V for Vendetta 2006

It became a tradition to watch this every 5th of November. By far one of the greatest films ever made, must've seen it 8 or 9 times by now, always blows my mind. If I could rate it 11, I would.

I rewatched this during the COVID Pandemic - it's scary how much of the movie resembles our current situations - not exactly of course - but what's scarier is how much easier it is today how one could see how things might progress in the real world to emulate this story.

I get the idea of the movie but a lot of scenes don't make sense if you think about it. It's so overrated.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill his idea. Writers use a lie to tell the truth but the government uses it to cover up

“Remember, remember the 5th of November...” Based on the Alan Moore graphic novel, V for Vendetta is a controversial science fiction thriller. In a dystopian future Britain has become a totalitarian dictatorship, but a mysterious anarchist dressed in a Guy Fawkes mask calls upon the citizenry to rebel, and plans to blowup Parliament. Featuring Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman, and John Hurt, the casting’s pretty strong (though it’s Weaving’s performance that carries the film). The dialog is especially well-written, and has a very fluid, lyrical quality to it. Additionally, the action sequences are intense and exciting; with some impressive uses of special effects. However, the left-wing politics are too extreme, and end up hurting the effectiveness of the allegorical and satirical aspects of the film. Yet despite its flaws, V for Vendetta is a provocative and well-crafted film that delivers an impassioned and powerful tale that continues to resonate with audiences.

One of the best movies of all time! Period! Good writing, acting, and all together. 10/10

One of the absolute best movies ever made. It has such a charm and atmosphere and also a strong and good message. And also one of the best plot twists ever.

Corona"Covid-19" Virus = St. Mary's Virus

Coincidence? I think not
I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this movie(Aug2022). Alan Moore's legendary
graphic novel seems all too real for the times.

Do yourself a favor and watch this film.

Great movie I love the relation this fictional movie portrays between history and important messages such as though independence. It is a bit violent though I would not recommend it to the faint hearted.

loading replies

Becomes cartoonishly goofy with its evil characters and suffers from overbearingly cloying dramatic force at times, but if that doesn't bother you it's a very stylish power fantasy wanna be epic morality film with a charismatic performance from Hugo Weaving. Personally, I was put off by aforementioned issues when watching it in my early twenties.

Remember remember the 5th of November...

Someone mentioned it regarding "now" and remembered I hadn't seen it in a long time. Just saw it and it's kinda scary how fitting it is. Hmm...

One of the few movies that was over the head of a couple of my friends yet thoroughly enjoyed. Don't know much about the Oscars, but if this movie didn't win a couple then shame on them.

With solid acting, great action, and fantastic technical wizardry, it sounds just like another "Matrix"-style ripoff. But the biggest difference in "V" is that it is a story of real ideas - not a fantastic, science fiction creation, but a genuine examination of the human condition. The power of fear takes center stage here - the fear of war, of disease, of famine. Fear is a basic human nature, and has been exploited as a weapon - a method of control - for centuries. And for those who would use it, a masked man waits in the shadows to carry out your sentence. The verdict? Vengeance. "V for Vendetta" is a must-see.

One of the best movies ever!

James McTeigue steps out of the shadows of the Wachowski's (the Matrix Trilogy) and George Lucas (Star Wars Episdoe II: Attack of the Clones) and shows some brass balls taking on quintesential Alan Moore (VfV, Watchmen, From Hell, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen - ignore the film it was an abortion that lived).

After a much needed polish to their decade old script the Wachowski's offered their trusted first AD a stab at the big time. Though the film diverges from the script in many ways and waters it down for a semi mainstream audience (what gets greenlit in Hollywood that isn't?) McTeigue must carry those shiny balls in a wheelbarrow because he delivers a dystopic future that bridges the gap between now and 1984/THX 1138.

Hugo Weaving delivers a remarkable, faceless, performance behind the stirringly emotive mask and gives power to the spoken word. Natalie Portman, though derided in some courts, brings just the right nuance to her performance which makes her extremely watchable and counters Weaving sublimely.

Random MajorMercyFlush side note: Alan Moore distants himself from the movie, as he does that to almost any transition of media to his work. He is a bearded eccentric resides in the UK and Neopagan and ceremonial magician who broke his mind when he wrote in From Hell (made as a Hughes Brothers movie starring Johnny Depp) the line "The one place gods inarguably exist is in the human mind". Had to have a little lie down afterwards.

Thanks for playing.

Wasn't sure what to think of this movie. I have heard family and friends saying this is an amazing movie. Finally took the the time to watch and it did live up to it's expectations. Such an extraordinary actor Hugo Weaving and that he could all do that behind a mask, such emotion and disctinction. Shout out to John Hurt, amazing villain and to all the other actors. Amazing movie.

