Gorgeous lighting, animation, physics, and fur. A great many laugh-out-loud moments. Each character oozes personality.
There is a ton going on in this script, which makes the plot feel incohesive and the transitions feel like whiplash. But I can look past these aspects of the film because it was just so much fun!
Max is off to the country in The Secret Life of Pets 2, a fun animated family film. When Max’s owner and her husband go to visit their uncle’s farm Max meets a sheepdog named Rooster who shows him the ropes of farm life; meanwhile Gidget loses Max’s favorite toy and has to infiltrate an apartment full of cats to get it back. Featuring the voice talents of Patton Oswalt, Harrison Ford, Kevin Hart, Dana Carvey, Ellie Kemper, and Jenny Slate, the film has a solid cast that delivers great performances. And the animation is especially good; with bright, crisp colors. Also, the humor is incredibly funny and does a great job at satirizing the eccentricities of pets and the human-pet relationship. Clever and entertaining, The Secret Life of Pets 2 is a comedy that all ages can enjoy.
First one was better.
Disney quality, this is not.
It was good and did make me laugh at times and the script was on it’s lead but doesn’t deserve a bone like the first.
The first part surprised the animals' point of view, here it is repetitive. The plot is also not surprising.
Since the pandemic started I feel just like Max.
It's a fun movie, I liked it better than the first one. I think all the animals are very charismatic and well developed. I love Daisy the most!
Honestly felt like 3 separate shorts instead of one movie that had a plot and a story it wanted to tell... on top of that it wasn't really funny
It's not as good as the first - the same can be said for most animated sequels - but its a fun and undemanding watch, and will be better enjoyed by people who are far below my age bracket.
Kids liked it. Not as good as the first one but definitely not bad by any means. I lol'd more than a couple times.
Its a cute movie for kids.
Decent but the first has a more focused story. This one jumps all over the place.
I agree with past comments, the first was better overall, but neither less this one brings something fresh. And it's not event the bit of forced comedy that took it down a notch, in my opinion was two story lines that they tried to follow at the same time. Seemed like was inevitable to lose interest and can't fully appreciate both all together. Maybe they chose so because only one of the two wasn't enough for an audience.
A prime example of how two half-baked stories put together don't make a great story.
Lovely visuals, as I’ve come to expect from Illumination Entertainment. Shame about the shallow story.
Left me confused as to why an overly timid dog had a weird passion for being fatherly towards a human kid in an unhealthy-looking way. That dog needs therapy.
I must admit that Illumination already had me sold when the minion appeared during the intro xD
I'm not sure how it compares to the first movie but I found it fun and entertaining. The story didn't feel that great (not quite sure why, maybe it wasn't focused or meaningful enough?) but it was still good and had some nice moments. E.g. Cotton (the little sheep - what a fitting name) was really funny :D
I enjoyed the voices (e.g. Kevin Hart, Patton Oswalt, and Tiffany Haddish), the music (e.g. "New York" at the beginning), the animations (as always so great and funny!), and the creativity that went into this (the idea alone to make a movie about pets is great).
Slightly better than the first one, it's still nowhere close to being as good as portrayed in the previews/trailers.
My suggestion - just watch the trailer and move on. The best parts are there.
4.5/10
Three new adventures united for this group of friendly and daring pets from a New York building.
It's not a bad movie but like.. the bad guy has a big nose, is named Serguei and has a russian/east european accent... I wish we would see less of that. Same for the message about anxiety that is borderline anti-therapy.
First was so much better. What feels like a side story or what should have been a side story with Kevin hearts Bunny was actually the funniest part.
But the Max and family the entire story arch was pretty weak.
Was very good, the pets was very cute
In my opinion it’s just a little bit better than the first one. But only because of the three separate stories.
For kids movies, the hope is that it is something the whole family can enjoy, kids and adults. This movie wasn't quite there. There were some funny parts but overall it was just okay.
