Togo as a puppy steals the show and where most of the charm is. Either way, this is a charming and dramatic true story of a hard working sleigh dog. That got less credit than Balto did.
emotional enough with great cinematography and beautiful directing..I believe this movie needs more attention or it will end up underrated! 7.7/10
Stunning, truly stunning.
As I pressed play on 'Togo' and began watching the initial scenes unfold, I was expecting a rehash/retread on Disney's previous films on this sort - e.g. 'White Fang' or 'Iron Will'. Those are good in their own right, but this 2019 film - which is about a true story - takes things to another dimension.
It tugs at the heartstrings profusely, from the first scene to the very last. It's superbly written, with there being a fair amount of surprises in terms of how the story unfolds. It's shot beautifully and put together, via the set design etc., excellently, while the score is magnificent.
Then you have the dogs, who are insanely charming throughout - especially, of course, the star that is Togo (Diesel). There's many a moment with him that produce all the feelings, from joy to sorrow to everything in between. The dogs are great and incredibly adorable.
Away from all of that, you have an outstanding performance from Willem Dafoe. Before seeing this, the most I remember of him is his role in 'Mr. Bean's Holiday'. This now takes over in those regards, it's a brilliant job done by Dafoe. Julianne Nicholson merits praise, also.
What a film. Not what I was expecting whatsoever, in the nicest possible way. Glad to see it has also been highly rated online. A must-watch!
Named after my favorite way to get McDonald's, Togo has no time for Balto stealing his thunder. Togo basically attacks the 1995 cartoon praising the sled dog that helped deliver a vaccine to sick people in Nome, Alaska before anyone was born. Through the aid of relentless CGI, this film proves that, because Togo ran way farther, Balto didn't do shit.
Still, if this film can move a cat loving urbanite then maybe Togo really is powerful.
Totally Ninja. Astonishing movie. Good story
Awesome movie, especially for dog lovers! Knowing that it is based on a true story makes it even more worthwhile!
i have no idea how i managed to watch this movie twice and still stayed alive, i should've died long ago from all these emotions
on a serious note it was a b e a u t i f u l movie, the music went so well with some of the scenes especially at the end of the movie, tears, pure tears
A man’s best friend. Well I love my dog films specially ones based on true events and it was a beautiful and heartwarming story. A good one from Dafoe.
P.S Togo as a puppy was adorable!
Julianne Nicholson and Dafoe did a great job, as expected, and Togo is lovely. The atmosphere manages to be quite tense, when necessary. But ultimately it's still a simple plot, so I can't give more than 7/10.
A beautiful film that brought tears to my eyes. Willem Dafoe, Julianne Nicholson are brilliant! And the true stars, the beautiful dogs who captured my heart.
I rate this film a 10/10 because Togo never truly got the recognition he deserved, but at the same time I don’t think they needed to marginalize the achievements of Balto. He was the media darling through no fault of his own. Togo and Balto both deserve all the celebration because dogs are the truest friends humans can ever have.
Regardless they are both very good boys and deserve all the love they’re given today.
I’m waiting for the film of Laika, the first dog in space from the USSR, and I’m sure will make me cry worse than Togo lol
*Very moving. I really enjoyed it!!!*
I decided to watch this movie because of William Dafoe... I've always been a fan of his performances.
This movie is very gripping from the beginning; For myself personally, I love a "real life" movie. I liked the pace and the story telling and how it would do flash backs and explain the characters.
I never knew the true story of the 1925 Serum run to Nome Until watching this.
I've heard of Balto before but never Togo. I was pleasantly surprised that this movie was almost 100% accurate to the real life events. Very enjoyable movie!!
My Score 8/10.
It's 2020, it's about time to stop glorifying dog mushing. Educate yourselves about the cruelty behind this.
Great movie based on a true story about a man and his sled dog team led but a Togo, a puppy misunderstood who became the heart of this story. Willem Defoe really is outstanding in this film as a tough leader with a heart of gold. A great watch, an inspirational story.
This was a lovely emotional movie for all the family. It has dogs of course i cried like a baby. Dafoe and especially Nicholson were great on their Roles. The CGI at some points and the fake dogs ruined something from the movie but cannot minimize the moral and bravery of the story.
Also grow up and stop this PC about how the dogs are abused on that harnest on pushing the sleds and all that. Those are Siberian huskies, they were made for that, that is their legacy, the nature made them for that kind of job, you are preventing them to excel at what are they made for. You know what is animal cruelty, having a Husky in an flat in a warm country/place.
The part where Dafoe and Toga overcome the cracking ice was strikingly reminiscent of the movie "Mission: Impossible". Drama and danger can be filmed without CGI effects. Rating 7/10
i'm not crying its just some dust in my eye.
There are way too many movies about Husky Sledding...
@ak13 Maybe people should look at how cruel human beings are today to dogs. The only other species that has 100% aligned itself with the human race. The only one. People treat these dogs like fashion accessories and give them no attention and leave them in cages for days on end and throw them to the pound when it’s not fashionable anymore. Sled racing was a hard life, but those dogs and humans experienced it together.
The best of the original movies on the Disney + streaming service, this is the moving and inspirational true story of Togo, the sled dog who wouldn't give up. Mercifully, Togo is played by a real animal, and not a CGI mockup, and that works to the movie's favour during the many scenes of harsh wilderness survival.
I was in tears throughout the whole film... :hearts:︎ this dogs stubbornness and it’s dedication towards its owner was heartbreaking. The ending just made he have a mental breakdown, it was beautiful... ;-;

Positives:
I felt that this movie did exactly what it was meant to do. A fun and exciting dog sledding movie but this one was different. I felt that the cinematography was amazing in this film some of the shots were shot beautifully. William Dafoe does an incredible job working off the dogs to give a very well done performance. The pace was nice in the movie and there was never a dull moment.
Negatives:
Only problem I have was that the CGI fell flat once in awhile. A couple points in the movie I could definitely tell the dogs were CGI and almost took away from the scene but not quite.
Overall:
Overall, really loved this film and I think they did a great job and it was a great way to show what Disney will bring you with there Disney+ Original Content.

A tension filled, heartfelt adventure about a man and his dog(s). Solid performances and an intriguing true story make for a pretty great romp through icy Alaska. Between this and The Lighthouse, Defoe is having a great year for movie defining monologues. Honestly quite surprising that something of this quality has been relegated to Disneys streaming platform, but I'm certainly not complaining.
