SO much better than the first part! This movie made me truly appreciate the saga for both the characters and the story. So excited about the next one!!

This movie was a lot better than the first one.
The translation from book to movie was not the best, but still everything what init that was importend.
The acting again was great.

So I watched Hunger Games 2 last week and wasn't impressed. I haven't read the books and I can only speak for the movies. The first one was good, and had me looking forward to part 2. But this movie, at 2 hours 26 minutes was looong. And not the good sort of long either. It dragged on, the story building upon and post the events from the last film. It felt anticlimactic. Probably 40 minutes in the film began to show signs of a take-off point for this particular story-arc, but for the remainder of it the movie didn't really -- for me -- take off. There were moments of action and excitement, but it got lost in the attempt to build plot, which also wasn't impressive. 6/10 for the effort. Killed my excitement for the franchise and the next film though.

I rate it "can Finnick mock my Jay?" out of ten

loading replies

This series has a disgusting habit of killing off black people for the white hero’s pain.

loading replies

One of the few times the sequel is actually better than the original. Can't believe I've been sleeping on these films. I just hope the next two keep this up.

loading replies

The best part of the Hunger Games saga. The world is expanding and new interesting characters are introduced. Francis Lawrence did a great job in continuing the story and making it even more appealing. This part was definitely the one that got me really hooked on the franchise.

loading replies

At first I thought this was better than the original Hunger Games movie but then it became too cliche for me. I don't know if it's something to do with the fact that the plot was kind of the same but a bit different.

Having said that, for the most part the acting is great. The sets are absolutely amazing. it's just the storyline falls slightly flat for me.

I liked it more than the first one despite the fact that we can see many similarities between them with the same events happening again (the reaping, the openig ceremonies, the training, the interviews, the games). It is interesting to see more of the districts and how people are treated badly there compared to the fabulous life in the Capitol. The new arena and its new dangers are good but some parts feel rushed like the ending and the love triangle is boring.

I love this movie! I can't count how many times I've seen it.

This movie was amazing. Great adaptation of great book! The director managed to capture the struggle of Katniss and the others characters in the games! And also the fight of districts for better future.
Recommendation to everyone who love this genre to watch it!

Hey Mitch!!! Katniss peeta'd on Gale

loading replies

Didn't like the first one, I loved this! Much much better, I understand why they changed the things they did comparing to the book, and it worked really well.

loading replies

Prime example of the sequels. The first one was at least quite fun. Quite laughable sequences - for being so stupid. We don't even get loli. Points for the dresses tough (also hair styling and makeup kinda).

You can safely skip 1st hour - it is just a boring filler. I guess that if you really skip the first hour you can get a decent movie.

Image quality (telecine?) is crappy on bluray, probably optimized for "smart" TVs.

SO TO SUM IT UP - ONE HOUR FILLER?????!

Without the filler i guess 7/10

It's better than first part. Darker and more real. I think that is one of the best adaptation book ever, very faithul and I like that. Jen Lawrence was fabulous, but even so I don't like Katniss. Film is balanced and dymanic, narrative is convincing. Amazing music! Sometimes phatos was annoying. Team Gale!

A slay adaptation of the book :cowboy:

this is the best movie in the entire franchise, hands down. there’s just no question about it

loading replies

same problem as first movie. great potential, doesn't deliver.

loading replies

Although it doesn’t surpass the original, the film adds a valuable layer to The Hunger Games series. The film impressively continues the story, maintaining good effects and delivering plenty of gripping action. A worthy installment that keeps the momentum alive in this dystopian saga.

loading replies

been a hot minute since i have seen it - i remember it being good

loading replies

The first 30mins was boring and slow.
The rest of the movie was spot on, the pacing, the twist at the end and especially the hunger game scenes were so entertaining. The Katniss and Peeta relationship felt natural unlike the first movie but I still don’t understand why Katniss still choices to kiss Peeta when she clearly doesn’t see him that way. All the new characters were really good cast.

loading replies

Okay, so this movie has literally everything: suspense, emotion, action, romance, character depth, friendship, tragedy, hope, gorgeous cinematography, mystery, sacrifice and ultimate mindfucks. It’s AMAZING!

A quick recap of the thoughts going through my mind when it came to the characters:

Finnick: I swear to god, this boy is SO FINEE. Im in love

Johanna: QUEEN. ABSOLUTE QUEEN.

Peeta: he’s like the equivalent of a small bean, supportive husband, obsessed boy and cutiepie all rolled into one.

Katniss: top tier. nothing compares.

