The special is set 3 years prior to the drama series, with the story being related to a murder case that was partly referenced in the original show. Detective Kusanagi is looking to solve a murder mystery, and he gets back in touch with his former badminton teammate, the brilliant professor Yukawa Manabu. --Tokyograph
The body of a male has been discovered, strangled to death, his face pulverized beyond recognition and fingers burned to a crisp. Assigned to the case are local precinct detective, Kaoru Utsumi, and her ex"colleague from headquarters, Shunpei Kusanagi. It turns out that the neighbor of the victim's ex"wife is a college alumnus of brilliant physicist, Manabu Yukawa, aka “Detective Galileo."He is Tetsuya Ishigami, a high school math teacher whom Yukawa personally considers a true genius. When Yukawa is brought onto help with the case by Utsumi, he begins to suspect that this “true genius"and a with whom Yukawa shares a bond of friendship as an intellectual equal is somehow connected to the murder. Elaborate bluffs, false testimonials, loopholes in logic − all begin to appear in Detective Galileo's way as if intentionally placed as a challenge by someone with mathematical brilliance.
Detective Utsumi Kaoru (Shibasaki Kou), who works at Kaizuka Kita Police Precinct, has not been able to find her place in the male-dominated world of the police precinct. She is eventually encouraged by her boss to train for a year in Oklahoma in the United States, and stands at life’s crossroads. One day, Kaoru detains Jonen Kenichi (Santamaria Yusuke), a man placed on the Nagano Prefectural Police’s wanted list. He is with an old woman who is already dead. The old woman was being cared for by him. Jonen had killed a lady at the nursing care facility after getting into an argument with her, and came to Tokyo with this old woman. Kaoru gets a confession from him and is about to regain her confidence as a police officer. However, just as Jonen gets transferred to the Nagano Prefectural Police, he completely denies the charges, declaring that it is entirely different from the statement Kaoru had obtained. Kaoru ends up suspected of lying in order to take credit for herself.

Manabu meets Kyohei who came to the inn, which is run by his aunt's family, for summer vacation. The next morning, Tsukahara, who is another guest at the inn, is found dead on the bank of a port. Manabu becomes involved in the case.

Physicist Manabu Yukawa returns to Japan from America. Detective Kaoru Utsumi visits him and talks about a case. The case is about a popular girl in a town who disappeared and, several years later, her body was found. A suspect was arrested for her murder. That suspect was previously arrested for another girl's murder, but he was released due to a lack of evidence. Detective Shunpei Kusanagi investigated the prior murder case. The same suspect was then released due to a lack of evidence for the most recent murder case. The released man returned to his town, where everybody hated him. On the day of the autumn festival parade, the man was killed. Physicist Manabu Yukawa, Detective Kaoru Utsumi and Detective Shunpei Kusanagi work together on his case.
A young man dies from burns to the head when partying out with his friends at night. Police investigators believe it to be an accident caused by the firecrackers the deceased possesses, but his friends claim spontaneous human combustion. Kaoru Utsumi, the rookie police investigator assigned to this case, seeks help from Manabu Yukawa, an associate professor of Teito University. The two begin their investigation and discover the dark truth behind this murder.
An OL is found murdered in her apartment. The police quickly apprehended a man, the victim's insurance agent, who they believe to be the suspect. The man claims to be taking a nap in his vehicle when the murder takes place, but is unable to produce a credible alibi. However, a boy comes forward and claims to have seen the man's vehicle near his house, which is considerably distant from the murder scene. The only catch is that the boy claims to have seen the vehicle while experiencing astral projection.
After working overnight, the exhausted Utsumi receives a call from Yukawa, who asks her for help in finding one of his student's brother-in-law. The man has been missing for over a week, and the wife has tracked down the last known location of her husband - a house owned by a recently deceased old woman and is now occupied by the woman's nephew and some suspicious persons. The wife believes that her husband is in the house, and convicnes Utsumi to search the house with her. However, while searching the premise, the house suddenly rattles violently. The frighten Utsumi believes it to be the rage of a poltergeist.
A girl is found dead in the swimming pool in her house. The cause of death is determined to be heart attack, and police rules the death natural. However, Utsumi spots a purple mark on the victim's chest, and asks the coroner to analyze it. It is revealed to be necrosis, which prompts Utsumi to consider the girl's death suspicious. It is later revealed that two more victims have died under the same circumstance, which strengthens Utsumi's belief that this is a homicide case.
A man is found murder in a hotel room, there is no sign of force-entry, no sign of struggle, and witness claims no one has entered the room besides the victim. Another witness who works in the building across from the window claims to have seen ghost fire - a statement that interests Yukawa and prompts him into uncovering the secret behind the man's death.
One of Utsumi's childhood friend is wanted for trespassing after he breaks into a young girl's house. While on the run, he contacts Utsumi and claims to have known the girl for a long time, and it is her who told him to go to his house. There are also evidences suggesting this man has known the girl's since he was a child and the girl was not even born yet, and that there is an unknown tie between him, the girl, and Utsumi. Utsumi, determined to help his friend, persuades Yukawa to solve the mystery behind the man's dream.
An ordinary guy who doesn't have much physical appeals to others had just married a beautiful woman, and when another pretty woman flirted with him, he completely got carried away and cheated on his newly-wedded wife. Now the mistress demands that he divorce his wife or she will hang herself, which she did and died across the street in the building where the guy was able to see her through his window. Police came, news got spread, and the beautiful wife learned about the mistress and left the guy. It is a common love-triangle-gone-bad situation, only that the guy claims that he had seen somebody trying to hang herself in the exact same manner in the exact same unit across the street only a week ago. What did he really saw? Or does he really have the ability of premonition?
A cooking instructor was murdered in her office, but while she was being murdered, she appeared right before her sister to warn her about the killing... 30km away!
A man is found dead exploded in a lake. Meanwhile, in a school, an art student produced a piece he called 'The Death Mask' which accurately resembles a missing person. A disturbing past was also discovered between Yukawa and the prime suspects of the murders.
Yukawa confrots his ex-teacher regarding the double-murders which then ended up in the death of the secretary of his teacher. After, Utsumi is faced with a life-threatening situation that only Yukawa can handle.
