That was cuuuuute and totally lived up to the book! Also aaaah that author cameo <3
PLEASE, GIMME MORE TWO MOVIES!!!!! It reminds me of the best of what spoke to me in the best of John Hughes's movies, i'm literally screaming... i'm in love!
covinsky are my parents fr
This movie has this certain vibe that makes you want to fall in love. I loved it so much, everything was great.
This teen rom com is just what you expect, but an above average version. It's nothing amazing, yet I enjoyed it and I wouldn't mind watching it again. The film is really carried by the charm of its leads. I probably wouldn't wanna rewatch the sequels though. I'd recommend it to teen girls and anyone who enjoys a classic YA romance.
Premise - 13/20 - Tuning in for the awkwardness of love letters being sent out unintentionally.
Cast/characters - 15/20 - After seeing Lana Condor in Moonshot and then as the lead Lara Jean in this, I am becoming a fan. John Corbett and Anna Cathcart as Lara Jean's dad and little sister were also enjoyable. The guys were fairly vanilla, which is a bummer for a teen rom-com.
Story - 14/20 - I liked it, but it was extremely predictable.
Dialogue - 13/20 - The serious conversations were decent, and the family was fun to watch, but most other conversations were a bit silly.
World-building - 13/20 - Home, school, whatever. The ski lodge and the hot tub scene was a good setting.
68/100 - 3.5/5 stars - I enjoyed some of the actors, and the story was cute. I'd watch it again and I'll watch the sequels, but I'm not going to plant my flag on them.
I think this movie deserves the hype. Not a big Noah Centineo fan, but I LOVE Lana Condor. She’s so beautiful. Not to mention, all of the fits in this movie were 10/10. I was real invested in this story. Such a perfect warm, fuzzy movie to watch. Yes, its cheesy, but like idc.
Honestly I should have known what I was getting into with this movie but I still held out hope that I would absolutely love it. To be truthful the storyline made me uncomfortable and that's where my issues began.
The relationship with Peter was something that bugged me throughout this entire film, the whole relationship started out on the premise that it would be a fake relationship - I mean Lara Jean established a no kissing rule right of the bat - but yet she got so pissy everytime Peter even spoke to another woman. I just didn't get it.
On another note, I think the fact that Lara Jean liked Josh made me even more uncomfortable - that's here sisters ex! That is an absolute no to in my book.
I have not read the books that this film is based off so I can't comment on how well it adapted from the source material but if we're just looking at it as a stand alone film it fails to hit the mark and become another cringey YA romance without any substance. Kind of enjoyable, but nothing to it.
Completely predictable yet enjoyable.
Soft teenager romcom without much in it but it leaves you with a good feeling.
Didn't feel like a waste of time.
Don't expect too much. Good thing to put on on a hungover Sunday.
It was a cute movie.
I have to admit that this film snuck up on me a bit. I decide to give it a chance based on the glowing rotten tomatoes ranking (and the fact that I have the soul of a 16 year old girl when it comes to coming-of-age movies. The film began innocently enough - a girl tries to navigate the difficulties of dating as a teen. I saw the familiar trappings - awkward teen, dialog that has never happened in any high school ever, kids dressing like nobody has ever dressed in high school... you get the drift.
Anyway, I was beginning to suspect that this film might have been another case of a lot of people saying that a movie was just "ok" and thus a good RT score. And then something happened.... the film got good. I don't know exactly when it happened but I suspect it wasn't long after the deal was made. All of the sudden the dialog became intelligent (it no longer felt like a "coming-of-age" film and I was focused on the developing story. Don't get me wrong - the two leads are what really make this movie hum. I didn't expect to like this film as much as I did but I really enjoyed it. Side note - I also love both the direct mentions of 80's films (16 Candles) as well as the indirect mentions (Heathers, others). This film fit nicely into the upper-end of this genre.

it was a good way to pass the day & it felt original , different!
A very stereotypical teen movie. Nothing was a surprise you knew from beginning to the end every turn and work. Nevertheless very cute and very entertaining.
Please make a second moive I love it so much:heart::heart::heart::heart::heart::heart:
Obviously it's not original, we have seen those types of movies, which have mostly the same cliches and situations, lots of times. We can consider it as a movie to watch when you want to have fun or relax and, however, it's still worth a watch, also if, as it is for me, it's not your type of movie.
This was actually very cute and lovable !
I wasn't expecting a masterpiece but at least I had a good time and it was very cute, it does use the same old cliches sometimes and it was very predictable from the beginning but the execution and the chemistry between the leads made up for it.
