Pensive tale of belonging and forced displacement through gentrification; Jimmies story is sombre and melancholic, but somehow remains captivating through its gorgeous cinematography and unique style. This is the kind of film making I'm always glad to see, and I'm glad A24 continue to offer a platform to one-of-a-kind projects like this. Lots to process and muse over, definitely one to rewatch.

A beautiful melancholy film. Jimmie Fails and Jonathan Majors were both terrific. It's got some fantastic cinematography. The score is great. The plot is light and the pacing is uneven at times but still it's a wonderful movie.

A chronicle of gentrification. Inhabitants of an abused space (a house, a city), while the authentic caretakers dream of realities built in memory. "There's a whole generation with a new explanation." Home is the one where you put your heart. The one you have the right to hate. "You don't get to hate it unless you love it." It is also the chronicle of a friendship, which remains in the middle of a transformed city, a longed-for city. "In the streets of San Francisco, gentle people with flowers in their hair."

I just didn't get it. I guess mostly because I couldn't relate to the situation or story at all.
Nice in a technical point of view though...

An interesting film to be sure, and quite unique in its tone and message. A little uneven in places perhaps, but still a film that earns a place on your watchlist if you want something creative and original.

It's a good and well-made movie
It's just that the subject isn't potentially enough.
But it's good and affects your mind as a decent movie.

Too long and little happens. But it's a promising debut and the actors are great.

What a beautiful film, they worked a lot on photography that left me totally connected with the emotion that was being transmitted. The story that seems simple and easy to be understood, is much more complex than you think, all the drama built between the scenes took the emotion to flow !!! One of the most beautiful dramas I have ever seen from the A24

More than a movie about Jimmie or the house, this felt like a movie about San Francisco, about the way the city has evolved and deteriorated and the way its people have been affected by phenomena such as gentrification and pollution. The dedication Jimmie has towards the house feels like a representation of the love the people of San Francisco have for their city, and the obstacles he faces when trying to own it feel like a representation of the way San Francisco has neglected its native residents in favour of fake progress and the inflated housing market. It was an interesting watch for someone like me who doesn't know anything about San Francisco but can relate these issues to places I do know. The use of an almost magical fantasy-like photography elevates the story.
