Ocean + Triangle = I thought it's about them stranded in Bermuda Triangle, well I'm glad that I'm wrong. It's been a long time I watched a movie that makes me keep guessing on what is this all about.
Such a well made and executed plot which keeps wondering what is really happening till the end. This movie does not lay the answers easily to the audience whereby it requires you to process the plot properly in order for you to understand on what's really going on.
'Driver' towards the end made this clearer on what's the whole story all about. Well, it's proven literally nothing in our hand to change the fate / destiny.
Please watch it, it's a steady pace movie with an solid good plot.
The only hole that bothers me in this movie is what happened to Heather (or why is she in the movie). Besides that, it's a great filme based on greek mythology
The idea of the main character getting is some kind of loop hole, be it purgatory, her going crazy, the bermuda triangle or whatever is pretty interesting. For me especially the greek interpretation.
But holy shit was it boring. As soon as you pick up on the idea of the loop there's no reason to keep watching. You already know it'll end on her being stuck in there forever. There's nothing else there to keep it interesting or scary. Most incidents are clear to you one minute before they happen and all you see is things repeating themselves, but it doesn't add anything to the story and then you have to watch scenes multiple times.
The dialogue had some foreshadowing and meaning to it, but the characters were so cliche and at some times just dumb. (ex. watching the storm come and not immediately heading back). The acting was mediocre too. All the main character does is look confused/scared the whole movie, which leads me to my next point.
Being a horror movie it didn't scare me either. All she does is "act" like she's in a horror movie because there's literally nothing to be afraid of in the first 30 min and as soon as you get the idea nothing else happens or gets under your skin. The characters don't matter either, they're just there for the plot (ex the girl who drowns is there so you think it's her blood on the ship, which obviously it isn't) The cliched music cues and sounds were just annoying.
So yeah. The idea was ok, maybe great. I can't really say because the rest was horrible.
Highly recommend going in blind for this one. Triangle is definitely smarter than your average psychological mystery thriller. As I started watching I found it incredibly predictable, it's like your always two steps ahead of the movie the whole way through but... the final 15-20 mins were a total surprise I didn't see coming. That surprise elevates the movie as a whole and makes it pretty clever. Quite the guilt trip and I love the metaphors associated with it. Part of it is also left for interpretation which I love. A rewatch would do it good. Decent acting, ugly CGI in some parts but there wasn't that much, I like the setting and great job with the editing.
SPOILERS:
Why was her memory erased at the end?
1. Memory loss is simply the cost of getting a chance to go back to change the outcome. Or a side effect if you will.
OR
2. She died in the car crash and is somehow brought back to be punished by reliving what she did to her son. Some kind of purgatory.
The biggest indicator for me is the taxi driver, he's clearly aware of the situation and how it all works. He's probably the guide/guard/whatever of this purgatory.
But what bugs me is the fact that she wants to relive the whole thing again and that she's given the choice by the taxi driver. Why would she willingly go back to purgatory? Purgatory means you're dead, it's already too late to change things. The only two reasons I see why she would want to do it again is if: 1) She thinks there's a way to change the outcome. Then it's not purgatory but she's still alive and trying to change things or 2) she wants to relive purgatory because she's feeling so guilty she feels she still deserves the punishment.
I wouldn't say "Triangle" broke any new ground. It's looks nice has some horribly gross moments and at times builds up a decent amount of suspense. It isn't scary but it leaves you edgy especially during the first act. After that it turns into a Horror movie version of "Groundhog Day". The main character keeps reliving the same day and leaves herself messages which kind of reminded me of "Memento" but in reverse. The problem is that I forgot much of what happened just moments after it ended.
Even though it looks slick it's characters are the usual cast of Twenty-somethings that we don't give two shakes about and I think that's what disappoints the most about this. When characters die it has no impact because they are just so generic.
The ending left me scratching my head too. I wanted to leave my thoughts on how things concluded here but I'd have to watch this again a few times and its really not that interesting.
not the greatest movie. never-ending time loop. great actress. worth watching once.
