very bad movie.waste of time
It's been a while since I've watched a film this bad. I only endured its duration because it was playing while I was travelling by train. The protagonists are so unlikable that I wanted the baddies to eradicate them from the face of the Earth.
You'll only enjoy "War on Everyone" if you suffer enough brain damage to qualify for disability, because the only war fought here is the one against good script writing.
This movie just plain sucked. Too many assholes, not a single person you wanted to root for. On the plus side, Tessa Thompson in hot pants.
Has much potential but squandered by the aimlessness of the script. It tries to be so many things and ultimately fails to be anything rather than a collection of loose sequences.
I enjoyed it. Better than expected.
If your sense of humour is even the slightest nuance lighter than pitch black, this movie is not for you.
If you are easily offended, this movie is not for you.
If you are appalled by senseless violence, this movie is not for you.
For the rest of us this is absolutely brilliant.
de la merde. pour attardé mental seulement
couldn't get till end. Not funny at all, done in poor taste.
Bad. 5 mins later, you'll forget this movie.
It doesn't take long to realize why this movie was released straight to streaming services, skipping the embarrassment of being a box-office flop. Unfunny... unclever... surprisingly bad.
Don't judge a Movie by it's title... Yes the title sucks but the Movie is hilarious! It's sorta like a Pulp Fictionish kind of comedy. I can see myself returning to watch this again and again just to memorize some the liners.
Really funny film, love the shift in tone towards the end of the movie. The cinematography is stunning, the colour palate is amazing, every shot is really exceptional. I couldnt concentrate on the cable car scene as i just wanted to look out over New Mexico, fantastic film.
Fun "bad" cop comedy. Story wasn't super deep, acting felt on par for the quality of the film, but In my opinion Skarsgard outclassed the rest of the cast.
All in all, this was an okay time waster of a comedy but definitely be warned it's a bit more gruesome than a lighthearted comedy.
Being aged 55 I could see from the get-go that this film was clearly a black pastiche on the many, many, buddy cop TV series and movies from my more ‘youthful’ days. At that time any cop film and others beyond this genre had to have this format. McDonagh, like his film directing brother, paints his canvas with broad brush strokes, when it’s finished you can see the brush marks and the occasional brush-hair sticking to the work but if you like it you are going to like it regardless.
McDonagh and his two leads have pulled off a difficult task they have made two wholly criminal police officers charismatic and likable. Particularly as Skarsgard especially did not seem to approach this role in that way.
Everything that happens from beginning to end is preposterously violent and over-the-top but no matter I was drawn to the story in front of me to such an extent that what might normally bother me with ‘ridiculousness’ did not really register. I winced at the crunches and cracks and laughed at the offhand comments and wisecracks that more often than not accompanied many of the crunches and cracks.
Micheal Pena, once again playing a cop, I think he might actually be one now, plays his role straight and with his usual aplomb. It must make a change for him that his character is slick, smartly dressed and on top of situations. He is well supported by Alexander Skarsgard all gangly limbs and foul-mouthed, it is to his great credit he makes his romance with the lovely Theo James somehow lovely and gentle amidst the mayhem and swearing.
Many have criticised the film for being disjointed and ‘all over the place’ but for me, this is the strength. There is no strong driven plot, it’s fairly simple, and for the audience, the story does not follow laid down railway tracks. Halfway through I could not have told you who was going to survive, who was going to ‘win’ and where everyone would end up.
It is not often a cop film starts off in New Mexico but halfway through the cops find themselves in Iceland.
All of the main and supporting actors seem to be in on the director’s vision with everyone playing, what they must have known is a pastiche, straight as an arrow. In particular the two female leads whilst not having as much screentime as their male counterparts have an important bearing on the story and make their roles count with great acting.
I found this a typical McDonagh film, be this John or Martin, and for me this films hit the right spot more often than it missed it. Having said this I can understand why others don’t get or like them. They are most definitely an acquired taste.
If crude humour is your thing this movie is for you.
A real disappointment from the director of Calvary. The film does have its moments, but they are lost in the ugliness of the whole movie.
War on Everyone was different from what I expected when I put on. At first I didn't like it, to be honest. But once I got to know the characters a little better it was okay. It wasn't as funny as I hoped it was going to be but the actors were great. I really enjoyed Alexander Skarsgard his character Terry Monroe. I kind of disliked him in the beginning but he turned out to be pretty great. A bit strange but with his heart in the right place. I also want to say that Caleb Landry Jones played such a character, really good. To round it all up, I liked the acting, the story wasn't as fun as I was hoping, but it was an okay film.
