Zero Dark Thirty 2012

This film, although it has undeniable image and acting qualities, is just too much bordering on propaganda of US war on terror and justification of extra judicial killing. No one should support this.

When after 30 min I am looking at my tablet then I know its not a good movie.
Was bored and just could not get into the movie.

loading replies

Boring. Needs to be half as long and it would still be boring.

Gritty and subdued, Zero Dark Thirty is a fascinating drama about a defining moment in the War on Terror. Based on real events, the film follows a CIA analyst who joins the task force that’s searching for Osama bin Laden, and the progress it took to find him. The cast features some impressive performances, but it’s Jessica Chastain that carries the film. Chastain gives a rich and compelling performance that personalizes the search and puts a face to it. However, the directing is a bit uneven; as there are pacing issues and gaps in the narrative, but there are also parts that feel quite real and intimate. While Zero Dark Thirty has its flaws, it provides a unique view of an event that shook the world.

Honestly, I´ve seen better documentaries than this. If you´re not heavily into such movies don`t bother watching.

loading replies

Too hyped up, long and boring... took me 3 days to finish watching.

Hollywood print of extra-judicial killing in the US terror war. Goebbels would be proud. When you are the number one terrorist in the world, you can call whoever you want a terrorist while thumbing your nose at international law. This country is now so morally depraved, that movies like that can even be made, and so,and get a good rating. Can you imagine the movies Germany would have made had they not tactically retreated to the USA?

loading replies

It's a shameful justification of "enhanced interrogation" and all the good it does while ignoring the terror and destruction it's unleashed

Zero Dark Thirty was a superb film because of its complexity, and attention to detail. Jessica Chastain was excellent as the story's compelling central character, and I'm not surprised she was nominated for an Oscar. I certainly did not anticipate enjoying it as much as I did. it was a long film that began strong but faded in the middle, but the last hour was enjoyable. All the way down here to raid, which was packed with suspense and drama.

Amazing movie that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the whole runtime. Especially the final hour is just breathtaking. Great acting, phenomenal soundtrack and captivating story.

Well, that was super underwhelming in my opinion as the film itself has no standout performances and it had some really awesome scenes with the last 30 minutes being some amazing tension-filled cinema. But this film was not as good as I was expecting and it doesn't deserve the praise it gets as it is way too long and gets boring at certain points.

I understand that this is an important story, but I feel it would have made a much better mini-series than a movie. The action is really good and some of the scenes build great tension, but the film is super drawn out. My suggestion is to watch Green Zone which is an incredibly underrated film and a better made film in my opinion.

Watchable once. I don't know why no one congratulated her for being right.

This was a rather easy film to watch once you get past the torture scenes. Fast-moving,well-acted, etc. I wonder how many people cheered at the end. It's a shame that the movie took as much criticism as it did for depicting the torture scenes. It happened and she depicted it - why should she change history?

All i know is Jessica turns to be my favourite actress after Portman she has amazing acting skills and she is gorgeous!

About the movie just great i really liked it!

loading replies

It's like Homeland, but a movie! I liked it.

loading replies

Just good as the story is. Nothing really special or surprising. With this background, story and context you must be too bad to make it wrong.

loading replies

Superb!

loading replies

Yay, I finally watched the entire movie without falling asleep midway through!

Anyways, for a movie about the hunt for Osama bin Laden I expected it to be much more engaging than it was.

loading replies

I was expecting so much more from this, the trailers made it seem so much more than what it delivered. The 2 hour build up is just far too long, and tedious, and then it all ends with a nod after a 20min search in darkness which was just so underwhelming.

Far too hyped up, and an extremely underwhelming movie that I just got bored of but had to inch in the hope it would get better...it didn't :(

loading replies

Technically impressive but surprisingly hollow.

loading replies

Really boring moving that all leads up to the last 10 minutes. The problem is, the big scene isn't event exciting. I am little confused how this could be one of the best pictures of the year. What was everyone else watching?

loading replies

Not as good as I expected. But a great movie. A little bit longer than it should be. But I liked it a lot. Takes me two days to end it... I want to see it again to pay more atention. Anyway... Worth your time. Recommended.

The hunt for Bin Laden in an intense and realistic film with an impeccable cast. Very good direction by Kathryn Bigelow, as usual.
My score : ★★★★★★★★☆☆

Zero Dark Thirty is a great movie that captures the intensity and complexity of the hunt for Osama Bin Laden. The film portrays the determination and sacrifice of the military and intelligence community in their mission to bring justice to the victims of 9/11. The attention to detail in the military operations is excellent and makes it a great military movie. However, it's important to note that the film may not be 100% accurate in terms of what the public actually knows about the real events. Despite this, it is still a highly entertaining movie that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

"It's cool, that you're strong and I respect it, I do. But in the end, everybody breaks, bro. It's biology."

Kathryn Bigelow directed the hell out of this. It starts slow but the end pays off for sure, especially knowing that this is a real story.

