This was the worst episode so far, simply because it was the only time I had to suffer through that horrible Imagine Dragons song... :face_vomiting:
Loving the dynamic between Vi and Caitlyn. Great characters to pair up both very different backgrounds on the same track for different reasons. A familiar and welcome trope.
Caitlin is badass! And she even looked damn fine in that dress at the end... :)
Viktor is indeed sick :o Let's see how long he has and what the hextech can do for him. At least Jayce is still there for him.
And I'm not surprised that Mel and Jayce are (finally) a thing now (just a bit surprised that Jayce let it happen so easily... - I thought he was in love with Caitlin).
I like Vi's parkour moves! She's a fighter and an athlete.
Vi and Cupcake (:D) are already very fun together. "You're an alright shot."
Now I wonder if there's still some hope left for Jinx (Silco seemed quite afraid when he heard of Vi's return).
Another solid episode of Arcane. For one, with Caitlyn, looks like she's getting really close to unravelling the source of all these heists and attacks on Pultivor, and luckily she happened to find Violet to lead her, after (thanks to Jayce's new authority as council member) freeing Violet from prison to lead the way in the undercity. Im glad there's people like Caitlyn in Pultovir, someone with royal status who seems to genuinally care for people rather than just engaging in corrupt business dealings for her own sake. Also, man I really feel bad for Violet, she's spent years in jail after losing litrally everyone she's cared about in her life, and thinking that Violet has been captured by Silco, but after a confrontation with one of Silco's henchman (a woman who fromerly was an ally to Vander but switched sides because she didnt like how passive Vander had become) Violet learned that rather than capturing her, Powder, or now Jinx, has been willingly workign for Silco, and Silco treats Jinx as a daughter. Man Silco is an interesting villain, someone who used to be a respected name in Zaun and was essentially brothers with Vander as they worked together to forge a prosperous nation of Zaun, but after being betrayed and nearly drowned by Vander, Silco abandoned the "weak" man he used to be back when he was allies with Vander, and is now focused on doing whatever is deemed neccessary, even killing people of Zaun, to achieve his vision for Zaun. And now he has basiacally adopted JInx, who has stolen a powerful magical orb wiith the power to transform Zaun like it did for Pultivor, and Jinx is currently struggling with the memories of her last day as Powder, when Jinx accidentally killed all her friends and indirectly caused Vander's death, just as Violet was about to rescue Vander. Man I really enjoy how the visuals are used to show Jinx's dissent into insantiy as memories of that day, and her past freinds flood through Jinx's mind, with the intense neon colors, scribbles, and camera cuts emphasizing the mental instability of Jinx and she grapples with regret of what she did on that day, espeically as she starts trying to tamper with the magical orb she stole since its identical the the ones that killed her friends. Though now it seems like Jinx is planning on erasing her past self, Powder, as Silco recreates the drowning event that erased his past "weak" self with Jinx, with asort of baptism of Jinx thats meant to give her a sort of rebirth into a stronger person whose no longer trapped by her past self. Also, coming back to Pultivor, man I'm started to get worried about Jayce. Jayce and Viktor are on the brink of a new breakthrough with HexTech, as Viktor discovered that could make Hextech learn and adapt into having more functions, ratehr than trying to harness different magical gems for different functions as tools, though things are getting increasingly dangerous. And its starting to seem like Madera, who "invested" into Jayce for her goal of bringing an innovation out of Pultivor, is becoming a corrupting influence on Jayce, with her getting Jayce more involved in corrupt political affairs as he starts making business dealings with all these corrupt royals to remove this target on his back so he can continue his HexTech research, with Jayce now creating Hextech partners. And now that Madera and Jayce have slept together, it's looking like Madera is goign to become alot more involved in Jayce's actions. It sucks that since Jayce was trying to rid Pultivor of corruption by tightening security, it's caused council members and royals to try and take down Hextech and Jayce, but such is the nature of corrupt politcal affairs. Also, im worried about my guy Viktor, the way he was looking down at that tunnel thing, and now that his blood mixed with the magic crystal Viktor has been tampering with, I wonder what's going to happen to him. It's clear that Viktor is alot more focused on the vision that Jayce is now, I wonder what he's planning to do, assuming he survives long enough to do something (given that he's been hospitalized after passing out in this episode, and now only have a short time of life left). Also, man Im really disliking this Marcus guy, with him working with Silco for monetary benefits as he looks over the hiests that Silco's men commit, I mean he was bad before I never wouldve though he'd work with the people of Zaun for his profits. Though atleast he recognized how awful the things he's doing are, with that one scene where Marcus though abotu sacrificing himself to kill Silco, ending all of this bloodshed by snipping the root of it. Morever, im really enjoying the friendship between Caitlyn and Violet as they're working together to track down Silco. Plus, the animation and seeing Violet again this episode was delightful, it was so refreshing seeing Violet parkour across the undercity as she edges closer to Silco's wherabouts, and man I just love Violets personality.
