Must be summer — a time when networks unleash a bunch of filler TV that wasn’t good enough to make the fall schedule when viewership is higher. Not all summer series are bad, but American Gothic sure is.
By-the-numbers plot, TV-cardboard actors, definitive boredom. Wouldn’t even want to watch this if it were free-to-view on a transatlantic flight.
The pilot was a little tepid IMO.

Oh God, I got to the box of silver bells in the shed and pressed stop. That was quite enough for me. Avoid.

Please don't waste your time watching this. As someone who was anticipating this series, this was one of the biggest letdowns of the summer, even more so than Outcast. The story is clumsy, poorly acted, uninspired, and ultimately forgettable. I imagine this will not be back for another season. Episode 3 was the bottom for me, it was the most boring hour of TV ever. And the cinematography is horrid.