If you're open-minded, attentive, and ready for something slightly different, chances are that you'll love this movie. I certainly enjoyed it.
This film met with mixed reviews and opinions. Personally I really like it. I like Greek mythology and I like time travel/paradox stories so this ended up being right up my alley. It's an interesting story about single mother Jess and some friends that end up on a mysterious ship and soon are getting stalked and killed by unknown assailant. This ends up looping over and over but unlike a normal time loop, this one varies quite a lot. I could say a lot more about it but I would be writing for ages lol.
What I'll conclude this with is...just give this a chance. Excellent story.
So fukin well made, with hidden message of Sisyphus rolling stone into hill and watch it roll back down, and to repeat this action forever. Really awesome movie, ending was just osom, was wondering whole movie, how it will ends and it was great ending, like in Sisyphus legend. . RECOMMENDED
Went in blind as recommended by @Acoucalancha and consider me surprised, halfway through the movie I kind of had an idea that this movie will be one of those that will fall into place beautifully, and it did, the execution was so beautifully handled. I was thoroughly engaged throughout the movie, the premise was interesting and the lead actress gave a convincing performance. It's not without flaws like the messy CGI which is not a big problem assuming this probably a low budget horror.
Highly recommend to go in blind.
A well made mindfucker, really enjoyed it, I will return after a while to watch it again
Do you like movies about time? Do you like so-called 'cerebral' movies? Do you like trying to figure out what's going on? Do you like metaphors? Then you'll probably like this.
This is a violent thriller time loop movie that is just okay, in my opinion. It's got a somewhat complicated plot but is engaging enough that it's worth a watch. Although, I don't know that I'll ever go back to it. Basically, I understood it as a giant metaphor where Jess (the protagonist) is Sisyphus, perpetually rolling the boulder up the hill only for it to fall back to the bottom again. In her case, she keeps going back on the boat, thinking that she can change the outcome of her son's death, only for it to end the same. However, there is some ambiguity here as we don't know how the loop started. What happened with the very first Jess? Without a second Jess, her son doesn't spill the paint, she doesn't change her clothes, and she isn't bludgeoned to death. Does she still get in a car crash? Maybe she loses her temper and accidentally kills her son? Or maybe they both make it to the sailboat and they all die in a real storm? My point is we don't get all the answers.
Overall, I don't regret watching it but don't expect anything different or better than other movies with time-based narratives. Also note that, despite the title, I didn't notice anything to do with the Bermuda Triangle (is that a spoiler?). Maybe the location is supposed to be the Bermuda Triangle? But I didn't notice anything explicit or significant. While we're at it, what was the significance of the ship being from the 1930s? I didn't notice that answered either.
Weird/unfinished physiatrics thriller about a group of friends who go out on a yachting cruise but end up capsizing and getting "rescued" by a drifting cruise liner that seems to be abandoned but it turns out its not and they (mostly the main character, Jess) get caught up in a thriller time loop. Usually these thriller time loop type films have a bit more of a clear understanding in the end but it seems the film was rushed and some big parts left out. But the acting was good and it kept you on the edge of your seat, but the characters weren't that loveable.
genuinely enjoyable if you go in without knowing the plot. i highly recommend it that way. even when i was ahead of the film and figured out the twist, going into it blind kept me invested even when i knew what was going on. i imagine knowing anything more about the plot than the idea of there being a loop would really take away from the experience. i do have to echo the sentiment of why tf heather is a character but other than that, i liked this a lot.
I'm blown away. Many reviews will say this is a time loop movie. (I would think something like should be spoiler tagged, but that's just me.)
It is not a time loop movie!
What I love about Triangle is that everything that explains what's going on is handed to us on a silver platter early on, yet the important bits to fill in the blanks are parceled out to the viewer at a near-perfect pace throughout the film.
The protagonist, Jess, goes for a first date on a boat with another couple, a single woman who the woman in the other couple invited along, and Victor, a young homeless man who the owner lets live on the boat. Aaaand now that I write that, I wonder if there is any deeper significance to those characters.
