The Prophecy 1995

I saw this in the theater when it released back in 1995. I liked it then and now, nearly 20 years later. It's probably because Christopher Walken is great no matter what he's in and because I've always had a thing for Virginia Madsen.

Well, that settles it. This is a good movie because I really like the casting. Viggo Mortenson plays a menacing Devil. Adam Goldberg is the angel Gabriel's "Igor" sidekick, and even Eric Stoltz is enjoyable. The story and effects are just average and this isn't remotely scary. Even so, I found it to be very entertaining.

Snooze fest that even the cast couldn't help save. This thing drags through just about the entire runtime. Plenty of unexplained scenes, items, and point of the movie make this a movie I'd rather forget exists.

The Prophecy is a dark, supernatural thriller that doesn’t quite live up to its potential. The story follows a celestial battle led by the archangel Gabriel, who comes to Earth in search of a weapon that will turn the tide in his favor. The cast is fairly solid, and includes Christopher Walken, Elias Koteas, Virginia Madsen, Eric Stoltz, and Viggo Mortensen. Christopher Walken has tremendous screen presence and a great dry humor that is both funny and threatening. But the script is weak and fails to clearly outline the celestial conflict, what the weapon is, what it will do, and what the stakes are. The Prophecy has a lot of problems, yet it still has an interesting story and some fun moments.
