The Life of Emile Zola 1937

Quite a good performance by Muni, although sort of strange that he doesn't have a whole lot to do throughout the very long courtroom scenes. Ultimately it's quite a hypocritical film, extolling the virtues of speaking truth to power while eliminating all references to anti-Semitism in the real-life Dreyfus affair. That sort of moralizing tends to make me yawn in the best of pictures, but it here it was tough to sit through at times. Really sets the template for dozens of Oscar winners to come.

This was quite boring and forgetful.