I'm actually excited for the sequel
Unfortunately couldn't even finish the whole movie. Was bored out of my mind so fast and there's so many weird jumps in the story. It's either bad casting and acting or the script is just lifeless…
God, I had the exact same moment with the condoms with my parents.
Those teenage problems growing up to the scale as if they were the end of the world...
I have loved this film. It's so cute. It's like a classic adolescent story but lovely.
AND NOAH IS AMAZING
this was cute!! even if it played with the same old stereotypes, Lara Jean and Peter were really sweet.
8/10
Watched with Kel and T. This was really fun, I really liked it. The premise was hilarious, I really enjoyed the relationship with her sisters and dad. Slightly derivative with the whole "fake dating" to make another jealous story, but it was done really well.
I felt really bad for the neighbor kid, but I think his story was handled really smart.
T says there's a series of books following the main character. Not sure exactly how they'd extend this in a way that doesn't undermine the relationship in this movie... Then again, it's not like she should only have one boyfriend in her life... It could be interesting to see how she dealt with another guy trying to win her over.
This is a really good story for a young adult audience. It has an interesting premise and an innocence that is rather rare in this sex drenched culture and I appreciated some of the shrewd cultural statements along the way. This movie is based on the YA book (by the same title) from the "Lara Jean Covey" series by author Jenny Han (who has a cameo in the scene at the dance). I hope they develop more of the series for the screen. Lana Condor, who plays LJ, is a young talent to watch. Despite an odd disconnect in the casting of the sisters (it was rather hard to overlook that it was highly improbable that they had the same Korean mother) I loved the bond that was written for the sisters and their dad. I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [Young Adult Romance]
It was such a good casting. The chemistry was on point, nothing forced. It is a typical-teen-goofy-romance type of movie, but actually a good one. It's not boring, it's easy to watch. If you want to have fun, and enjoy some sweet teen drama, it's a movie for you.
Painfully predictable and filled with so many cliches but still worth a watch.
The rom-com ain't dead. Lovable actors for a cheesy, feel-good movie.
Casting issues aside, this was super cute and so, so, so totally did justice to the book. Peter K and Lara Jean were both portrayed perfectly and made me fall in love with their story all over again. GAH. I'm so glad this movie was made <333
This film wasn't for me unfortunately. I thought it had a could concept, but it seemed really slow....
A wonderful romance movie - great scenario and fantastic direction. 100% recommended for teenagers!
It's like 4 out of 5 romance movie.
The actress is a hot Asian though and I like the older sister. Anyways, not that I will watch this again but I hope the actress Lana Condor will have more movies to come so that I can say that see does not only have a good look but have a good acting skill. Peace out.
It's fine. Not the best rom com but still a decent watch if you like the genre. It seems like Netflix is the place to be for rom coms with this and Set It Up, which I liked more than this.
A really cute & easy to watch film!
They're so cute and I love them??? and man...I wish there was a girl that wrote me secret love letters
So, I've never actually read the book, though it has been on my to-read list for quite a while now (like, more than two years), but I really wanna read it now!
This movie was soooo cute! (and, like, a thousand times better than the kissing booth. Talk about cringe factor with that one) The actors were all wonderful, and there was some real chemistry there. And even though I'm probably too old to be in the target demographic, I'd totally watch this movie again, cause you're never too old for love.
i was genuinely surprised how cute and sweet this movie was! the only little bit of a downside, for me personally, was that the acting was a bit amateur at some of the more emotional moments.
lana condor is quite a pleasant surprise. she's definitely a unique actress and one i can't wait to see in other projects.
one of the better netflix movies. but still just ok. and of course it feels again like an Apple commercial.
Nice and fun. I have never read the book but it's a feel good movie.
Bleh. Too sappy for my liking. Would please its target audience though.
The editing was pretty bad, so most of it was really akward.
Damn, that was a really nice field.
I am soooooo in love with this movie! So dreamy and romantic!! And blah blah blah because I lied! And that's because I am not the target demographic so am unsure why I even watched it. Well, the reviews were good, I was promised something like a John Hughes movie (which I do love), so that's probably why I gave it a go. For its target audience, this will be a hit. For me, it had none of the humour or imagination of a John Hughes flick (his best ones anyway) and so it ended up as a bit of meh. Pointless exercise, a waste of time (for me), so to all the John Hughes movies I have loved before, don't worry, this doesn't hold a candle (or 16) to any of you!

Did the father have wives of 3 different asian nations, or was it just crappy casting?
