A pretty harrowing yet interesting take on toxic masculinity and its perpetual cycle of abuse (that is portrayed quite realistically here, probably the most realistic element of the whole movie). The film is shot really well and the sound design is great. Some of the characters aren't exactly dumb but extremely naive. The ending is fairly satisfying, if a bit outlandish. Still, if you like a good comeuppance in your revenge flicks then give 'The Woman' a try, although don't expect a relatively happy ending.
After watching I found out this is part of a loose trilogy, the first is called 'Offspring' from 2009 and the last is 'Darlin'' from 2019. Keen to watch these to further explain wtf is going on with the extremely vague backstory here.
feels like an indie movie, but with horror and disturbing stuff. not bad but not really great too, was thrilled watching it, but dont think ill watch it again.
weird.. just weird
I kept watching in the hope that it would get interesting. It's so slow and ridiculous until the end - then it's just completely ridiculous. The use of music and sound was sometimes annoying.
All the character's development ideas from the a family dysfunction to the woman were handled in cliché or non inventive ways. There was an overall lack of development and many one dimensional charcaters. There was no building tension to reveal plots but rather events that revealed something, and these were a long time apart. The characters actions in this movie are really stupid at times and with no explanation. It felt like an angry teen smoking dope wrote it.
I thought Chris got off way too easy.
really weird movie with bad acting
Who is the animal and who the normal, too long perhaps, and the end accelerates much
Oh well... there I watched it anyways. I figured I was not going to like it that much but given the drama surrounding the Sundance screening it isn't really something noteworthy. The pacing is bad, there are seemingly random song choices and often times bad cinematography and editing (esp. towards the end where they had to do something else than just some talking heads...) The story is predictable and given how the characters behave not really plausible as a setup that could happen within the story. Misogynistis might have something here but it's shallow besides the shock value.
