I've only seen the first two episodes, but so far, I'm in love. I enjoy the fact that this isn't just another superhero vs super villain show but actually shows the real-world struggles of the black community. It is good to see that TV is no longer afraid to portrait this. Please take all of this with a grain of salt as I'm writing this as a privileged white dude.
I think the writers favorite word is "bitch".
They wanted to do a lot but didn't develop anything. Too many villains ( Tobias, Proctor, Lady Eve, ... ) that are not fully exploited. For a season with 13 episodes they should have chosen 1 and save the others for the rest of the series.
I hope it gets better in the next season or it will be a sacrifice to watch just to be up to date on the crosovers.
All right, this is a lazy Sunday, it's raining outside and I'm all out of shows to watch, that is the only reason I'm willing to start watching season 2, because season one that i just finished was, to put it mildly, lame.
The drama is so cliché that at times I was able to finish word for word the lines that the poor actors that got embarked on this sad affair were forced to mechanically read even before they pronounced them. That's saying something about how damn lazy the writing is.
And really the only book an albino character named Tobias Whale is ever shown to read through the whole show is the copy of Moby Dick eminently displayed on his desk ? And the heroes parade around with nothing but a little mask (an in one case some golden make up) on their face without ever anybody put 2 and 2 together, especially the detective that has dinner with the main character on a regular basis ? I know it's a DC tradition (no one ever recognizes Clark Kent/Superman or Kara/Supergirl) but the suspension of disbelief can only go so far.
Don't even start me on the season's villain, openly racist, blond, bad hair and repeating over and over that he wants to "Make America Great Again" the analogy is so transparent that it's pitiful (and I'm certainly no fan of its analog in the white house).
I'm not even marking the few spoilers above, they disclose nothing important and if the writers can't make the effort to write better i'm certainly not gonna make the effort to not disclose their bad ideas.
It's a shame that the world Black Lightning lives in exists only of colored people. The story is interesting and fitting. The music is what you would expect of such a show, lot's of rap/r&b/hip-hop.

the vibes of the show gives me a bit of feeling of marvel shows. overall it's a good one portraying the superpowers and a regular person. the CGI could be a lot nicer though. it's not bad but it seems ordinary. actors r good, storyline is also kind of good. didn't finish the season 1 yet but will be waiting for season 2. oh hey season 2 trailer is already out, i didn't watch it yet lol
