Just finished watching a couple of episodes. Firstly the cast is solid and the show has done a great job capturing the magic/realistic nature of the wild west. Plus there are some darker sides of the lawless of the times. I especially enjoyed the monologue coming from the young lead female lead. I hope this show will be part shocking (Brutality), informative, sad, exhilarating and picturesque. I just hope they don't mix too much romance into the storyline!
Ok Tyler Sheridan did not disappoint with this one so far, two episodes in and loving it. Great cast and the story keeps getting better, not for the faint of heart, the show has a lot of violence and scant language.
If Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown are your jam, do not miss this one.
Looking forward to this, especially as Sam Elliott is in it. Owner of the best western moustache ever! He brings a great presence to anything he's in. Isabel May, excellent as narrator, looks remarkably like a cross between Jenifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman! A future star in the making.
The best series I have seen in a long time.
After watching the regular series I highly recommend watching the behind the scenes special 1883: The Road West.
Excellent story and very authentic. 10/10
Make sure you watch the Special episode for a look at the way it's made and written.
I love this show. How can you not love Sam Elliot in absolutely anything he does? With the exception of some really bizarre accents, this is a superbly done western. I didn't even care that it's a prequel to Yellowstone, this show stands on its own without any tie in to other shows.
If you like Lonesome Dove then this will become your new favorite. I still love Lonesome Dove, but this tops it. Aside from Band of Brothers I'm not sure there's a better mini-series out there.
I'm really enjoying this show! Good actors, great scenery and solid story. So far, every episode was better. Nice job.
Amazing cast, top lead. Pioneering had a grim outlook, it is well portrait in this TV show... AND!!! Can we have a spin-off with Billy Bob Thornton playing ALL the parts?
Why is her nose always dripping with snot..
Best show out there. Visuals, story, acting all great
Enjoying everything about this show but the overly bleached white teeth and any time the model with the “blonde hair” (they didn’t even try to hide her roots) starts up the cheesy narrating. Turns out Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are solid actors.
After the 20th time of hearing the daughter character monologue about stupid inane garbage I, much like a lot of other characters in this series, want to put a gun in my mouth.
Started out ok in first 3 episodes and I gave up when they tried to cross the calm river on a bright sunny day and had to listen to all the whiners. One shot showed a river of depth of 3 feet or so and people drowning. Makes Sam Elliot look like an idiot. What a disappointment!
Be warned... this will break your heart. But it's worth it.
Although the female point of view is corny and puerile in the voice-over texts, Sheridan manages to create a melancholic, sad and violent western with characters doomed to despair. And that reconstruction of a disillusioned colonialism provides characters as complex as Shea (Sam Elliott), who represents the beginning of the disappearance of a way of life and an era, for better and for worse, which is what masterfully connects the spirit of this prequel with "Yellowstone".
First good serie of 2022 love it
Finally a good tv show. Must watch
Best show I have seen for a very long time 10/10
Well I can say this is the top one of 2022 great acting and story
What a great Christmas present for 2021. I watched the first episode today after getting to know this show has started.
I'm huge fan of Yellowstone and Beth Dutton in particular. I immediately liked Elisa Dutton (played by Isabel May from Run Hide Fight). We can see from whom Beth inherited her unconquerable soul from. Like Beth, Elisa too has a special bond with her father.
Tim McGraw playing James Dutton didn't come as a surprise since Yellowstone's season 4 flashbacks had him playing the role. I'm really excited to see how this story unfolds and what Sam Elliott's, LaMonica Garrett's and Faith Hill's characters bring in to the story. There's some serious star power there. Having said that, since this story is being told from great ancestor Dutton's (Elisa Dutton's) point of view, this will be a big role for Isabel May. No pressure, but I'm sure Isabel will make us all proud.
Another notable thing is how the writers have given different accents to other supporting characters, and in certain cases they can't speak English at all (the German immigrants). This is very rare in previous historical stories about pioneers. I think this type of authentic portrayal of American pioneers is a need of our time, and I'll leave it at that.
Watched first 2 episodes - very good!! Better than Yellowstone - which has turned into a sort of soap opera.
So far 10/10
This show was amazing, and this is coming from someone who doesn’t watch westerns. I think just about everyone would enjoy this show as long as they are willing to give it a chance. I’ve seen some reviews of people saying this show was woke. Well I have wokeness myself, but I definitely wouldn’t consider this a woke show.