Jessica Chastain is awfully prolific, but as far as I’m concerned she can never be in too many movies. She’s brilliant here and such a joy to watch. On first viewing I thought the movie was a tad unfocused, but I enjoyed rewatching and was able to see the various elements come together in a more coherent way. Particularly notable is the UBL raid sequence that concludes the film–it’s viscerally shocking and almost physiologically demanding. Never seen anything like it. I wish Kathryn Bigelow had won for this movie instead of The Hurt Locker.

loading replies

Although it is long, it is not poorly edited. It simply plays out the long effort to locate UBL, and while it takes a long time in the film, that simply reflects the long time it took in real life. There is no padding in the film just for the sake of stretching the audience's patience; rather the writer and director manage to occupy that time with useful scenes that did not bore this viewer.

"Gripping, suspenseful, and brilliantly crafted."

I was totally not interested in this movie, but the TV was on and the remote just out of reach, so I didnt switch and... I started to get into the story and got more and more interested. The story grabbed me and I enjoyed the movie. In many ways this feels like a realistic view on how intelligence services operate and try to fight islamic extremists. A good role by Jessica Chastain.

Regardless of what you think of the politics, this is beautiful film making. Even if it seems like nothing is happening because it's just people talking, actually a lot is happening if you are paying attention. This movie is all about the little things, the questions that are being asked and in what order, the questions that are being answered and more importantly those which are not, at least not spoken. Pay attention and you will be rewarded with a great movie.

How USA found Osama Bin Laden? You can see a part of work of CIA in the film. The movement after 911 in this world are so complicated and terrorism can happen everywhere. The current world holds lots of problems and how can we deal with them?

loading replies

I guess am too patriotic but I gave a 10. Actually not that riveting to watch but I obviously liked the story. If you are not American you probably will give it a 7 or so :)

Pretty good and Jessica Chastain always superb!

loading replies

I thought this was better than the movie that won Picture of The Year, Argo. The torture scenes doomed it from winning.

loading replies

This movie is awesome. Those last 15 minutes are so tense. Epic movie and a clear report of the events.

A little lengthy, but still very good. Voltage, no moralizing assessment, clear account of the events. And a great role Jessica Chastain.

Except that Pakistani people don't speak "Lebanese Arabic", and that I expected to see how deeply was President Obama involved at least in the final operation just like media pictured in reality, I think it's very interesting film.

Interesting film, but best picture worthy? I don't think so. The problem is that this film is likely popular for its relative immediacy to the actual events, but I don't think it's going to stand the test of time, and is one of those movies that's going to be almost forgotten in a few years. For what it's worth, it does tell a good story. I'll also weigh in on the controversy surrounding the film and defending the filmmakers in that, while the film does show torture, it does not condone it. The film acknowledges that it happened but doesn't attach a value to it, leaving that up the audience. It might actually make an interesting Rorschach test. But again, this will not become a "classic" film and is simply riding the current-event wave, and will probably going to disappear into the sunset.

Have to say some of the documentaries were on par with this. Not very special in any way. Nevertheless, it did well to show what little intelligence they worked with the deduce UBL's location.

Loved it, but I'd read the book and followed the mission on the news, so there weren't any surprises. The tension as they walked upstairs was almost palpable. I would have liked them to have included the K-9 more who (BTW) was actually a Belgian Malenois and not a German Shepard.

Tells the tale of catching Bin Laden. But I cant help but feel that it isn't close enough to being a true story.

loading replies

Way too long and drawn out. Nothing happens for most of the movie and last five minutes actually deal with capture. If there was an Oscar award for Boring category, this would win one for sure.

Pretty underwhelming. I watched it because there was some controversy that this "glamorized" torture. Not sure exactly how the people who watched it came to that conclusion. What I saw was far from glamorizing or even supporting torture but then maybe I'm just offended by torture in any aspect?

I am going with a neutral 5 here, but just because of the camera work & the good acting.

All I know about this movie was that it was nominated for several Oscars, won 1 & that the producers are now in trouble because they didn't had all permissions to play the (9/11) audio recordings at the beginning.

To me it was a far too long 2 hour boring ride presenting suicide bombs, torture & a scavenger hunt. Ultimatively it's hate against hate leading... nowhere.
How many more movies like this (Bin Laden hunt) will be made? And WHY???
Please stop it USA!

The beginning was pretty decent, the middle got pretty slow, and the end was pretty awesome (in terms of action). Overall pretty good; good acting, etc.

Felt like the movie just dragged on and on and on. Parts caught my attention and others parts put me to sleep!

Not very accurate but what is to expect from a Hollywood movie, it has to be a cinema worthy. Overall it's a good movie with some very tense moments. I'm really impressed by the main character, very good acting.

loading replies

good film, much better than thought it would be...very tense. Very similar in style to Argo.

loading replies

Well-done and as realistic as it can get for an expensive picture and topic like this. Not too jingoistic or "Hollywood," as I believe they showed the reality of the situation and allowed the viewer to make his/her own judgement concerning the many controversial actions taken. Regardless on one's viewpoints, it's worth watching.

loading replies

This movie was a good but not as good as the trailers would have lead you to believe. The pacing was even a bit short and I can't help but think that liberty's were taken in the telling of this story as so many have suggested. In particular, the story told puts much of the credit on early intelligence acquired through enhanced tactics. I'm not even sure what side at times that the story teller (director) is on the way she handled some of the scenes. The National Geographic depiction I felt was a lot better.
