It isn't the Bronx or Brooklyn, it isn't even New York. It's Chinatown... and it's about to explode.
In New York, racist Capt. Stanley White becomes obsessed with destroying a Chinese-American drug ring run by Joey Tai, an up-and-coming young gangster as ambitious as he is ruthless. While pursuing an unauthorized investigation, White grows increasingly willing to violate police protocol, resorting to progressively violent measures -- even as his concerned wife, Connie, and his superiors beg him to consider the consequences of his actions.

This movie was fascinating. Rourke was 90% unlikeable but it works. It almost feels like a spiritual sequel or more a companion piece to Chimino's Deer Hunter in how it shows the aftermath of the war in Vietnam but 10 years after. While it was definitely Rourke's movie it did present two men on either side of the law who won't back down or give up ever, no matter who pays for it. Speaking of Rourke, I feel like he could have been Bruce Willis if Bruce Willis hadn't happened.

Vastly underrated cop movie, one of Micky's best roles. Oliver Stone helped write the screenplay.

Rourke gives a pretty good performance, but it's not enough to save this film from mediocrity. The female lead's performance is atrocious. I think the only reason I watched this was because I got a free digital copy in my ultraviolet collection from some promo. I've seen worse, but the only way I could ever recommend this film to anyone would be if you are a major fan of Mickey Rourke.