This science fiction movie is less fictitious each year.

"Remember, remember the 5th of November..."

This was a brilliant movie, and I don't know why it's taken me so long to watch it! It really reminds me of 1984 but with a happy ending. V represented a culminated idea, and was more than just a person.

Humm, my first rewatch in probably ten years.
I must say, it was stronger the first time I saw it, but that was probably also because it was one of the very first things I've ever seen on television that questioned the government so harshly.

Still a good film though, and one everyone should have seen, or see again, in times such as these.
Today I'd probably rate it a 9/10... strong message, sometimes a little too overbearing in the delivery.

It's good not great. Decent action, interesting plot and a good performance from Hugo Weaving.

loading replies

Great film, incredibly well executed and watching it 14 years after release it's clear it stands as an important cultural reference for other media of the sort (Money Heist being the most recent that comes to mind).

Hadn't seen this since it was in the theater, where I thought it was decent but not great. Well, after lowering my expectations it fared a bit better. Natalie Portman's rotten British accent is still pretty tough to get past, but otherwise the roles are almost perfectly cast and the theme of the comic is still as appropriate today as it was in the early '80s. Although there were some surprising omissions from the original story (and a few disappointing new additions, like the hokey climactic scene with all the masks) Watchmen taught me that most times a panel-for-panel recreation isn't the right way to go. At least they kept the classic Alan Moore "I did it five minutes ago" moment, which still sends shivers down my spine.

Started off as a straight forward action movie that feels simular to a super hero movie. A straight forward political message about the system that has just enough relatability for people to think it's profound and even real. Those in charge are always the bad guys. This movie is an anarchistic teenage comic book readers wet dream. Obviously the real version of this movie is people wearing the mask and trashing the streets screaming the same multi purpose chants whatever the protest is. Fashion protests mostly.
How does terrorist hero V get in and out of some of the insane situations he's in, especially in this future controlling state? There was no set level of realism or fantasy. Where are the lines?
When Stephen Fry keeps a copy of the Quran because you 'don't have to be Muslim to find the images beautiful' the liberal messages start to get a bit wishy washy from then on. The second half isn't as good.
The type of movie people can watch to feel politically empowered and then send an intense tweet about the state of politics and they're anger before they return to that selfie or youtube video.

The Terrorist "V" takes on all his enemies in a Post-WW3 London. One of the best action movies I've ever seen! This is still true after watching it a 2nd time (and I guess it will probably be true after watching it a 3rd and 4th time ;-)).

A little too bloody, but the concept that an idea can change a nation is a powerful one and well played here.

What can I say? I love Wachowski movies. This was just impeccably made. I love it when action movies feel like that domino scene: where everything's set up just right, the pace is perfect, and it comes together amazingly well at the end. Sure the writing isn't perfect, but honestly I was too stunned to think about that.

Natalie Portman is stunning in this and absolutely killed it. She plays the part perfectly.

The film's depiction of fascism is terrifyingly accurate. Taking things the Nazis did (making an arbitrary symbol your flag, rounding up and murdering queer people, etc.) and putting it in Britain is brilliant. V's fight against them never got boring. The pace of the movie is relentless and there is never a misstep in it.

Anyways, if you like great action flics and love seeing fascists get murdered this is the movie for you :D

I decided to watch V for Vendetta after reading multiple positive reviews, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The plot was excellent, and the action scenes were excellent. Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving gave outstanding performances that made the characters come to life. Overall, I highly recommend this movie to anyone who loves action-packed thrillers with a compelling plot and great acting.

Beneath this mask, there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask, there is an idea,Mr.Creedy. And Ideas are bulletproof.

This movie introduced me to the world of DC studio. And I really felt in love with the movie and also the studio.I still remember the adrenaline rushing through my veins when I first watched this masterpiece. And today, after another rewatch, this movie felt as new as always. The idea of the graphic novel and the movie, itself, was something unforgettable and everlasting. And the presence of unyielding protagonist and a rather straightforward plot with so much rebellion and political evolution just bent its genre in all sides and made it binge worthy for all sort of people. Also, the references of famous plays and the appealing quotes made it rather heavier to consume and easier to keep in mind.

this movie has a good concept but i find it hard to believe eve character, also generally the acting was mediocre and too many plot holes.

loading replies

The script of the story will take everything like this praise of the mass movement following the bright idea. Unfortunately, it does not always stand in opposition to the realities it opposes.
Regardless of this, Natalie Portman can be congratulated on the role she played brilliantly.

This movie is just so good. I haven‘t seen seen it in a long time and in fact it was only my second time watching it and I liked it even more now. An amazing story, brilliant acting and just beautifully executed.
