Almost a Swedish Evil Dead remake, actually a good horror film with top acting and old-style physical effects, but a more original story would have been just grand :)
The 7th edition of MOTELx the International Horror Film Festival of Lisbon started yesterday and I decided to go in the last minute. I wanted to go to the last session of the day but I had never heard about this film before.
Wither is a very gory Swedish horror film that is almost like another version of Evil Dead, where young people decide to go to a house in the woods and every single one of them started to be possessed by some kind of evil force. It's the same old story that we all have seen before.
The plot could not be the most extraordinary thing but the gore effects are very effective and realistic.
Before the beginning of the session I wasn't counting on one thing, the two directors of the film and one of the producers, if I'm not mistaken, were there to talk about it and it was very interesting to hear them talk about how was doing it and which were the difficulties that they found to make a film like that work with a low-budget of just 4000$. Despite all of the flaws that the film might have is impressive that all of that was made just with that. They say that horror genre made in Sweden is just beginning and of course their biggest achievement is to make a film in the United States one day.