This piece of trash starts with the white washing of the Native American tribes right off the bat. It's well documented that cowboys, mostly cattle driving, both during and in between cattle seasons, regularly murdered and raped homesteaders on their homesteads and en route to the West. The US Army officers of the time often wrote to DC about this problem and many were told, or voluntarily, blamed local tribes to justify annihilation of the Native Americans.
I had a feeling this crap would be white washed but I thought, give it a chance. The very first scene gave the false history a big pat on the back, with a minor nod to how awful the white settlers were because of the false narrative white America used to justify stealing the lands, forcing Natives into tiny sector, now called reservations, and even used to keep them poor, unemployed and without running water even to this day.
Plus, if you're going to make garbage like this, make sure the actress isn't a damn bottle blonde whose natural hair color is darker than most Natives. They didn't have hair dye in 1883 and homesteaders couldn't afford it.
I'm so disgusted. Paramount should be ashamed. This piece of shit is critically acclaimed? Of course it is..... welcome to whitewashed Amerikkka.
You don't have to like western movies/series to fall in love with this masterpiece Also, just knowing that Taylor Sheridan wrote this is enough reason for you to watch it.
Wow!... Not really into westerns per-say, however, this show is Amazing and will bring Sorrow & Joy to your heart & Eyes.
I can't ait for season two,... Paramount+ confirmed on February 15 that more episodes are indeed on the way. It's unclear how many new episodes will be shot and if they will consider it a full season, but rest assured that the story isn't ending yet.
i guess this is more stuff for USA persons, since its over there in western. for me, living in Portugal, i have zero idea
I must say that only one episode is left, but i give a 9 no this show
all the actors for me have done a great but great show
and the surrounds really make me feel that this really happened, and probably part of it happened for real
cant wait for the last one but sad if they dont make a season 2
what a dramatic show and im not even the type of person that enjoy drama that much
5 Episodes in and it's pretty good so far.. looking forward to this series lasting quite a few seasons. Hope the quality of writing keeps up.
9/10
This is quickly turning into my favorite show. I find it to be a blend of Lonesome Dove and the TV Series from the mid-70s “How The West Was Won” with a little of the classic western Red River tossed in. Absolutely, love the Isabel May character Elsa Dutton. Really hoping they don't kill her off. Doesn't look good from the opening sequence of the series.
No special comments, just watch it. !
Billy Bob Thornton was mentioned ad a cast member I was hoping he'd have a bigger part than just a cameo role. He seemed like hed fit in right in this series.
This is a phenomenal show. When I started watching Yellowstone when it first aired, I quickly became a fan of Taylor Sheridan's projects. The Dutton universe is still growing and I'm excited to see what else it brings. 1883 is the best in my opinion so far... then Yellowstone and then 1923. All 3 are fantastic!
Score: 8.3/10
Do I dare say this is better than Yellowstone? I think it certainly is up there with the best seasons of the show. 1883 provides a lot of the same style as Yellowstone, but I may just prefer it because I personally just enjoy the setting of the Wild West more. I actually enjoy the time spent on the beautiful shots of the plains, mountains, cattle, horses, etc because it feels like I'm taking a step back into this time and going on this journey with the characters. It's much more rugged and dangerous than the all of the cowboying stuff we get on the ranch in Yellowstone, therefore it's more exciting. I also thought every cast member did a great job here. Tim McGraw was surprisingly really cool casting, as was Faith Hill. Isabel May was pretty good but a little up and down at times. But Sam Elliot steals the show and was the clear standout for me, just so great. At times I enjoyed the narration, but at other times it felt way too wordy and forced. The show also started to lose me a little as it approached its end. I just couldn't always get behind Elsa as a character and the choices she made. I get that she's young and reckless, exciting to be discovering and exploring a new world of possibilities, and while that sometimes came off as charming naïveté, it sometimes came off as frustrating ignorance. However, overall I really enjoyed this show just as much as the best seasons of Yellowstone and maybe more.

A must see. Old scool story telling, with great actors, excellent outdoor scenes, tragic characters and perfectly fitting music.
Most defintelly in my hall of fame.
A more realistic approach to the pioneers and westerns. Don't know how accurate it is, but seems much more accurate than those typical saloon gunslinger productions.
There is no right choice. There is only luck.
Some people should remember this, I have to say.
Pathetic, predictable and it had not even been modern in 1956. Do not see it. Life is too short to waste 10 hours on this video.
