S2 was so much better than the first one. It gets deeper and darker with all characters. It approaches issues like rape, suicide, bullying, mental issues(!), gun violence. Use of different character perspectives and showing no one is pure black or white was perfect.
This season is definitely not easy to watch. Both visually and verbally. I cried my eyes out throughout the season and acting is the best I've seen in a while. Ending of S2 was also appropriate for the message of the show. I genuinely can't wait to see season 3.
This season was so incredible! I think they did such a great job at showing these harsh topics. Sexual assault, bullying, gun violence, drug abuse, the aftermath of suicide. Everything was done so well and I love how all these characters evolved, how many got better after the tapes like Courtney for example. How everyone got to deal with their guilt and trauma and how they ended up closer, fighting for each other and standing by each other.
That scene at the dance, where they all came through for Clay, beautiful!
The bathroom scene was extremely disturbing to watch, I still feel shocked but this too was powerful to show so people can discuss it because it IS the reality for so many kids. These actors have all done such a superb job at portraying these intens characters and storylines. I honestly hope there will be another season, we can never talk too much about these topics, about this show.
JESUS CHRIST THAT WAS A LOT. POOR FUCKING TYLER THAT SCENE IN THE BATHROOM WAS SO DISTURBING. NOT SURPRISED OVER THE FACT THAT HE WAS GONNA SHOOT AT THE DANCE, BUT GOD I CRIED. AND ALSO WHAT THE FUCK JESSICA, HAVING SEX WITH JUSTIN RIGHT AFTER U KISSED ALEX? REALLY?? i dont really know what to say about this season. A lot of things happened, but we didnt really get any answers
Oof, that was a lot to take in and I'm not quite sure where to start.
All in all I actually enjoyed this season much more. I felt like season 1 dragged on for too long and sometimes I was bored, though it might also be relevant to say that I read the book, so I knew most of the plot. The second season was more exciting for me and I think a big reason was that Clay wasn't the main character - We had all different kind of views and characters. It made it much more interesting.
The bathroom scene was completely shocking - I skipped through Hannah's rape scene in the last season, but this scene with Tyler was so quick that I was just staring at my screen and then it was already over. I honestly had to pause the video for a bit because I was feeling sick and I was crying. But now comes the point where I have to disagree with many people - I don't think it was unnecessary. The whole scene itself could've been done in a less explicit way, definitely, but I do think addressing the male on male rape and the continuing and even worse abuse Tyler suffered was relevant (though that should never excuse the planned shooting). And teenagers raping other teenagers with objects is so much more common than some people seem to think. It's not far-fetched.
So the only problem here for me is how graphic it was and I wish I would have been able to skip it, but society still acts like male on male rape is non-existent or even funny, so a show dealing seriously with it is something I welcome.
But I have to say I have a huge problem with the ending.
We were probably all wondering if the school shooting would happen or not because the "hints" have been there since the beginning (even at the end of the last season). I was never sure if they were using it as red herrings or if Tyler might get stopped while he's still planning it. So now I actually thought this would end with him shooting some people we know. To me it felt like the weirdest anti-climatic way to end it - Clay talking to Tyler instead of calling the cops and Tyler running away.
Which is actually my big problem with it - They definitely seem to have a third season planned and we are left with a bunch of cliffhangers which I really dislike. They had a chance to tie up some of the storylines in a slightly better way (skipping Chloe's pregnancy, having more moments with Jessica/Justin, not having Justing use heroin again etc) and the end with the dance would have been good. It wouldn't have been a perfect happy end, but it would have been bittersweet. But instead we are left with this. I know how bad it sounds to say "I wish they went through with the school shooting", but I think this would have been a much better idea than just having Clay talk to Tyler for two minutes.
I also think it's weird to have school shootings as a taboo in shows - Nowadays this topic is even more relevant than ever and I really hope Netflix didn't change the ending because of the recent Santa Fe shooting. Especially because of the recent shootings we shouldn't ignore such topics.
So I'm really angry that literally the last episode destroyed a lot of the progress we made (Justin getting clean, Tyler working on himself, Alex and Jessica getting together etc) and the only reason I can see is that they want to make a third season.
The season as a whole felt really subpar compared to the first one. It was filled with plot holes (the sixth episode was infuriating and made no sense whatsoever) and storylines that didn’t landed nor delivered. The courtroom scenes were interesting at first, as was the concept of the character testifying becoming the center of the episode but they became ridiculous FAST as the show used them as a way to move forward with the plot and justify flashbacks forgoing any sense of legal proceedings and reality. (How many times did the judge say ‘I’ll allow it’ about truly insane línes of questioning? It was ABSURD)
Brandon Flynn and Miles Herzer delivered strong performances but the MVP was Devin Druid. THAT scene on the final episode was disturbing and hard to watch but Druid excelled during it and the character’s arc (even though it was rather predictable).
It was a mess but I couldn’t stop watching
This should be the true and definitive end of the series. I absolutely loved this. They have been teasing a school shooting since the end of the first season, and I’m so incredibly fucking happy that it was cut short. I can’t believe people are shitting on the show because Tyler didn’t kill people. The show is giving the message that people don’t have to die for justice to be given. That’s why Clay urges Tyler to stop. And he does. And it’s so beautiful. What a wonderfully realistic depiction of a potential school shooter. With that being said, I don’t appreciate how the episode is calling for a Season Three. Like we really need to see what’s happening with Justin’s Dad, we need to see what Chloe is going to do about being pregnant, what Clay will do with the gun? Meh. The episode was still phenomenal though and struck all the right chords.
