There is a scene where (this is not a spoiler really) someone shots a shut gun and the kick of the gun looks nice. That is the only thing worth of this movie. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS
Awful trash, do not watch.
The only thing that carries over from the original is the masks. Don't worry, though. No originality leaked in. Standard slasher and not too scary. Had to check if it was PG13 or R after the movie.
Can’t remember much about the first movie but this was certainly memorable and gripped me throughout. An edge of your seat horror thriller with jump scares, together with a fantastic 80’s soundtrack feat. Kim Wilde, Mental As Anything and Bonnie Tyler gives this an edge over other horrors, and also makes this worth watching again. “Hey you there with the sad face, come up to my place and live it up”. You will enjoy it.
Somebody, anybody, please!!!! Explain to me the point of this sequel...................... terrible. Should have just left it alone.
The strangers do not so very nice things to reasonably nice people, but despite their dastardly deeds, they do have a good taste in music. So, hey... they can't be all bad, right? The film does fall prey to the usual horror cliches, but it's better than the director's last effort, the execrable 47 Meters Down. Still, its the soundtrack you will be buying rather than the DVD of the movie itself, as while it's a passable effort, you won't be a stranger to what goes on in the film.
For the record I was a big fan of The Strangers and when I heard a sequel was in the works, I was brimming with anticipation. Unfortunately Prey At Night would end up being one of the biggest disappointments I've ever watched. It lacked any sense of the suspense that made the first one so enjoyable and while there is a place for gory straightforward horror, this one didn't "push the envelope" at all. In fact the movie ends up recycling the cookie cutter tropes in short fashion. The Strangers set an amazing foundation but the sequel was built on a sink hole...a total waste, a complete collapse...
While not a dent on the first entry, The Strangers: Prey at Night still evokes some of the same thrills that made it's predecessor so gripping and memorable. Although less impactful, there is still fun to be had with this stylish slasher, for casual horror and franchise fans alike.
It's not really bad bad as the comments say. There were fine moments, some cool jump scares, but sadly filled with extremely dumb plots. However, they have to exist so the entire movie could happen, right? I felt over annoyed by that repetitive thing at the end and so was the entire cinema. Could've been much better.
I did never understand the love some people had for the first one... I doubt l'll ever have to question this for the sequel.
Terrible! Subpar wanna be slasher trash that even tries to be trendy with some neon lights, synthwave and ironic music. The home invasion aspect is pretty much non-existent and they imstead grace us with some classic "who would be so stupid" moments.
Awesome movie. Don't waste your time reading comments:rage:
Like the first film, but stripped of all the built up creepy tension; the intensity wasn’t gradually cranked up, it was just on a constant level for most of the film.
A cheap and nonsensical ending thrown in to boot.
The Strangers: Prey at Night is a sequel to the 2008 horror movie The Strangers, in which a family is stalked by three masked assailants. The sequel takes place in a trailer park, with the family trying to survive against the same attackers. However, the sequel is not as good as the original due to a reliance on cliches and weak characters. The pacing is slow, and the plot is predictable. The villains are the best part of the movie, but the movie is bogged down by the bad decisions made by the characters. The soundtrack is good, and the visuals are well done. The final scene is unbelievable and the ending is unsatisfying. Overall, it is not a terrible movie, but it is not as good as the original.
I didn't see the first one, but I liked this. Even though the characters made a lot of avoidable mistakes that frustrated me, the suspense was good.
It is scary at some moments, and the tension is good. The father just has a very effeminate voice (laughs). It reminds me of another movie called "The Strangers" too, starring Liv Tyler. The story is too typical, but it does scare, so that's why it's not too bad. Also some unrealistic scenes, especially the final ones. And I see at the end a little bit of copy of "When a Stranger Calls", a laughable cliché movie from the 2000s. They could have developed more about why the assassins are that way, instead of wanting the siblings to survive when they were way wounded, with stabbings and all.
i was able to finish it, so it's watchable. the acting is decent, and there are some great moments of realism (the amount of recoil shown when the daughter uses a shotgun most of all, honestly refreshing in a horror film) and up until the ending happened this could've been a 6/10. watchable up until the final scene, so just bail at the fade in and you'll probably be able to tolerate it.
I've got more questions than critiques.
It's been 10 years since the first movie came out and this is what we got?
There's been so many slasher movies, what makes this different?
Why even make a sequel when your ideas are dry?
Why dose it have an 80's-like style to it? None of it adds anything to the overall quality of the film. It's not even set in the 80's, by the way. For style purpose I guess.
Why is the only good scene in the whole movie takes place at a swimming pool?
And finally..."Oh My God There's a Bang at the Door"
Ok, I'm aware that slasher films do not usually have a good story because it is not really the primary thing, but creative murders and an interesting villain are sought. But here we have none of it! The movie is without a point, acting is poor, we have no reason to love the characters in the story and cheer for them because we don't know anything about them (except for one character but this is also irrelevant to the movie). The villains are uninteresting - I mean, they have cool masks ... but they barely speak and they move and act like some robots. The first movie was not very interesting either, but in my opinion it had an interesting ending. This movie has a generic ending with one mysterious moment in the last scene. I do not recommend this movie to even fans of the slasher genre. 4 out of 10 just for great music and for quite a few jump scares.
