Windfall 2022

The only decent thing of this movie is the OST.
All the rest is a boring Stockholm Syndrome.

I liked this film - had some quirky moments, fun lines and the actors did well. I guess the ending was predictable, but I enjoyed the trip non-the-less.

Really wacky film which I appreciated

The cast is great and the film plays along nicely until the end when everything is tied up in a neat bow.

(..) and did they sacrifice money for this? What a waste..

It's a bit like if you took half a glass of freshly pressed orange juice and filled the rest up with water. I get what they were going for but it just lacks anything that will truly make it interesting
It falls short with the humor, the thriller aspect and the character development and I just feel like they could have done more with it.

Not horrible but yeah, watered down orange juice

I really thought till the end that it’s all staged and he is payed to act as a robber to make the millionaire’s life more interesting and to save his marriage. In hindsight this would have been the better story though….

A tense, different kind of story trying for a less humorous Knives Out sort of vibe. Gets an extra point for really good acting all the way around.

Film 72 (Goal: 300) of 2024

I don't have much to say about this. This started off so well and for the first 25-35 minutes was an interesting enough film. And then as the main character, Jason Segel, playing a character named Nobody, discovers something, the intrigue and the quality of the script just collapses in on itself.

From that point on, the film becomes a laborious slog. It's only the last 20 minutes where the film finally makes some plot decisions but by then it's too little too late. And then immediately after a key moment towards the climax, the film returns to a slow plodding slog. I wanted to skip to the end when there were only 9 minutes to go. Neither capable of the capable actors Segel or Jesse Plemons can bring life to the lifeless film (and some terrible dialogue throughout the script doesn't help either). Add in Lily Collins' unenthused performance and her general in ability to display emotion, and that doesn't help one bit.

This was concept only and then banking on some good reliable actors to sell the rest.

I watched this mindless irrelevant piece of crap for 39 minutes. That's 39 minutes I could have watched paint dry and been more interested.

Less than 0/ 10.

Great cast, okay soundtrack, but everything else... Wtf? Really at a loss for the main characters motivations... Had the opportunity to run and leave her husband and the kidnapper in the dust several times, but kept coming back, and for what? Just to murder them both when kidnapper said he didn't give a fuck about her tattoo? The math ain't adding up here...

Just...no. Nothing interesting was said here, no points were made, this didn't need to exist.

There were a few tepid lines addressing class inequality but they never dig deep enough into it for me to believe this movie has an actual stance or message. The type of movie that triggers conservatives and pisses off leftists.

On top of all of that, the entire premise felt so contrived and though I like Segel in comedies he absolutely does not have the presence or dramatic chops to carry a film like this.

The ending was infuriating for several reasons.

Premise - 13/20 - The premise had promise.
Cast/characters - 13/20 - The cast wasn't bad. I believed the actors were the people they played. However, the characters seemed to have a lot of backstory that wasn't explained and it was a waste of acting ability.
Story - 7/20 - With so much back story left out, there was time to have some shit happen, right? Wrong. All action was packed into the last minute, and not even a satisfying ending.
Dialogue - 10/20 - If there's no action, the dialogue must be snappy, right? Wrong. Jason Segel's dialogue was underdeveloped, with his hostility under the surface. Jesse Plemons's dialogue was overdeveloped, without establishing why we should care about him at all. The wife was subservient, and you could tell the couple had issues, but why? Never discussed. Disappointing.
World-building - 8/20 - Nothing about the environment was important.

51/100 - 2.5/5 stars - The main idea of the movie was rooted in one simple idea that was explained but never really took off.

Didn't hate it like most of these comments I'm seeing here on movie mate/trakt. It was at times very slow, of course. Directors would use the term "deliberately paced" hehe. I don't mind a slow burn, but it wasn't perfect. A one-time watch. Enjoyed the acting for the most part. 6.2. Good, but not really close to great.