Cinna: his death gave me serious heartbreak fr

Haymitch: our secret mastermind orchestrating everything behind the scenes

Gale: literally no one cares. gooo awaaaay

After the first "Hunger Games" film had potential but never even came close to tapping into it, "Catching Fire" is a significant improvement. The film appears to be of higher quality from the first minute, owing in part to the less shaky camera. The sets are more impressive, the characters are more interestingly written, and the action is better staged. The overarching plot also takes a leap; it's definitely about much more than "just" surviving the eponymous games. Last but not least, lead actress Jennifer Lawrence is utilized far more effectively than in the previous installment. Her acting talent is definitely on display this time. All of this contributes to "Catching Fire" being an excellent film that leaves you wanting to see the sequels.

loading replies

While the pacing at times is somewhat abrupt at times--in large part due to some unnecessary hesitations by Katniss--this film excels in nearly every way that the first one didn't, while unfortunately taking the sound design down a peg. The story is far more compelling here, and there's some great worldbuilding done in the beginning that makes the rest of the film appropriately tragic, and looping us in on how bad tings are getting in the districts.

loading replies

I don’t know how to put it but I feel at home in this franchise. I didnt really have a Hunger Games phase back when it first was a thing but going back and reading the books and rewatching the movies now has made this universe very personal to me. I love Katniss :two_hearts:

Good sequel, even though having a second hunger games is a bit weird

loading replies

That was a lot better than I remembered. Actually a fun watch.

loading replies

The premise of this movie sounds stupid ("we're going to have ANOTHER Hunger Games!!") but somehow they make it work. Again there are many narrative conveniences that actually make sense once you think about it, such as everything Plutarch does, or even the fact that there is another Hunger Games. Moves and countermoves indeed.

Rented it on Google Play Movies after having like the first part a lot. I think the beginning drags a little and it takes to long until something is happing. However, the ingenious ending makes up for a lot and I cannot wait to see Mockingjay Part 1 & 2.

As a side not: Catching Fire was the first Hollywood movie in a long time that I had to watch in German because I couldn't rent it in English. And while the translations were mainly OK, some of them were just horrible. I would therefore urge the content owners to finally stop the madness of forcing Google, Apple, MS and Amazon to only stream synchronized / dubbed versions of English / American movies outside the US / UK! There is no sane reason for forbidding to stream the original tone and subtitles (in this case English) to paying customers!

one of my favorite movies

Well-paced, but had a very sad overall tone.

The beginning is a bunch of preachy, anti-government bullshit, the middle is great, better than the last movie, and the end is anti-climactic as fuck. I don't really know if I even want to see the next one after this

The story to the second film in this series was potentially the biggest problem in that many of the plot elements from the original are repeated here, but by and large there are enough differences to ensure this film stands on it own as well as developing the story further. There is much more time spent here exploring the districts and the world outside of the Games themselves, and each of the repetitive plot beats are given a sufficient twist or addition to make them worthwhile. Indeed, the Games themselves probably suffer the most, with the majority of contestants barely registering outside the core group. The film also suffers from a lack of a proper ending - this may well be part of a larger story, but it leaves the audience unsatisfied with this film instead of anticipating future instalments. Despite this, the film is an excellent expansion on the world set up by the original, and Jennifer Lawrence continues to impress as the central heroine.

loading replies

Superb! I'm really, really impressed at how well they stuck to the book and managed to make it work! The actors were all perfect for their parts.

If I had to name one thing wrong with it, which I hardly want to because it was so good, I would say that most of the characters' reactions were too... quick. There were several scenes where something sudden happened and everyone reacted instantaneously, which is not very realistic. But that's an almost meaningless nitpick. Excellent job with this one, I'd have to say it was better than the first, even though the first was exceptionally good.

Beautifully compelling, and it makes me happy they're sticking to an accurate representation of Katniss from the books: she's just a clueless teenager with no concept of politics who wants to keep herself and her loved ones alive. I wasn't sure about the casting choices for Finnick O'Dair and Johanna Mason at first, but I loved them in action. I wish we'd have more time to spend with all the characters.

wow what a big improvement! This was way better than the first film!

The performances are great, every single one brought a lot of emotion to their characters and the thing that I love the most in this film was the character development. It was great to see at what point all the characters are in the story, their emotions and their intentions.
I have to mention Jennifer Lawrence in particular because she is amazing and of course we already know that! She gives the perfect emotion to the character she doesn't even need to speak, her facial expressions can show us all of the emotions the audience need, to feel sorry for the unfortunate events that Katniss Everdeen is passing in her life, all of the anger and pain that she is suffering.

Visually is amazing with a gorgeous cinematography, set design, costume design and great CGI.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was great and I hope that the next films continue with this quality.

  • "People shouldn't be afraid of their government...Governments should be afraid of their people" -

That quote came to mind while watching this fantastic film.

Cold, dark, compelling, tragic and thought provoking. A beautifully told story of love, loved ones and the fight against oppression, tyranny, government control and their ever watchful eye. (Sounds like it's coming to fruition huh?). Excellent movie, I really enjoyed it from start to finish. I suggest you go now to watch it. Can't wait for the 3rd installment.

Stage designer done quite good job dealing with second arena :)

loading replies

Loved it! They definitely skipped a lot of the tour, but overall it was a great representation of the book.

The entire 50 minutes of the arena scene was intense and very well done. Very close to the book in most regards.

Overall, there was a lot about this one that I liked a little more than the first. There were a lot of funny one liners here and there.
