[7.2/10] This was kind of a side dish to the main story, but an enjoyable one. I like “Danger Island”’s reimagining of Barry as a German ace who’s shot down Archer five times. It’s a nice way of putting a chip on Archer’s shoulders and finding an excuse for the show to bust out some cool dog fight animation.
Archer’s PTSD flashbacks make for a nice connection to the last season, and while the laughs aren’t as strong as in the prior, more-dialogue heavy episode, the mere presence of Barry as “Ziegler” and his gang of German pilots is worth a laugh.
Plot-wise, I appreciate the fact that Cyril brought these guys over to bomb the cannibals and lizards on the island with the idol. And Cheryl turning the tables on Mallory after winning the affections of the Germans who have occupied the island and thrown Ray into the trash can is a fun development.
I’ll admit, this episode feels a little more one-note than the prior ones, with Archer’s rivalry with Barry/Ziegler not providing as strong a backbone as some other animating ideas for an episode. But it’s still solid and amusing throughout.
This show... needs to be fixed, for REAL. Or, unfortunately, put out of its misery. It's a long way from its heyday. I want to love Archery soooo badly but this season's poor writing is not helping. At all.

The humor continues to be almost non-existent, and a pattern that I first noticed in the season premiere just gets more and more pronounced. Specifically, this is a 19-minute outing (if you don't count the credits) and it contains 16 goddammits and three Jesuses and eight shits. (It's easy to let a subtitles file do the counting for you after the fact.) So while the humor content drops, the vulgarity/profanity content goes through the roof. Yes, of course the show has always had it, but not to this degree, and not combined with such a dearth of funny stuff to go along with it. There also used to be a subtlety to some things that just isn't there anymore. In short, this continues to be a disappointing season.