The film is beautifully shot. Some of the CGI is awful but that doesn't negatively impact the experience. The way it looked just made sense. I got the sense of a story being shown, and no feeling of an auteur showing off. I don't mind artsy films, but this film was well served by being shot straightforwardly...even if it may not seem straightforward at times. You may wonder why the POV of the camera suddenly goes from straight on the characters to looking down in the characters' backs from atop a staircase. Things like that.
The music and sound design were spot on as well. I just liked this movie a lot.
Loops, holes, time loops and horror. It's not a perfect film but it is a fun one and easy to get lost in while also creating an endless ebb and flow to the film. I had seen this when it first came out and wanted to revisit - glad I did. It may not live up the greats of this specific genre, but it does have a good foothold.
If you think this movie is great, suggest you to watch a Spanish movie called Los Cronocrímenes aka Timecrimes, with only 4 actors, tells a awesome time travel story with got awards. Triangle is boring, confusing and in the end predictable and messy.
Interesting and kind of creative.
A wonderful film, and makes you think. But there is not sure of his understanding. How it all began!Horror was when she saw copies of her dead friend. This film made me feel nervous for hours.
Wow. Bad on so many levels! Acting, casting, plot. This movie was over in the first 15 min. And I'm a big horror fan saying that. The only ppl that think this is great are too dumb to figure out the twist early.
This movie is dark and full of plot holes. I did enjoy it never the less. If you want to enjoy it, turn your brain off for the duration of the movie.
This is basically Dark as a teen horror film. It’s playing with a lot of interesting ideas, but it starts to make less and less sense as it goes on. None of the characters are very well developed in the first place (not to mention that all the actors are doing really poor American accents for some reason), but then as soon as it gets to the part on the ship it has an increasingly hard time motivating the protagonist. It’s simultaneously clever and stupid; some parts are really contrived and forced (the protagonist decides to start killing; Liam Hemsworth’s cause of death), the reveals can be predictable (who’s wearing the mask?), but then I also like the direction it goes in during the third act (even if the final reveals pretty much kill any sense of logic). The tension and horror on top of that are always well executed, sometimes using the main concept to its benefit (for example, the shot revealing all the dead girls). Aside from some atrocious CGI, this is technically pretty decent. It has a good understanding of sound and location, as well as vibrant cinematography. Overall, I’m very torn on it, so a very light recommendation.
5.5/10
Boy, I think I got stuck in a loop, I felt like I had watched this movie about 10 times hahaha at first I didn't understand anything, then when I think I understand I go back to the beginning.
As far as the acting goes, there wasn't a whole lot to grade this on as there wasn't an awful lot of "acting" or character portrayal by anyone except the lead character "Jess" (played by Melissa George). She did her part well enough but the rest of the film just falls flat, for me. It was way too long for the shallow story that it portrayed and wasn't nearly the mind-bender that I was expecting. Not a "bad" movie, just not my particular cup of tea, really. Think Tom Cruise's Edge of Tomorrow with a bit of a psychotic twist to it. Or even Adam Sandler's Fifty First Dates or Bill Murray in Groundhog Day . Just a looping sequence that really never lives up to expectations and kind of leaves you wondering what will happen if/when it ever ends. There were loose ends that never got tied off, and that bugs me, and just overall I didn't care for the film. Again, it wasn't a "bad" movie; just not MY particular pleasure. Your mileage may vary…as judging from the various reviews/comments on here, there are a lot of people who really enjoyed it. I'm not sorry I watched it but definitely would NOT sit through it again.
♾:poop:
no more words, period.
Not even going to lie the movie got better as it picked up however sticking around to see the ending is definitely worth it
It's like the ship version of groundhogs day.
WOW! What a crazy movie. The ending scene was perfect. Craziest psychological horror I've seen yet.
