Toy Soldiers 1991

I really, really liked this one back in 1991. I think I wore out the tape in a couple of years. This has to be the first rewatch since back then, and well...it's not all that entertaining anymore. Sure...I still get goosebumps when I hear the score. I still enjoy it to a certain extent, BUT...the shortcomings are so in-your-face that you can't ignore them.

The story is pretty basic, and believing that a bunch of high school kids could take down terrorists was a lot harder now than back in the early 90s. The FBI and special forces people just look inept and stupid, and some of the lines are so god damn cheesy I got cravings for Cheetos.

The movie is watchable. Mostly because of the actors. The kids actually did a good job in this one...even with the limited material to work with. No matter that most of them were headed for obscurity in a few years.

You won't die from watching Toy Soldiers, but I don't think all that many would be entertained either. Half a star extra for an excellent score.

Completely forgot how tame of a movie this was other than a select few scenes. It's a bit run of the mill, but does have some elements (Divoff, great kid actors who really show they want to be there, Denholm Elliott as of course the Headmaster) but otherwise a rather unforgettable 90s thriller.
