Really loved this season and the addition of the guy playing michael, who did a fantastic job selling all sides of his character. I enjoyed the flashbacks and web of interconnections to other seasons and some of the obscurer ones to discover really blew my mind.
This was like watching a season of Bewitched, only worse!
Not the best season of AHS, but a satisfying one. It was fun seeing familiar faces and places once again and the finale felt like a solid conclution to this chapter.
This season had the potential to be a really good one but it fails in the middle. Still, it was not hard to be better than Cult that really had no interest.
First three episodes are the post apocalypse part. They raise quite a few questions, most of which, as is usual, are not really answered. But they are quite boring, and most of the characters are annoying. Just points for Sarah Paulson's character (though her pre apocalypse version seen later in the season is just as uninteresting). And of course introducing Langdon that seems like an interesting fellow, and the come back of the Coven witches at the end.
The next three episodes are the ones that make the season worth watching. Flashback to three years before, the story of who is Michael Langdon, culminating in the discovery that he is the Antichrist AND the baby for the Murder House season. Those are great, the story is interesting, and they keep on the plot. Like, this season HAS a plot !
The Return to Murder House episode in itself is on of the best of the show. It's not only obvious fan service, it ties nicely in the plot of both seasons. On one hand the slow discovery of what Michael is, through the Madison/Behold duo which works wonderfully, on the other hand it evolves the story and brings closure to all the main characters from Murder House. Perfect.
Aaaaand after that it has the usual defects of the other seasons. Instead of going back to the confrontation we're ready for at the end of the 3rd episode, it stays in flashbacks, with extra parallels characters and stories that are mostly uninteresting. We need to wait for the second half of the last episode to finally get the confrontation that is very VERY disappointing. We don't really see how the Apocalypse was planned, or how the half crybaby Michael becomes the way more badass Langdon we see later. As for the way it's solved, just argh..
What was annoying with the Coven season was that nobody ever stayed dead. Resurrection is supposed to be one of the seven wonders but there are way too many characters that can do it and everybody keeps being brought back to life. However some were still supposed to really be lost for plot reasons... but Michael could still bring them back in this season. Let's note that Cordelia makes him bring back Misty during the seven wonders, so that she would have more weapons to fight him and we basically never see her after that.
Now when Michael kills people he also destroys their soul, so this time they definitely stay dead for realsies. NOPE, because TIME TRAVEL ! Oh! Come! On! Plus the post resolution scene make no sense. Like Mallory stays in the past after killing Michael ? Where is her younger self then ? And she stills bring the other people back from the dead... Can nobody feel she's a Supreme ?
And despite being overpowered like that, we barely see anything from Mallory, that's a shame.
+1 on some small points:
- the Papa Legba Cameo (and Marie Laveau even if here it's just unnecessary fan service)
- Coco, the witch that can see the calories in a dish
- the satanic cult and specially the leader
- the Hotel cameo
A big negative point on the start-up guys that we see way too much at then end and that must be the worse, most uninteresting and annoying characters of the whole show.
How this crappy season has higher rating than any of the previous 4? Like seriously, this is the worst season ever. Even Cult was better and that's saying something.
wow this has to be in the top 3 seasons of AHS. This was so good and I enjoyed every bit of it!
Btw Cody Fern is just so hot when he's crying...okay I'm out
I really enjoyed this season. I have a weakness for all of these witches so I was excited to see them again but also some of the Murder House characters (I just wish we got to see a little bit more of the Murder House characters but that's just a small detail). Cody Fern should become a series regular, his portrayal of Michael Langdon is fantastic and also yes, because he is a damn fine snack.
Sarah Paulson absolutely stole the show with all three of her characters!
I agree that the season could have been scarier, grander, it was a bit timid but the storytelling made up for that in my opinion. To start with recent events already in place and do most of the seasons through flashbacks was a great move, they kept a sense of mystery this way and it all tied together nicely at the end
Amongst all those familliar faces I did miss Dennis O'Hare though...
"Apocalypse" has a quite interesting premise, with the weirdest assortment of metrosexual human beings stuck in a high society bunker ruled by a mysterious and sadistic mason organization. But this only takes about one-third of the season. The rest is just a long series of flashbacks revealing that the Apocalypse was actually brought by an alliance between the Illuminating and the Antichrist (and let's not forget his milk-fed robot assistant!!) in a war against the witches. The show brings back fan-favorite characters from previous seasons, but their appearances are wasted or have little purpose in terms of plot. As it happened with "Coven", the deaths of any of the characters have zero emotional impact, as we know that literally anyone can be resurrected. The Antichrist can erase people's souls forever, but of course, why don't we try time travel to fix everything? Calling this season out of focus would be giving a compliment, it looks like they decided to re-write the show half-season and thought about the weirdest way to make everything fit by episode 10. Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters play a billion characters and need to be in all episodes at any cost. Literally nothing happens until the last episode, and so much time is wasted on events that have close to no impact on the plot, like the feud between the Coven and the Hogwarts Boys' School of Magic or characters like Misty and Queenie being brought to life just to disappear a few moments later.
This theme had such a potential.
But it has been completely wasted.
The episodes in the outpost were just dumb, boring and retarded beyond belief
And the ending where she killed the Antichrist with a fucking car? Give me a break lol. They could have some epic battle or just about anything more exciting. .
I rate it "There's no point sitting around worrying about the a pocalypse,
because what we should be really scared of is Armageddon" out of ten.
Easily the best season yet! Love how previous seasons are tying together in this season making it all one big story instead of each season being their own. Just wish they’d let go of the vocal saying ‘weird shit’ on repeat in the show’s op/ed. so friggin’ annoying! :face_with_hand_over_mouth:
Less a stand-alone narrative than a sequel to Murder House, Hotel, and especially Coven, American Horror Story: Apocalypse makes explicit what fans have implicitly known since Pepper (Naomi Grossman) was committed to Briarcliff towards the end of Freak Show - each season takes place in a shared universe (as well as being a sequel to the three aforementioned seasons, Apocalypse also features oblique references to Asylum, Freak Show, and Roanoke). In recent years, the show has unquestionably stumbled, first with the poorly constructed meta-narrative of Roanoke and then with the horrendous Cult, leaving a fanbase yearning for a return to the brilliance of Murder House and Asylum. Apocalypse is nowhere near as good as those glory days, but it's a damn sight better than the last two seasons.

Started with much promise then trailed off into a mess.
This season was not good at all. I just got around to watching it and didn't realize it was just going to be an even worse version of Coven than Coven was. I didn't particularly like the Coven season of this show to begin with and it seemed like we were tricked into this. The first few episodes have basically nothing to do with anything and then the rest is just boring.
Acredito que deveria ter mais pitadas de sal nessa temporada. Senti muita falta de muita coisa!
Did anyone from actors/actresses or production watched this??? There is nothing to like nothing to watch, just a waste of time.
They could have done nuclear winter, they could have done completely different antichrist story without witches but no they decided to mix it all up and add robot.
This show is become a joke after season 3, getting worse by every season.
It could have been a very interesting season but as soon as they showed the Coven's characters I realized it would have been trash. And I wasn't wrong
The worst season! So many boring episodes, the only good thing was the witches and that's it

It's really disappointing how they've managed to take a premise with so much potential and make it into something so profoundly dull. How many episodes have we spent in flashbacks so far? Too many. The season's called Apocalypse, we all came here for the Apocalypse, enough with the pre-Apocalypse already.
