This was disappointing. With an excellent cast and a decent premise, this should have been an effective blend of comedy and superhero action. Sadly, the end result is average at best. This can be blamed on the very weak script that did nothing to support the talent involved. Sad.
Usual poor writing, acted by mediocre cast and predictable plot.
Was it the best movie I’ve seen in the world? No. Best movie of an awful year of lockdowns and generally poor productions? Still no.
But does it deserve a 3.5 star rating on IMDb? Hell no!
I love Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy but never seen them act together and never realised they were actual life long friends! Jason Bateman was typically amusing too.
I enjoyed this movie for what it was. It was cheesy, lighthearted and generally a bit of fun.
I almost feel generous giving it a 3... listen I have no qualms with the story, its supposed to be cheesy, goofy. Its nothing unique and I can honestly sit and enjoy these type of movies and have a good laugh.
Mellisa carries the film but I'm sorry I found Octavias acting in this poor. She was so robotic and awkward and had no life in her whatsoever (my opinion of course) and as I say while Mellisa was the only redeeming factor I feel like even all of her characters are one dimensional and she now just plays the same roles with different tweaks. I do still find her funny but I hope she can branch out into different roles in the future.
I trudged along until the end but neither me or my wife was impressed and just found it poor with only a few laughs here and there (I think a few were forced as we were trying to find SOME humour and not feel like we'd wasted an evening)
The script was truly atrocious. I couldn't stop thinking about how bad it was while I was watching.
Really quite boring and surprisingly just so not funny.
I enjoyed this movie. No it’s not a blockbuster Marvel movie but it had a few laughs and some action and good actors that pulled it off in the end. I hope to see a sequel.
Honestly people love to complain! This movie is FUN! It’s not an Oscar winner or anything like that but you go into it knowing what to except. This was a good time movie!
This was a fun movie. I love Melissa McCarthy. She’s hilarious as always in this one. The best part is that it was a good comedy but the story also interesting.
It's definitely not the best superhero movie but it definitely deserve better than the ratings it got.
The trailer, the cast, superhero stuff... All was there! And then this. The script not just bad, it was annoying. How many sad movies started with "don't touch anything" and then, like never in life, someone touches not just something but everything. Went downhill from there and I was hoping a telemarketer would interrupt me. Would have signed up for anything... I pretended they called and stopped the movie.
It's so funny I forgot to laugh.
This could have been so good! Great talent! Great concept! But why did they have to settle for crass and crude? It just stunts any character development and limits the audience. I give this film a 5 (disappointing) out of 10 [Superhero Comedy]
I honestly don't know what this is supposed to be but let me tell you, it ain't comedy.
Great cast, but poor script.
Thought this would be a great movie because of the cast, but unfortunately it was let down massively by the writing, there was a bit of excitement at the beginning, but that quickly disappeared.
The unfunniest comedy I’ve ever watched :(
Not for everyone as I can tell from the ratings but for me this was a laugh out loud type of movie. Melissa McCarthy carried this movie on her back and she delivered all the fun. I had quite a few good laughs but I know that the humor in this movie might not be everyone's cup of tea. Maybe set your expectations a little lower and just enjoy this bizarre fun ride.
This was such a weird experience, I'm not even sure what to categorise it as. Family fun? No, there's definitely some scenes that don't fit. Superhero action flick? Nah, there isn't enough action for that. Superhero parody? I think that might be the intention, but I really can't be sure, there's not enough comedy in it for that.
I'm a simple person: I saw Octavia Spencer and Melissa McCarthy, I knew I had to watch. And then I don't know if I had as much fun as I thought I would, which is unfortunate and left me feeling just like the movie itself was: awkward and frustrated. The two main characters, in quite sharp contrast to the movie poster, look just tired mostly throughout the movie, almost to the point of "I really wish I was anywhere else". Which is a crying shame, because everyone knows they can do much better, but somehow they don't really get the chance here. For quick gags and slapstick humour, too many scenes are stretched a lot thinner than they should be - and several of those are even put on repeat. For any sort of dynamic between the two, there isn't enough interaction to let it bloom - and when there is, it's usually one of them having verbal diarrhea, with the other either trying to deflect some curse words or just meekly protesting. It doesn't help that one of them gets some generic super strength (never really allowed to have fun with that either), while the other can just - become invisible, which is really redundant, considering she keeps hiding behind every imaginable cover anyway. I could go on, but you get the point.
