I watched this show to complete the SATC collection. I didn't ask for it - I wouldn't care if AJLT was never aired.
It's of course nice to see these women again. They are still charismatic. Except fpr Miranda who acts very differently and seems to have transformed into a totally different person, all persons reprise their roles from 20 years back. This alone gives you a cozy feeling. Shout out to Anthony btw - I'd totally watch a show just about him. Just like SATC it's a mediocre show. Innocuous family entertainment It isn't as funny or silly as the original show. It strikes a more serious and more mature tone. Unlike SATC I can't see it ever to be perceived as an iconic show. They have even removed most of the sex bits - but when they depict sex, they stick to the SATC trademark: sex scenes are silly and definitely not hot.
SATC had a serious problem with race and class. Mainly because those issue were never discussed in SATC and the women felt totally detached from real world issues. AJLT tries to make up for this by discussing a dozen or so of contemporary political issues. But that feels insincere and forced. They try too hard. I'd prefer a more subtle approach. This overshadows partly what this innocuous and apolitical show is supposed to be about: relationships, romance, friendship, fashion, New York, love, parenting.
