I really enjoyed this movie. Good script and directing. I really couldn't figure out the killer this an amazing plot twist at the end.
I did like it, but as with many modern movies the "background" music is MUCH TOO LOUD. It should be called "foreground" music. At times it was difficult to hear the dialog.
Very good thriller even if I didn't watch the original movie ! Many story rebound !
This film lacks everything it needs to make it thrilling or mysterious. The pacing and acting felt off from start to finish. It could have been better if only the actors even tried a little. Rachael Taylor was probably the only good acting here that kept me awake and attentive. Overall, the movie is a big disappointment and waste of a somewhat original idea that could have been much more interesting.
Not great but entertaining and easy to watch. Regular acting.
Definitely the worst of the three versions. All tension is botched and lines dulled by the dialogue’s simple English translation. Also, Americans tend to curse when extremely distressed.
Skip this, and watch one of the other versions.
Full of intrigue, The Loft is a dark and mysterious erotic thriller. When a woman is found dead in a loft rented by five friends for secret sexual liaisons they start to turn on each other as they attempt to discover what happened and who is behind the woman’s murder. Karl Urban, James Marsden and Wentworth Miller lead the cast and deliver pretty solid performances. And the script does a good job at crafting an engaging murder mystery with shocking twists and reveals (though it does use a couple of standard tropes). However, the characters are a little underdeveloped and the final plot twist is a bit rushed. Yet while it has a few weaknesses, The Loft is a suspenseful and provocative film.
A group of five middle-aged guys share the only keys to a private, secret condo expressly for their extramarital affairs. One morning, a bloodied dead woman is found in the bedroom and the arguing and finger-pointing begins. This seemingly has all the ingredients for a great small-scale tension cranker, but ambition gets the best of it, it tries to go large, and the whole thing blows to bits on the launchpad.
It's terribly acted, for one, which is something of a surprise given the healthy careers enjoyed by its stars. Karl Urban and James Marsden are well-seasoned, even if they aren't exactly leading men, and Eric Stonestreet - while miscast in a very adult role - should at least know how to carry himself on the screen. Instead it's amateur hour, where limp first-takes abound, and the finished product is something I would expect from a bit of Cinemax softcore, not a polished big-budget production.
I don't care about, or even remotely like, a single one of the characters, the writing goes around in circles seeking every possible twist, and the ending really doesn't even make any sense. Points for the concept, and for a few scanty bits of eye candy, but otherwise this is a major whiff.
You'll never see it coming. Great script and directing. They probably left a little too much of the wives out... you'll get it if you watch it. But never saw the ending coming. Perfect who done it. An all star cast would've gotten higher ratings, but probably drawn away from the story itself.
Ignore the bad reviews if you like brain twisters mystery like Agatha Christie. Clearly some people want to be spoon fed.
Effective thriller that achieves what it sets out to.
I haven't seen the original movie but this looked like a good idea (despite the bad critics I had read) but it wasn't. At first was good with the mystery and the flashbacks but over the half it just went down, with too many twists and mistakes like what Filip did, I mean, the girl cut herself with both hands cuffed and the police it's gonna think it was suicide?... forgettable movie.
good start, poor in middle part, waste of time to watch the end

A short search here on trakt reveals that the idea for this movie is anything than somewhat original. However, I haven't seen the 2008 (Flemish) or 2010 (Dutch remake) version, nor maybe any other one that may exist under a different name.
But I must say a very intriguing story and one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Mainly because of the great cast and their acting. What'd you expect from Karl Urban (Almost Human, great series, cancelled way too early) or Eric Stonestreet (Modern Family).
The story is nicely told with flashbacks and had me guessing what happened and who is responsible and still was able to surprise me. Although it should have been kind of obvious that it was that person. James Marsden and Wentworth Miller are also very well known faces and fit in here very well.
The great thing about this story is that basically every single person would have a motive.
And as if one plot twist wouldn't be enough it houses another one that bugged me as soon as it happened. The insulin incident.
While it is heavy on dialogue, explaining a lot and not action driven, I'd highly recommend it, if you don't know the story yet and prefer story - although not overly complicated - over action.
Surprisingly it has a rather averaged rating and a bad one on Metascore, where it is rather criticially panned. Some of the criticism is valid, though. Especially regarding the wives, but well.
See for yourself on what side you are on.
