We Are the Best! 2013

Despite a potentially interesting premise, it too often falls victim to the same old coming-of-age tropes. Just watch Sing Street if you’re looking for this type of film, it’s more charming and has better characters, acting and filmmaking. Or if you’re looking something that analyzes punk culture more thoroughly, maybe try SLC Punk. This movie, while not devoid of charming moments, is too forgettable and safe for my liking. The director captures some textures that feel authentically 80s, but like a lot of Scandinavian films the compositions are still quite bland.