Why are you doing this?
Why not?
This is a shame. I'm a big fan of the first film's creativeness and said director's talent to create some truly terrifying scenarios. Even though it bares huge flaws, it stands out to me as one of the best horror movies of the past few years. Said that, I was cautious but optimistic about The Strangers: Prey At Night, I love the horror genre, even the bullshit that's shat out every year. It's just a genre that's hard for me to get tired of. Before I rip into what really butchered this movie for me, I salute Johannes Roberts for trying his hardest to replicate the style of the first film, mainly in the first half. You got more family complications, they arrive at this secluded place, then the strangers want to come out and play. I was anxiously awaiting to witness what Roberts would conjure up this round to top some of the brilliant set-pieces of the first film... and, there are some cool moments here, like the man in the mask ramming a car into a house, a fight-out in a swimming pool, and a chase through a playground. There's memorable and pretty magical stuff here, not denying it. A lot of it is decently executed, good sound mixing, some adequate music choices, and two decent kills. Yeah, I'm spoilers now, so if you're really curious about seeing it, only see if you're a fan. My biggest setback arises in the last act. They show the killers' faces and then the two siblings kill all three off... supposedly one lives, cliffhanger nonsense. My issue is doing this goes against everything, I thought, the first installment was trying to establish. By not showing the killers at the end, it left them up to be anonymous, they could be anyone with masks, and that's what made it scary to me. By giving the killers an identity beyond their generic (yet recognizable) faces, it takes away the fear factor... a lot. When the reveal scene happened at the end of Prey At Night, I wasn't really feeling anything I expect Roberts wanted me to. I was just, kind of let-down. The finale is just an exact copy of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, so that was off-putting by that point. I wasn't invested in the tension, I was still hung-over from the reveal that just happened, so I couldn't help noticed the similarity in the final chase. I think it almost harms the original movie, as a movie on it's own credentials, it's just not all anything impressive, excluding the couple of stand-out scenes. I didn't feel any of the same tension the first film carried, so that sets it down a lot, on-top of the flaws it contracts, from the first.
The first Strangers movie I absolutely loved. This doesn't quite live up to it, but it's also not the dumpster fire I expected in a sequel to a movie that didn't need one. If you've seen the first film, it's hard to have the same reaction to the weirdness of the antagonists since it's an expectation. It's a decent thriller, but really is a lesser knockoff of the original. Still, it's much better than a lot of the dreck in the horror/thriller genre that's out there.
this movie was horrible. kinda like purge night but with 4 ppl with no motive or how the story started, and they all get killed by a little girl!!! how obvious!! and every little thing was expected tbh!!
Ahhhh! God damn yes!
This kind of cinematic horror experience is what i look forward to movies like this in this genre, it makes you root for the protagonist and it successfully delivers a satisfying feel at the end!
I was expecting a lot more out of this, with the way horror fans are talking about it. It actually feels a bit like a step back from the first... It doubles down on the action, and tension at parts, but ends up getting way too hokey by the end, and just follows the typical, played out tropes of the genre. Sure it's more stylish and looks cool, but it just feels like a cheap made-by-committee version of the first film...
Strangers 3 stars a black family and is eleven minutes long because they shoot their asses when they show up...the End... Credits role ppphhhffrrrrttt
I Actually Enjoyed This Film if its comparing to the first one no comparison.. the ending was Cool I guess I liked how everything played out I would recommend it for anybody who wants to watch it Above Average Movie At Best
Hands up if you waiting 10 long years for a sequel to the original 'strangers'
eagerly raises hand like a young school kid who know's the answer to the question the teacher just asked
If like me, you are eager..... don't be, to say I was sorely disappointed is probably the understatement of the year. The sequel carries none of the original sense of dread, the uncomfortable atmosphere that just seeped through the entire movie of the first one. You aren't on the edge of the seat... well maybe, but if it is then it will probably be you eagerly waiting on the edge of your seat to get the hell out of the theater.
I'm probably being very critical here, but I loved the first movie so had such high hopes, the characters in this just aren't fleshed out so you feel no kind of emotional attachment to any of the family members. The plot is nonsensical and just outright dumb at times, a few minor jump scares, but nothing that you don't see in any other other slasher movie of the shelf. Tbh in the end it actually gets so silly it's almost entertaining in a way, but the director seemingly had no intention of keeping true to the original.
Only positive I can say is the soundtrack, which was actually okay, I bet my life you'll have 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' in your head all day after watching this!
But as I say, poor movie I can only imagine die hard slasher fans liking this one.
I can't give my honest opinion on the movie because all the links are in another language & I did not want to watch a movie that is not in English

Despite some moments of light suspense, this sequel fails to elicit even a modicum of the discomfort I felt while watching The Strangers. Frankly, there is so much WTF here that I really want to know what 'true events' this film is based on. Still, generous reviewer that I am, I was going to overlook all of the WTF that chokes the life from the film and mark it a 5, but then the ridiculous ending happened and forced me to deduct another point.