IMO kind of a split decision, as I actually liked this one SLIGHTLY more than the first one, but, because they were trying to do THREE separate but related stories, each focusing on what they felt were the "most popular" characters from the original film, the segues don't always make sense or transition smoothly, making it feel like the narrative is jumping all over, rather than just continuing on in that particular story.
All the characters from the first movie are back, but, the main focus is on Max, Snowball, and Gidget, with the addition of Daisy, as a companion for Snowball in his part of the story, Rooster (voiced by Harrison Ford) in Max's story-line, and Gidget as she hangs out with Chloe, to learn "the way of the cat", when she has to infiltrate the apartment of a "cat lady" with a hoard of not so fluffy felines.
Max, who has eventually learned to love the new baby, and has become protective to the point of neurosis, unfortunately has also developed a rather itchy nervous tic, caused by his fear of something happening to the little rug rat. Once his humans decide to take a trip to the country to see a relative, he asks Chloe to look after his favorite toy while he is gone. AS she has a raging, but unrequited crush on him, it would be her honor, but, as chance (and the script) would have it, the toy (which she imagines is their love child) ends up in the abode of the cat lady and her hoard, thus the need to learn to act like a cat, to get the toy back.
The third story line involves Snowball, in his continuing super hero fever dream, being recruited by newcomer Daisy to save a young tiger she saw while on a plane, from the EVIL cruel circus owner. I realize that these days, it is considered "woke" to think of the circus, zoos and aquariums as BAD, but, here they venture into the ridiculous, as the owner is portrayed as Russian, wearing a black, fur trimmed Wizard of Oz. wicked witch costume, complete with pointy hat, along with a whip, which he uses to kowtow the Cub into doing a dangerous trick. They are successful in freeing the cub, but then, have to find somewhere to hide him from the bad, bad circus. Hilarity ensues.
Meanwhile, out on the farm, Max and Duke meet Rooster, the coolest dog on the planet, as he is a combination of the best parts of The Fonz and Indiana Jones, but he has no time for fools, or a neurotic city dog wearing the cone of shame. Yet, he sees that Max has some potential, if he could only find his inner canine. Adventure and hilarity ensues.
Back at the loft, young Padawan Gidget has learned the ways of the force, er, cat, form Obi wan Chloe, and goes on her mission to rescue Max's toy. Drama and hilarity ensues.
The evil circus owner has sent his guard wolves to track down the purloined Tiger, and in the process he also procures Daisy, whom he plans to shoot out of a cannon. Now, as all the players are back together, the dramatic rescue can begin. Carnage, chaos, and chicanery ensues, as well as the requisite happy ending(s).
Also, keep an eye out for the complete rehabilitation and subjugation of Kevin Hart, as his characters owner, dresses Snowball in drag, and, he looks in the mirror, and after a dramatic, pregnant pause, declares it to be....... AMAZING! I guess all is finally forgiven.
Just not fun. Has only one decent character: Rooster.
Not bad.Had some hilarious laughing out moments
Imagine Toy Story were a sitcom replacing toys with domesticated animals and it lasted 3 times too long.
The Secret Life of Animals 2 (The Secret Life of Animals 2B or Pets - The Secret Life of Animals 2BRA) is an American 3D comedy film produced by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment. Directed by Chris Renaud and Joe Murray and written by Brian Lynch and Alex Kirwan. With the voices of Patton Oswalt, Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Albert Brooks, Hannibal Buress, Bobby Moynihan, Lake Bell and Ellie Kemper. The book will be released on June 7, 2019. Pets - The Secret Life of Bugs 2 for me was the best movie of the first! I brought a lot of adventures, naughty, writers, very well with this movie. The personal side of the dog Max and his brother Duke was the main middle of the family and something unexpected happened and with the passage of time was giving itself a taste and why my note of the film is 3.5 (good) of 5.0.
More of the same from the first one. Pretty generic and mostly boring. I did like Harrison Ford's character.

A very cute movie. Well animated and funny story. Predictable as it gets but at least tries to teach kids something. Enjoyed it and had a few laughs.
