The Third Murder 2017

A man on trial for murder continues to change his version of events, perhaps to conceal some kind of mystery?? The ending, while deceptively anticlimactic, serves as a fitting conclusion for a legal drama that is fully committed to its characters. Occasionally, the acting veers into the melodramatic tendencies often seen in Japanese entertainment. Nevertheless, the overall quality of the writing and performances is definitely above the standards of its genre, sometimes even pointing out at the flaws of the Japanese judicial system.

Although the film kept me significantly hooked throughout the viewing, I must confess that it hasn't lingered in my thoughts afterwards, feeling rather disposable on the long run.

I prefer more film in my films. The Third Murder is a case of style over substance, as most of the film is simple dialogue that, to be honest, I found next to impossible to stay awake through. If only I could've slept through the unsatisfying ending, as well.