There isn't much follow through to so many elements, either, leaving a trail of missed opportunities throughout the entire movie. There's an overly long scene about getting the bully of the school in a dumpster - and then that character's never seen again later, never shows up to get any sort of revenge. There are overly long scenes about how difficult it is for the two women to get into the sleek Lambo - and then it's never an issue anyway, it never makes them arrive late or actually get stuck or anything. Making a point several times about how they can't wash the suits so they start to smell - and only a barely-there, sort of "honorable" mention towards the end where someone actually notices that; and besides, why not just, you know, make more of them, not that that's ever brought up as an option. A bighuge sentimental fuss about granny being in danger, only to watch as nothing ever happens to her. The plot twist (but not really) traitor is discovered and promptly knocked out - and that's about the last we see of her. The guy always botching up the knock-knock jokes? What even is the point of his presence?
As for the others... There's literally no character to The King, he's as generic as they come, I could've sworn he was copy-pasted from a certain series. Crab is just random as all hells, and his arms looked even cheaper than the hero suits (and the randomness of his romance was only second to Tracey's out-of-nowhere hero transformation). And Laser's so one-dimensional, I started to wonder if she even has a single dimension to her. Another pile of unfortunate, because we know full well these two can do a lot better as well.
And... look. I get it: not every character in every movie has to be complex and well written. Not every script has to be well written, either. But if you're trying to aim for comedy, the gags and jokes have to hit and come a lot more frequently, instead of being allowed to sit down and the movie to just trickle between them. If you're aiming for parody, you have to go over the top at least a few times, instead of... idk, never, like this movie does.
I'm frustrated, because I wanted to like this movie, if for nothing else than the two leads, but also for the premise of being a sort of superhero parody. I wanted to conclude that it would be understandable if superhero fans got upset about this movie and hated it, because it pokes fun at all the tropes in all the right ways. I really wanted to... but I can't, because it keeps missing one mark after another, while also dragging on unnecessarily long. It can't even keep its rather on-the-nose nods to PC/SJW issues in check, with how certain things turn out, needlessly adding more to an already long list of frustrations.
It's a really unfortunate one that could have been a lot more than it ended up being.
The razzie for 2021 goes to...
We are just into 2021.
I would be shocked if this movie doesn’t win a couple of them
Very mediocre. Interesting cast but fell short on the promise.
Sadly, this is yet another boring and unfunny offering from the McCarthy/Falcone stable.
OK - so this will definitely never win an Oscar and may even mostly be a waste of digital space, and yet, it's goofy, silly, cute, and funny enough for a few giggles.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
"Crap doodles!"
I'm shocked to find that this kind of humor – silly, sarcastic, absurd – isn't more well received by the majority. I was literally lol-ing throughout the entirety. I would have probably enjoyed this film a little sooner had it not been for the low ratings and the image Netflix decided to advertise it with; Melissa McCarthy's character getting stabbed in the face with needles. I'm not one to hate on Netflix, but occasionally their thumbnail choices are definitely not ideal.
I think this movie might be my cue to queue up much more McCarthy media whilst ignoring the numbers. Notably ones involving her hubby, Ben Falcone, because it's quickly becoming clear that their humor is not everyone's "cup of tea," but it's absolutely mine!
It had its moments, but overall was a pretty disappointing and cringey take on a tired comedy genre.
Honestly It got worse as it went on. They missed an opportunity to make an actual superhero movie instead of a 2 hour long SNL sketch. The 3 stars are for Jason Bateman and the bodyguards, who actually had the funnier lines and scenes.
idk i was quite drunk while watching this and kept losing interest, maybe if i rewatch it i'll like it more lol
Turning into the superhero was fun but once completed the movie got boring and lost my attention
Not as funny as I thought it'd be.... Didn't really make up for it on the action / superhero part. Altogether was so so.
I Enjoyed it. It was fun.
Two characters of weight and that together formed a great connection but the story is weak, not being able to sustain itself throughout the film, discouraging the viewer to continue the production.
i liked it, it was the right kind of silly! don't judge me lol
I could not believe that the movie was horrible, until I saw it myself. It did not even make me smile once

THE GOOD:
Melissa McCarthy is her usual funny and hyperactive self, playing this part just the same as she does every part. It’s difficult not to like her, even if she feels a bit too much at times.
