Welcome to Marwen 2018

I didn't know this was based on a true story, so after seeing the film, I am definitely going to check out the documentary that details the life and work of Mark Hogencamp. This is a sad and distressing film, and yet one leavened by humour and optimism. Oh, and it's also injected with that Zemeckis movie magic that brings Marks story, and the town of Marwen to life. Worth a watch.

Interesting premise. Interesting story. Clever presentation. Great cast. It left me wanting to see the documentary that this was based on (MARWENCOL) and see a Behind the Scenes look at the making of this film (I found https://youtu.be/wPljaZYCuFk). I give this film a 7 (good) out of 10. [Drama based on a Real Life story]

A really enjoyable movie. You really sympathize with Mark as life has dealt him a difficult hand. Whilst I'm not sure to what extent this was dramatized for the movie, living with anything near to what Mark the character was experiencing is something I can't imagine.

Very heartwrenching film and the use of animation with the figures was a stroke of genius, really helped distinguish between what was real and what was in his head.

I'd definitely recommend watching this film.

My first rent of amazon prime and it was definitely worth more than 1.99 and It had (zemeckis) beautiful work all over it and the reality and unreality fitted perfectly with some fantastic effects and the sense of humour was super, it had a bit of everything and the choice on main role was a good choice because it was a great performance from (Steve Carell) and the rest of the cast that made it the beautiful and emotional film it is and I love the fact it was based on a true story.

Without the cast, this would have been a score of 1/10. This movie was the story of a hateful sexist and misogynist, who was beaten by a crew of neo-Nazis, b/c they thought that he was gay. The irony was that his views of women were shared by the neo-Nazis. They both saw women as sex objects who served no other purpose. This was a movie about a man who doesn't deserve to be remembered. He's not a sympathetic figure. It's really disgusting that this was propped up the way it was. I'm saddened that the women who starred in this chose to do so.

This is one of those times where it is tough to give a a rating to a movie. After all, in this movie there is a LOT to like. First and foremost, the acting is superb. I have long been a fan of Carrell in dramatic roles and I've never seen him more vulnerable than he is in this role. And the supporting actors - they are all superb and do a great job delivering a movie that is full of love and empathy. That said, at times it isn't a great watch. I think that what they did with the live-action dolls was commendable... at times (especially the last sequence) they went on for too long.

A wonderful tale about the struggles of trying to overcome PTSD and fighting one's trauma, art, and brave men wearing heels.

Welcome to Marwen is a kinda odd film, combining live action with CG animated dolls. But it told quite an interesting true story.

Like the real life Mark Hogancamp, I'd have preferred to spend all my time in the fantasy world of his action figures rather than the real world into which we are constantly thrust. I can't help but feel this Forrest Gump with dolls robbed me of what could've been a truly original film with splendid CGI animation. At least it made me want to see the documentary on which it was based.