WTF was that why they didn't send Bryce to jail why Tyler didn't kill everyone omg
pls make season 3 better and do what all people things is right
This was a great episode until the last 20 minutes or so. The last 20 minutes just felt like they were undoing character development and setting things up for another season. It felt completely uneccessary.
While a good episode, there is a very violent depiction of a male rape that was way overdone. it was so violent. now generally I don't mind the violence in the show but this was just on such a different level. The bigger issue was among the rest of the episode it didn't fit. the rest of the episode was awesome. The bigger issue though here was that it literally came out of nowhere in the episode. Things we're wrapping up and really being wrapped up well until that scene. If you have a squeemish stomach stay away. As a rape survivor myself, I found this particular portion to be way over the top in the violence sector and it could have been done many other ways. Just my opinion though. otherwise great season!
First of all. Respect for the actors and actresses for playing in this show. It couldn't be easy for them. I hope they're all doing as good as possible.
This episode was such an emotional rollercoaster. It had ups like Hanna's funeral and the meetup or adopting Justin, downs like Bryce's court, Justin doing drugs (and hooking up with Jess) and deep deep downs.
What happened to Tyler was... I have no words for it. I had to pause after that scene. I wrote couple of episodes ago Tyler will mass shoot, if he don't get a good friend. Here we are.
I just hope Clay will drop the gun and don't let the police to see him with it. That would be d*k move from the writers.
Comparing rape to losing championship... That's a whole new level. It's all so f**ed up. No girl would report report rape after this.
Maybe I see it too simple, but without (people like) Bryce there wouldn't be this show, he's the universal evil that leads back to almost all the bad things that happened on this show.
WTF is that weak ending, this episode and the last one were very poor!
Is there season three?! Or we are gonna stuck with that ending?!
The system is corrupted, no justice, nothing is right! That is what the show is about.
What happened to Tyler was just bad and it worse his reaction really!
On the other hand, one really cried in the dancing part when their song played, that was sad :(
And when Hannah's mother gave Clay the why not list, that was emotional scene too.
And...done with the second season. Reminded me of the Parkland shooting. I felt bad for Tyler. He was trying to change his life around, and people like Montgomery get in the way of that. It's not right, and their bullying is going to lead to worse things happening. The principal and the school are definitely at fault for this, as they know Montgomery and his posse are bullying other kids, and do absolutely nothing to stop them. So next season will probably be Tyler-centric, not Hannah. At this point, fuck Bryce, Montgomery and the rest of his rapist friends.
I knew Bryce would get left off with minimal consequence, because look what happens to rape victims in reality: death threats, harassment, being declared liars and whores, having their encounter summarized as "witch hunts", and the accused getting off free. Look at the case of Kavanaugh. He had 3 accusers, and it still wasn't deemed important enough for a criminal investigation. Whether he was guilty of sexual assault and/or rape, or not, we will never know, but the alleged victims were decried as liars by the President of the United States, and at least one have to move from her own home to get away from death threats. So, yes this series does hit a nerve for me, since nobody wanted to believe that Hannah or Jessica were raped, just like nobody wanted to believe that Swetnick and Ford could've been assaulted.
Okay, done with the political rant, and time to find another show to watch until the next season comes. Can't wait for Montgomery to keep getting away with his bullshit though.
A month after the trial ended, Bryce and Justin are both put on probation following their arrests, and Bryce has to transfer schools. The Bakers have a wake for Hannah and Mrs. Baker tells Clay she is moving to New York. Mrs. Baker also gives Clay a list she found on Hannah's computer of the reasons why not to kill herself. Tyler finishes his program and goes back to school where he is brutally assaulted in the washroom by the jocks. Zach preps Alex for the spring dance and when everything seems to be going well, these kids find out Tyler is heading to the school with firearms. Clay goes outside to stop him, Tyler leaves with Tony and Clay is left standing outside holding an assault rifle with Jessica and Justin wondering what will happen next. Overall, the second season is interesting as it shifts the narrative and has no material to go off of as the first season was based on the book. It definitely does tackle social issues that need to be addressed and brings forth the urgent need for people to understand it is okay to talk about their problems and there is always a way to find a good solution to them. A third season has already been confirmed and I'm curious to see where this show goes next.
Justin getting adopted is the most wholesome thing of this series. Clay and Justin have such a bromance! Justin deserves a proper family (that better not be his bio dad lurking in the background)
Alex and Zach's bromance is absolutely adorable too!
I hope there is no second season
Disgusting what they did to Tyler, I hope Justin gets better and stop doing those stuff. But now he is kinda with Jess so I hope he'll be happy and gets better
Very anticlimactic ending. If they want to keep it actual they should have let Tyler do what he was supposed to do. I was very disappointed by the lack of realism in that moment. We were looking forward to this moment since season one and we didn’t get it.
This episode was harsh af! Was very interesting to see how people's actions on others can lead them to do terrible things, like Tyler who was about to shootout at the dance.
OMG the scene in the school bathroom with Tyler and Monty was brutal af, I was not expecting anything like that. Was a great episode, but a bit disturbing when you really think about it.
Hope everything will end in season 3.
Man, that mop looked f**king painful.

Well the show had the opportunity to get realy bold and important. But they get cold feet. The ending felt so stupid and unrealistic. Maybe the nra had something against it or they dont want to get political.