Yoo the scenes and use of music here are insane !! I love the one in the opera, the sex scene intercutting with Viktor working and dropping, Marcus confronting Silco and imagining himself playing martyr, Jinx going back to that arcade thing, Enemy and Sevika and Vi fighting, and Vi's little smirk and telling Caitlyn "you look hot, cupcake!"
I am now afraid of councilor Medarda since I cannot figure out her true intentions with Jayce. Like did she really believe in his vision, or is she just hoping to use him??
Also just realized that Jinx is always perched on the beams beneath the ceilings. I wonder if she can hang on to them.
Excited to see where Vi was these past few years.
World and atmosphere becomes more interesting as it goes although it reminds me more and more of Bioshok, sadly characters are going backwards. I guess, it's my fault for buying into narrative around Arcane as a promising character study or trauma exploration. Mature at the very least.
I love all those tropes and characters dynamics. The way this series started that was a perfect storm of familiar stepping stones in the plot and character archetypes: the main character, the gang, roguish father figure with dark past. I really liked the escalation and Vi's decision to face the music that led to such tragedy.
But after timeskip Arcane lost it charm. Characters that supposed to become more complex turned into one note - Jinx and Vi. The "Batman" might work eventually, but we will see. Speaking of Batman. Cupcake and Vi should be my favorite thing especially with the hints of romance with that banter... Look, I really love those cliches, alright? And yet I see too many strings. Final nail - Victor's thing ...that's too many familiar beats. At this rate, amnesia mind be on the writer's table.
I liked this one the least, it focuses more on the negative side of the story such as widespread corruption and crime, the only positive thing is that Violet is out of prison and makes friends with Caitlyn. I also liked the short part of the female enforcer voiced by the actress from "The Expanse", she was an interesting character and it is a pity that her stay on the show was so brief.
Product placement at its finest, but damn this animation is fantastic.
7/10
Good episode with a few uninteresting parts. Vi and Jayce are the 2 best characters so far and Jinx keeps on becoming worse for me.
Who's that? Caitlyn?
Grayson: "What are you shooting for?"
Viktor is sick :O
PTSD :|
I'll be honest, Cait's uniform looks very impractical
Cait and Vi are the dreamteam
She's fighting the ghost of Vi :O
What is Medarda up to? :|
Vi: "You're hot, cupcake. So what'll it be, man or woman?"
Silco: "Imaging yourself a hero? One final act to make you the maryr you've always seen yourself as?"
Jayce: "I couldn't have done it without you."
Viktor: "Good night, Miss Young."
Woman: "Rotten luck, boys!"
Vi: "You gonna help me out, cupcake?"
Cait: "Stop calling me that. My name is Caitlyn."
Vi: "But you're so sweet. Like a cupcake."
Cait: [Chuckles.] "Shut up."

Damn, I'm hoping Jinx comes back around soon. But at the same time she could be a fun, chaotic villain.... I'm so conflicted :c
