what a big step up from the 1st movie
Well, it does not look like a cheap movie although I believe it is cheap in budget. You see how open you are on the net and privacy is important. In short it is not boring if you do not keep your expectations so high. Watchable.
So much better than the first one! I liked it, but that could have been because my expectations were really low after the first one.
There was one main part that really threw me off... When Matias decided to act like it was all a joke and THEY BELIEVED HIM! WTF was that? Still this was pretty watchable imo, and some parts definitely remind me of some real shit I've seen on the web.
I like the computer screen genre movies. I think this one isn't the strongest but does some stuff right. The story takes too long to get interesting and when it does, it gets really, stupidly, crazy. Still I enjoyed my time.
What a let down! I loved everything about the first one, but this one had all the excitement of a food selfie.
That it took 40 minutes (of a 90 minute film--that's nearly halfway over!) for the intrigue to kick in was bad enough, but once it did the story lacked all of the twists, suspense and violence of its predecessor.
I'm not only unfriending this franchise, I'm blocking and reporting it, as well.
Just finished this movie.. It wasn't all that good.. I felt no attachment to the characters.. as I did like the Theme and IMO the thrill had it's moments but Terrible writing and a Decent Plot. My final rating 2/5
Yet another reason to delete ALL of your social media profiles and clear your cookies! I don't know how plausible this film is, but I have to admit, for a film based entirely around a computer screen, it was horribly tense and effective. This will be the last post you read from me, however. I'm logging off, because for all I know, you are ALL miscreant do-badders hacking into my computer system. So, thanks for reading, but before any of you find out where I live, I am officially outta he__________________
More of a thriller than the horror its marketed as and focuses less on realism (why did they use Minecraft to represent the dark web?!) and more on delivering an immersive and engaging story.
Hey, what can I say, I didn't hate it. Which is more than I can say for its predecessor.
Dont waste your time, very dump movie...
Who wants to join my minecraft server?
I wish I could unwatch.
Honestly I feel like the acting was really really good. They truly felt like friends, it was very believable. It was an okay movie, I liked the ending.
Neither this one or the first are masterpieces... that being said... this is one on those exceptions where the sequel is better that the original.
Didn't have any expectation about this movie and it was pretty good. I like this computer screen theme film. Reminded me of searching but it's far better than this film. It's good if you have free time to watch a movie and don't have any expectation.
I enjoyed this more than the original. Since that I've seen searching and missing two more mainstream screenlife movies that I enjoyed (searching being the best of the group by far). This one for a horror sequel to a fairly tepid opening entry did more than a serviceable job. The idea of this type of gotcha surveillance is unnerving even if the execution isn't always at peak levels here.
The actor playing Matias was the highlight you could feel his fear and panic. Solid 6.2 for the genre.
Unfriended: Dark Web is the follow-up to 2014's Unfriended and tells the story of Matias, a man who finds a laptop without an owner and starts receiving strange messages from anonymous people. When the real owner of the laptop contacts Matias, he reveals that he is part of a dangerous cyber hacking group who are willing to kill to get their property back. Matias and his friends are drawn into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse as the group holds his deaf girlfriend, Amaya, as an unwitting hostage.
The movie explores the darker side of the internet, with the threat being rooted in the real world. The characters are confined to their own rooms, appearing on a group Skype call, which adds to the realism of the story. The performances are solid and the initial mystery element is strong, but the rushed and generic ending undermines the good work established in the movie. Although it's not entirely scary, the realism of the story can be unsettling. Overall, it's an improvement over the first Unfriended movie, but the final act falls short.
Actually better than I expected. Looking through Netflix I came across this movie. Blumhouse, if you know me than you know that I will watch immediately given just that Blumhouse is involved. They manage to tell eerie stories in a creative way. I like how you follow Matias and his friends along this creepy journey. As they put it together so do you. It's an easy to follow along movie, perfect if you're in the mood for something... light? Well light is not the right word. It's a very dark story with an even darker ending.
The scary part lies in that this could very well be based on real events. There is a lot of creepy stuff on the internet and a lot of creepy people out there in the world. A network of people who pay for murderous stuff is very likely out there and hacking is a reality for so many.
What I really applaud is that they could have shown so much gruesome stuff but chose to keep things hidden. You get just enough to create the picture in your mind and fill in the gaps that they leave.
An enjoyable horror which doesn't go ridiculous on the hacking like other films I've seen in the past (top row tapping can get you into any network etc...).
Small concepts often work much better than large budget shock scare films with little content, and this proves it.
This film is a very mixed bag.
Whilst the storyline was predictable, and even unnecessary in areas, I liked the way it was told. It's an interesting method, and very relatable for the digital age we are living in.
The characters however had no personality, they really felt like teenagers just screaming at each other over Skype. There was no true character development, no substance to any of them, and watching them act like morons was genuinely infuriating, I found myself questioning every choice they made.
Ultimately it wasn't the worst movie I've seen, but it was also far from the best, I wouldn't rate it any higher than a 6/10.
It's suspenseful, well acted, and fresh. What the hell more do you people want?
This movie totally terrifies me. After watching it, I sealed my laptop camera with a tape and hide my Wi-Fi SSID right away.
An ok movie, not very scary, but it shows us how safe our data is on the internet, anyway the movie has an interesting story, as I said it's not scary, it has a few jumpscarers but too many.
The problem with this movie is that it is short and could show us from the beginning how it took the laptop.
