The Last Waltz 1978

Mostly the recommendation engine on this site is just laughable. But, likening this great concert to "Glee 3D" that's just insulting.

The energy and the vibe of this concert is palpable even without my own personal frame of reference to most of the songs. You just immediately get that it’s special and it’s a privilege that Scorsese was there to capture it all. And Robbie Robertson was one of the coolest motherfuckers to ever exist.

Like a Thanksgiving dinner in July, this gourmet buffet had all the warmth of aged red wine and all the taste a master chef could bring.

I've been spoiled lately. Last night I saw a 4K restored version of the Japanese classic Ran, and tonight the same arthouse theater showed a 4K restored version of Martin Scorsese's 1976 farewell gift to The Band.

Is it a great film? Yes, of course it is. But is it great because of Scorsese, or just because of the sheer volume of talent (Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield...) that rocked the stage?

Of course the answer is, Who cares as long as I get to watch it.
