The books are WAAAAAY better
Went in looking for a bad B movie. Alarmingly good movie. Only complaint: Dmitri looks like Tommy Wiseu
This movie is a really weird mix of Harry Potter, Beverly Hills 90210, Twilight and Veronica Mars all thrown into one. At the same time it's refreshing though. Don't take the movie too seriously and heck, it's perhaps even a little enjoyable.
If you're expecting a proper and thruthful book-adaption, you'll be in for a serious disapointment though.
It was enough to make me want to read the books, only because of the different way to see vampires. After read all the books I decided see it again. Bad, bad decision. (Now, I would give a 3 or 4)
tried to be harry potter chronicles using the V formula, but there is no sequel granted
It's awesome. Go check and watch this out. :D
I actually really enjoyed this film, it's good if you want a light and just a chickflick type of night.
Well... Considering I've read the books and really enjoyed the first ones I have to say that I am pretty darn disappointed. Found the movie rather plain and the actors just didn't make me care.
...and since I know there are plenty of books to come it was very obvious that this probably isn't the last Vampire Academy film. It should be, though.
I liked this film. It sticks closely to the book, even having direct quotes from it. However, that's also one of the problems: it crams so many events in 90 minutes that if you haven't read the book, I'm not sure how you're supposed to follow everything. And it also does a weird non-narration of Rose talking alone whenever she's inside Lissa's head. In my opinion, they should have leaned into the book aspect and had Rose's thoughts narrated over some scenes. It would help with clarity in some moments, and context in others.
The introduction script could have been better. Not sure why they decided that adding (in relation to the book version) the knocking on walls in annoyance, or commenting the equivalent to 'Couldn't you just not be traumatized and dream of hot guys?' were worthy? It didn't represent well the caring and protective nature that Rose has over Lissa.
I read the book series. I liked them, I thought it was creative enough to earn a 3/5, but as YA book there was this persistent lack of depth. Actions didn't have consequences, and no characters besides Rose had agency in the story. This film made me cringe at the same exact moments, so I respect how well-transmitted the book was through this.
Based on the best-selling young adult book series, Vampire Academy is a convoluted and monotonous tale. A half vampire, half human named Rose must protect a vampire princess from a mysterious assailant that’s stalking her. The script is incredibly weak; as it’s full of exposition dumps that try to explain the vampire social order and provide some ambiguous backstories for several key characters. And, the acting isn’t that good either; though Zoey Deutch does have a certain charisma. Yet the vampire mythology is quite intriguing, and there’s a good amount of mystery to the plot. Vampire Academy is clearly trying to cash in on the recent popularity of young adult fantasy, but it doesn’t put forth much effort into making a quality product.
This is the perfect movie when you want a fun, bad movie to laugh and cheer about. It's a wild ride, but an enjoyable one!
Really @ the vampire self harm cutting? :skull:
I know it's good news to a lot of watchers but the cliff hanging ending was great so I'm actually bummed to know a sequel will never come.
"They suck at school".
Aaaaand they suck at acting.
And the script sucks beyond belief.
To quote TW "I felt actual physical pain watching you"
One of the most ridiculous and somehow still mind numbingly boring YA (or) vampire movies/tv I've seen so far.
I watched to the end, unlike everyone else I know. Never improved. Never roped you in. Couldn't care less about any of the characters.
Incredibly predictable to the point of being trite.
The worst part is.. some of those actors are amazing in other productions.. but they're squandered here.
I really wish I could love this movie… but I don't
What's with the angsty teenage vampires? This was...I'm sorry...no other word to describe it...BAD. The only redeeming thing this movie had was the original take on the whole vampire thing...and the fact that the "bad" vampires looks like what a vampire should look like. Ugly and dead...
Another take at vampires movies. A bit refreshing, but still lame. Even so, still light years better then Twilight.
It was a good movie. Started watching it without any hopes but at the end was satisfied. At the ending there is possibility for a sequel so moar!!!!
this movie deserves an oscar
Not too bad ,
Could be better !
I am not sure what I have just seen.
Was it a Teenie movie?
Was it a Vampire movie?
What happened with this happy end? ^^ (hej that is no spoiler, it was pretty clear that it is a happy - end movie) ^^
What I can say it was definitely more a "Girlie" movie, than a movie for guys. So much make-up stuff, so much girlie talk, too much romance in the perspective of a girl. Even in the Twilight movies more action is going on; The movie was in some way confusing, because I did not know why the characters are reacting the way. Why the girls get into a fight on each other - because the reason why they did this, was not really logic.
So it was a little bit disappointing, because the first 15 minutes or something were good. But after that the movie got much more worse .-/
I did not wasted my time watching this movie, because in some way it was entertaining; but I am never gonna watch it again. Vampire Academy (or you could name it Vampire High School haha) gets 4 out of 10 trakt hearts because it was poorly written. In my opinion at least.

I feel that this material would lend itself much better to a TV show. As it is, it's an OK movie.