Great first 3 episodes, then the series became a 2022 revisionist female centric fantasy. No spoiler alerts here, but if you want to watch something written and made before the woke mentality took over Hollywood, you have to watch Lonesome Dove, or even its prequel Comanche Moon. The books are wonderful too.
Good show but the accents — especially Elsa’s — are atrocious. Her parents’ liberal attitude is quite farfetched as well.
Through its evocation of the horrors of a wagon train to Montana from Texas felt sometimes too honed, and it's pastoral scenes and transcendentalist narration eerily beautiful, the story still holds together. The narrator problem at the end does seem to contradict the expected plot armour, but the depiction of actual dangers and costs in human life made for a realistic tenderness and perfunctory ordinariness to it all. Enjoyed every moment of it so much that had to savour the bitter sweetness of it all. Although it is constructed as a prologue to a modern story told before it some years ago, that still doesn't interest me because I'm more interested in the becoming of it, interspersed with little historical nods at Western history. 7/10.
Ok, I love Yellowstone - interested to see how this plays out, western expansion hints that the native population should still be there (There are multiple mentions in Yellowstone, that the land making up the Dutton Farm was originally in use by the native population).
Too sad.
But I enjoyed it.
Oh God. I cried my eyes out. Such a great show but oh so sad. The actors were superb. Haven't seen a show this heart tearing for a while.
Loved Faith and Tim here.
Elsa was almost insufferable to be the main focus. Got tired of her melodramatic monologues every 10 minutes and the way she immediately folds to any man after just a few compliments about her looks.
The trakt link to this is incorrect, keeps showing me some animation show
So, Trakt linked to Syncler shows 1883, but when I select episodes or play 1x1 up comes some shit called "Hey Joel" and in
Trakt watched it shows f*ck*ng Hey Joel! WTF Trakt!
People keep voting without any episode is out, is kind of ignorant.
That said, I'm really happy about this and can't wait to see it. It's from Sheridan who's the mind behind Yellowstone, one of my favorite shows. The trailer looked good.
This checks all the boxes of a historical drama and western. I appreciated the writing, cinematography, character depth, and acting. ...and casting Sam Elliot? Let's go!
1883 is an American Western drama television miniseries created by Taylor Sheridan

Master piece
Epic
Wonderfull
Without words
Unrealistic show. The wagon trains were well established in 1883. Plenty of well know campgrounds and trading posts along the way. Hence finding river fords and all else concerning travel on the trails is utter nonsense.
Likewise, the civil war footage is total crap.
the reality that most of the wagon train trails with trading posts were well established by 1883 is completely lost on the writers of this series.
The Yellowstone spin offs are so good. Yes this one starting from the very beginning as they make their way to Montana is a bit slow moving, but provides great insight to the personality of the Dutton family. The character development is good and the action is great, but the journey is what keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.
The worldview of this series is very bleak and the narration constantly reinforces the nihilistic attitude of the 17 year old protagonist. I found this to be very tiresome and to distract from the drama itself (I could have done without it). The story itself was very compelling and the musicians turned actors were surprisingly good in their roles. (I guess being a story teller in one medium can translate to other mediums as well.) The characters were well drawn and had depth. The locations were beautiful in all their expressions. The treatment of indigenous peoples was very respectful, allowing us to see people rather than just stereotypes. I give this limited series an 8 (starkly beautiful) out of 10. [Western Drama] Available on Paramount+
Excellent show. I didn’t know Tim McGraw and faith hill could act…. Really loved it.
waaa waaa I'm a big whiny baby and there are black people in a TV show waaaaaaaaaaa. You right wing edgelords are so fucking cringey
Such a cool prequel to Yellowstone showing the very beginning as the Dutton family begins to move their way out of Texas and into the wild wild west where they eventually land in new land where they would build their empire. This show is just like most westerns, but focuses on the Oregon trail as the Dutttons battle sickness, weather and foes along the way while being part of a big group that slowly, yet quickly diminishes. The acting of McGraw and Hill along with other notables is fantastic as they really express the essence of their characters. The show is a bit slow moving but it certainly keeps one on their toes and the character development is incredibly well played out as it brings the audience really close to them.
Anything with Sam Elliot in it is worth watching. It's a shame that the show is ruined by including the Elsa character giving her stupid and unnecessary opinion about everything. This could be a perfect show except for that feminist shit
Thought there would be a second season if this.... Oh well, yellows tone will do me.

I'm a sucker for a good Western but mannnn who knew Tim McGraw could act
