror, with a story we have seen variations of before. Still worth a look though, especially if you're looking for something a little more grounded (pun intended) than the usual cookie cutter horror movies filling up our streaming services.

The movie overall wasn't that bad. The story itself was just very weak. Also for a horror movie if you've seen many before the scare factor is way below average. The cinematography was quite good and made up for the bores. I wouldn't recommend it per se for real horror fans, but it's still a fairly ok-ish movie.

I was worried I'd be adding this to my list of new hip horror that I find maddeningly boring. NOPE! Really dug this by the end. Decent payoffs.

The movie is a little slow paced, and the woman who plays the mother is homely as hell. But I don’t think it was as bad as the other commenters are saying, if you want to watch something scary give it a shot