Highly recommended. I regret watching it so late. Some people might find it underwhelming if they watch it now. This movie literally gives you feels of "Coherence"
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Triangle’:
This is precisely the kind of movie where you go in completely blind. Don’t read about it. Don’t watch a trailer. Just press play and enjoy endlessly trying to make sense of what you’re watching. I certainly did. Still am.
Sooo many questions. So much mystery. So much to decipher. What was real? Who was real? Was there a ton of thought put into the story with tales of Sisyphus? Or is there just a bunch of plot holes for us to never truly understand? I usually don’t enjoy movies that leave me scratching my head so much, but this was actually satisfying and I appreciate what they tried to do.
I felt bad only giving this a 7, but… as much as I enjoyed it and found it refreshingly original, I wonder if it’ll be at the cinematic forefront of my memory when it comes time to recommend a great flick to a friend.
Bonus Thought: It could have used a liiittle more Liam Hemsworth.
A smart narrative weave that is mostly consistent and where it's not it's still within tolerances. Unfortunately it's a bit dampened by a set of pretty unlikeable characters, even the nicer ones get on your nerves sooner or later.
I really enjoyed this movie. Seriously how many movies take place in the Bermuda Triangle???
10/10
This Movie hasn't aged a day and still holds as the absolute best of it's unique type.
This movie is super frickin awesome amazing and I've watched so many times over the years I have to be hitting triple numbers, but I will never ever get board of this phenomenal movie.
I've noticed every little hint and change to the point I've matched up the seconds and minutes to certain scenes.
I absolutely love these kind of stories, multiple versions and all that and this movie is definitely right at the top of that genre. This movie is perfection how it brings all the events together like off the charts perfection as in the tv show "LOST"
Perfection. I love how you are left wondering actually how far back does this time loop go, just how many Jess's are there running round in these damn loops.
(Does it go back as far as Jess's birth, Jess's Moms life, further, it's all rather fascinating and I love every single second of it. Was that Death at the end are a Reaper, who knows it's left up to you to decide.
Melissa knocked it out the ball park, I absolutely love her as an actress she's Awesome.
This movie is so clever and so well thought out and they just don't make em like this anymore, which is a damn shame but I am really glad
Stephen King the master himself has turned his talent to recently doing one called
"In The Tall Grass"
Where he definitely took his inspiration from
"Triangle" for his idea of a time warping, mind bending, wormhole falling,
Awesome Multiple realities
Movie experience.
Thank-You Stephen for keeping this extraordinary
concept alive.
I am super pleased to have them both in my collection.
They are the best at what they are and are the only 2 done exceptionally right of their kind.
:heart:x7
If you think you know what's going on, you probably don't. This is a bit of a time-loop movie. Which has been done to death, but, this one is a little different. We only watch and stay with one version of Jess in the movie (well, from a certain point). It's fascinating to see how each iteration of the time loop is different, yet the same. Even when you get to the very end of the movie you're still not quite sure if it's going to be the final iteration or not.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Decent time loop movie I expected more from the ending, not completely satisfied. It was a bit confusing at times. Showing multiple bodies of the same person at once was cool tho!
A pretty good mindfuck movie
Some interesting horror elements but a story that's so silly it kills those.
In short: meh. Decent actors, decent plot line, overall okay. It just missed that little bit of extra oomph that would have made it great.
Pretty cool little horror flick. The time loop idea is done well and has a pretty cool twist. There's a couple ways you could look at the movie, and for that reason you could discuss it endlessly. For that reason alone I think it was successful.
This through me for a loop in the most literal sense.
I'm surprised. It's much better than I expected before watch. Nice plot.
Excelent Film, One of the most best written movies out there, my love for greek mythology made this movie even better and excelent actors.
Awesome film, would recommend it to ANYONE!!!

I always recommend this movie as part of my “mind fuck” suggestions. Its such a unique concept and there were things that I didn’t even catch and had to look up later. Definitely a movie that requires lots of Reddit reading afterwards. A fun one to theorize over and potentially watch again to see if you can catch little things!
