Billions: Season 5

5x10 Liberty

I honestly don't care about the money/revenge part of the show anymore. Axe & Wend getting together is something I desperately want to see, and them screwing over Chuck together.

They running out of material? I hope the egg scene was a one off. Too many slow boring paced shows to watch already..

What was the point of the kitchen scene towards the end. That was so random. I don’t get it.

Regardless of the fact a lot of things have happened in the past seasons that can be considered as such... I found this episode introducing our beloved Covid and how they handled it in the show fairly disgusting.

From the masks, the vax crap, the rich kid zoom diners, the works...

PS Also what was up with that stitched scene at the end in the kitchen? Why? What was it about? Pretty neat if they actually stitched together the three footages like that but still.... Pointless, boring and out of place.

I'm actually surprised people here are rooting for Axe. I don't get it. I have always rooted for Chuck, am I the only one?

I'm not sure what I crave more after watching this episode- a full course Thanksgiving Day meal or some eggs and French bread.

I liked the scene of cooking eggs, it felt so oddly satisfying, in a way. Homage to the movie Big Night. Awesome! Wthout any dialogue spoken. What a brilliant scene!

Lol, what the hell was the point of that breakfast scene?? (I see in the comments that it's an homage - so I guess this is a rhetorical question.)

Axe being into Wendy was made obvious at the end of S4, but has honestly been at least somewhat evident since the beginning of this show. I don't really have an opinion on it one way or the other, except that I hope it's not going to be annoying.

One thing about the divorce - last season, when they were still married, Wendy wanted to sell the house. So why is that not a thing now that they're divorced? Seems like she'd want it to happen even more now.

It was kind of weird to have a bunch of people in masks (due to COVID), except for the principal characters. Either should've gone all the way with it, or not at all.

Probably the best episode of the show so far.
So much happening here.

The way they introduced COVID is great because it really feels like what we experienced. And since Billions was always attached to reality (that's why they're talking about crypto or cannabis), they definitely had to talk about COVID. Otherwise they would have missed the biggest event of the present time in which the show is supposed to happen.

The breakfast scene is also superb.
Usually in Billions with see crazy stuff, people playing with lots of power, lots of money. But here, for a few minutes, we see the simple things of these people's lives. Yes, they eat. Yes, they cook. Yes, they wait. Yes, they know how to keep it quiet when no talk is needed.
Also it's a great balance between what Rhoades and Prince did the during the night, that could impact millions of lives, involves billions of dollars. And here they are, tired and hungry. And they are quiet, waiting to eat.
Brilliant.

Talking about the thousand other stuffs happening would be spoiling so I won't, but this episode was simply awesome.

It's getting too vindictive to enjoy. I'd like to see them succeed more, honestly, it seems they are slipping farther into mob-type behavior. Getting back to the genius writing of the first few seasons will pull the show up out of the gutter direction.

Really loved that scene with Chuck cooking the eggs. Fantastic, a nice breath of fresh air.

On the other hand, I really hate that they leaned into the COVID angle so heavily. Outside of medical dramas, I wish shows would completely ignore it. I don't want to be reminded of real-life shit shows when I'm watching TV. It just felt so forced and out of place, and it's really annoying. Definitely dropped this episode by at least one rating in my eyes.