Octavia Spencer is never bad in anything and she makes for a fun duo together with McCarthy. Those two are the reason this film remains somewhat watchable.
The script is a bold and almost parodic take on classic comic book tropes, from mutants to super serums, making the plot predictable but fun.
THE BAD:
While the constant pop culture references are fun, way too many jokes have been built around them for McCarthy to fool around with, thus taking away focus from the plot.
The comedy revolves around humour typical to most McCarthy-led movies, rather than trying to do something fresh and interesting with the superhero comedy genre, which is a pity.
There’s a distinct lack of memorable or even intriguing villains, despite them being used as excuses for fun appearances from the likes of Jason Bateman and Pom Klementieff. Bobby Cannavale as The King is one of the least interesting main baddies I’ve ever seen.
There’s no real build-up of tension or excitement here, as the movie wants to be some kind of a superhero movie, but remains more of a weak comedy with superhero elements. You keep waiting for something significant to happen, and since the comical parts are rarely funny, you’ll find yourself bored and disappointed.
The political subplot is so worn-out that it doesn’t bring anything extra to the story.
The rare action scenes are the weakest parts of the film, lacking excitement and fun.
Yup, we even get the “with great power comes great responsibility” lesson from so many superhero stories, pretty crudely inserted within the story.
THE UGLY:
My prediction for the future: in 2025, the Netflix Superhero Cinematic Universe will reach the end of Chapter One, with their much-anticipated team-up film!
THE VERDICT:
In an attempt to jump on the ongoing superhero film craze, Netflix offers a subpar comedy with superhero elements and fails to bring anything new to the genre.
36% = :heavy_minus_sign: = UGLY
Waste of time. Not even funny.
Boring and not funny, don't waste your time.
Poor plot. Expected more. So little effort.
All right movie, had some cute moments, overall a bit too much unconvincing/bad acting (liked Lydia's but Em was just ... meh) and no big surprises in general.
I guess you get what you're asking for with this.
They could probably have done a better job in a lot of regards. But it was okay enough. Had to watch in 4 parts though as I kept getting bored
i thought The Crab and Laser were the best part. everything else fell flat.
They could be heroes but, well, they prefer just be joking around and eating shrimp with a guy that launders money near a lake and pretending to be stopping the Homecoming initiative but a worst job than Julia Roberts
Melissa is wonderful. Wasted in this movie.
Not comedy, not.. Nothing. Stupid movie.
Not Oscar material obv but entertaining in a way. McCarthy always make me laugh
Didn't laugh once. It's also a shame what Gyp Rosetti has been reduced to.
I expected to hate it, but it was semi-entertaining.
What a drag.....
This is not worth the watch
What is this?
Don't watch, this is bad movie, bad script, bad acting.
As usual, Melissa McCarthy was generally annoying and a detriment to the show. Octavia Spencer was marginal, also with an annoying character.
The premise of the story was good. I liked the twist that those that were inclined to be bad got powers and they were running rampant throughout the world, though I had to wonder why they don't run the world after a few years. Not every criminal is stupid. So there is that gaping flaw in the premise...
It wasn’t bad. Good time pass. Stupid but will give you few good laughs. It’s not as horrible as all the reviews make it out to be. Don’t expect a work of art. It’s basically mindless entertainment.
old awkward fat ass playing superheroes
A 6 year old may find this funny.
I've not seen this movie but without seeing this pops in to my head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1KTybdzpvE
Fun film for an entertaining Saturday night watch. Solid lines without being over the top for the sake of comedy value. Loved the Bateman x Mccarthy romance
Goofy slapstick fun. I loved it.
Thunder Force is like the elastic in a used thong: stretched thin for how little substance there is.
This movie should spend more time on Melissa Mccarthy's humor and less time on a script written in crayon.
There were parts to this that were really good. Sadly, there were too many parts that were just plain dumb (and not in a good way). Overall, not a complete waste of time. Just not nearly as funny as I hoped it would be.
The only good thing is the credit's song...Thunder Force!!! Thunder Force!!! :love_you_gesture:
Well it wasn’t great, it’s plot was cheesy along with some of it’s characters but not boring because it’s sense of humour was average and it was watchable.

I had better expectations for this film, hoping it’s impressive cast would wow me, but that wasn’t the case here. It’s plain boring but not a completely bad film. If only the characters had more development and more one liners to deliver I’d be giving this a higher score.
