Young Adult 2011

I wanted to see this after I saw Jason Reitman and Charlize Theron's other movie, Tully. That was almost a sort of spiritual sequel to this. Charlize Theron is really good in this. Her character is a bitch. The story is somewhat relatable. Trying to relive your glory days seems like a good idea. Not super laugh out loud funny but more of awkward situation funny. Worth a watch.

37 years old and some mental issues and stuck in the past like in a loop...

I came to this film expecting a comedy yes but a little extra too. In the end I found it lacking on both fronts. I see no real growth in the lead character. Yes...we went on a journey with her but I could have done without this film. I may have expected too much but I expected more than what I got in watching this film. Conceptually it was a good idea but it had no soul. It fell apart either in the writing or the execution of the film. There were 1 or 2 scenes where it was approaching a soul but made an about turn before reaching the mark.

Utter garbage. Slow simple self indulgent effluence just not worthy of your time.

somehow expected more, I thought she was depressed and not a bitch, yes she's both but it made me dislike her, even tho towards the end it got a little better and clearer why she's the way she is, but all in all I didn't really enjoyed that movie, not that bad but meh

I found this movie interesting, and quite relatable in some aspects (e.g. being stuck in a rut, living with depression and loneliness, and wanting to relive the happy days of the past, but being unable to, as the requisite people and circumstances have changed). However, I found Mavis's character to be way too much of a bitch to relate to. Especially the way she treated Sandra.

Funny in places …. But sad.

Not sure why this was tagged as a comedy. There were a couple of dark/oddball comedy moments but it was more like an awkward dramedy than anything else. It was a time passer but I didn’t like it that much.

Charlie Theron puts in a very good performance in a lacklustre film with an unlikeable plot and a cop-out ending.

5.5/10

I don't understand how it could be classified as comedy. It's an interesting movie, with some more light moments, but certainly not funny or the movie that left you with a smile

For the life of me I can't figure out why Charlize Theron isn't a bigger star. Sure, she did some big Hollywood movies like Fury Road and Atomic Blonde. But those were action movies and she is a tremendous dramatic actress - her most recent example of this are Tully and Bombshell (she was by far the best part of that movie). In this movie she did something that I think is hard to do - she played a despicable character without having the character be too despicable. For some reason I kept thinking of Katherin Heigl's perfomance in the (severally over-rated) Knocked Up since that felt like someone that couldn't play this kind of character. There is such a thing as too whiny. Anyway, it was an ok movie until the ending - it really surprised me in a good way. I wasn't expecting it and it was refreshing.

I think I would have enjoyed this movie more if Mavis wasn't a total bitch. She still could've been a mess without being so mean—it would have made her more relatable and therefore easier to root for.

I thought it was really good and not at all what I was expecting.

another one of them films like Greenberg & Everything must go...where you have to be a certain age and have had certain life experiences to appreciate it and its message

It was blah!! Thought it would be much better. Just seemed like it ended too quick.