Another look at the horror with new technologies, but plot holes and simplification of the characters' behavior greatly lower the rating.
On another episode of filmmakers don't know what computers look like...
Matias, in a rocky relationship with his deaf girlfriend Amaya, buys a new computer from craigslist to develop an app called papaya to turn his words into sign for her. His friends decide to do games night online via skype, so appropriate for today's climate, however Matias is having issues with his computer crashing. As the movie goes on it is revealed that Matias wasn't telling the truth and he must save his friends from an evil dark web-based group of rich psychopaths to rescue his girlfriend.
The movie is very light on gore and interesting kills especially compared to the first movie. I think the decision to tie it to the unfriended movie was only so they could use the same computer interface. The characters weren't very well developed or interesting. I was glad to see a few characters that were not white and an LGBT couple.
The story was not very believable and unfolded way too fast. The drama around amaya and matias was so boring and forced. Matias isn't a very good boyfriend also. There are some logical leaps and things that don't make sense, like matias app being used to contact amaya when he's riding his bike to come meet her. I wonder how they even worked as a couple enough to fall in love because he can't sign at all.
The computer effects were decent but inaccurate. You can't get fb notifications if you are signed out. Messenger cannot be a floating window. You cant stay in a video chat if all your apps crash etc. The poor decisions in this movie really killed it for me, aside from knowing it would be bad it was worse than I thought it would be. Do not watch.
If you want to see a good movie that utilises a computer interface watch Searching.
"Dude, this is dark web!"
One of the most boring horror movies I've seen in awhile. There's no suspense, no atmosphere, no thrills, and nothing to hold my interest. All the characters are either annoying or unlikable, but it's much worst when you're struck with them.
Honestly, if I wanted to watch 93 minutes of blank pieces of wood staring into webcams, then I will just go on Zoom.
Tragically underrated. When film begins to branch out into completely new styles, there's an element of purpose that comes alongside the quality of the execution. Desktop movies are not brand new--this isn't even the first of the series. But what Dark Web understands better than any other desktop movie I've seen (looking at you, Searching) is that this story would not work if it were made in any other format. It explores concepts of privacy through social media and the slippery slope of moral grayness within the digital age and it does so with the slightest level of cheesiness that makes for an incredibly engaging experience.
I’m a classic horror movie person, I’ve never even watched Blair Witch, this was such a switch and it was goddamn fantastic!
I'm shocked. A balls deep, nonplussing emotional, clever horror trip with some shocks and pleasant punches. It seems studios are taking a look at their failed first installments, i.e. Ouija, now Unfriended, and actually making the effort to improve upon what didn't work. I say, it's a welcome surprise. From the trailer alone, I wanted nothing to do with Dark Web, I was laughing at the concept (and screaming at the normies), but meanwhile praising the teaser of similar project Searching. I walked in this expecting to hate it, but as it slowly built up, I found myself enjoying it. Stephen Susco's directorial debut, who he previously wrote the two Grudge remakes, pulls so meaty and slick twists. I'm not sure how much research he did into the dark web, but he kept the reality faithful enough with only taking a few liberties. It still bugs me they use the glitchy static whenever something evil is "on-screen." It wouldn't distort, it would just lag and buffer. But the nitpicks aside, they go it where it counts. They even implemented Remote Desktop Control, I love it. The type of blocking Susco implements with programs being open and shit made me roll my head back smiling at how ingenious some of it was. A livestream would be open on one tab will be playing a camera from one angle, but then on another tab hidden under in the corner will start showing something moving on same stream, meanwhile a message comes up in the other corner of the screen. It's difficult to explain, this was an elaborate set up, I can't imagine pulling all these elements together, but that part where Serena has to pick between her girlfriend or her mom had me rolling. But said having said that, it could lead into one of the bigger issues with movie, and I didn't much care for the six lead characters. Oh, they sure try, they try to make me care, and it works at a few parts. But, half the time, despite how evil (and grossly unrealistic) their actions, I was rooting for the Charon's to take the step further. Come on, hacking into Aj's computer and playing a shotgun cock sound as his house is getting swatted so he gets shot? Terrible, but I was near screaming in the theater. I won't say anything else they do, but it gets way better. There wasn't as much violence as I expected (hardly any blood), but the fast pace and twisted scenarios sufficed any bloodshed. Susco outdid himself on the direction. Just a mouse cursor spinning rapidly to capture the emotions of the character you can't see on camera, little details like that make this brilliant. It's full of 'em. If you were having any doubts about this like I was, it could surprise you. A fun and stirring little experience. Based on the ending, it really should've been called Game Night. Guess they had to change it after another release came out this year.
Do you really think the producer has found his money with this masterpiece?
Don't waste your time.
Well, it is entertaining and the suspense is good in the first act..Not as great as the first one, but if you have a free time to kill, then watch. The end totally sucked tho.
Excellent thriller. The Dark Web strikes back! Well worth a watch.:clap:
it wasn't that bad.
Nice to finally see a Blum movie with a happy ending!

Wow. I don't know if it's because my expectations were low, or I was just in the right mood, but that surprised me big time. The characters were grating on my nerves at first, but once it really started going, I found it really unsettling. I was tense throughout most of the movie, and that doesn't happen much with even the best of horror movies for me. The format takes some getting used to, and that will be hard for certain audiences to get into (especially older crowds), but I found it damn effective.
