[7.2/10] This is a reasonably satisfying finale. Corky as the killer makes sense. Dawn and Mo finally get together. The shtick with the “plan boys” humor isn’t bad. It doesn’t knock my socks off, but it’s a solid resolution to the various balls Black Monday had batted into the air this season, so I have to give it that.
Mo being overwhelmed in the moment, mixed with some placebo effect about sodium pentothal, to the point that he gives a really sweet speech to Dawn at their “fake” wedding is a nice moment. It is, as Black Monday must be, mixed with some sophomoric humor about Dawn wanting to do butt stuff with Mo, but it’s funny enough. I like where the two end up, even if it was tortured road to get there.
The killer material is fine too. The whole misdirect with Lenny Leighman isn’t particularly good or funny, and I say that as someone who generally likes Ken Marino’s shtick. But Corky’s explanation for what and why she did is satisfying enough, and I like that Tiff gets the save for once! Her return and the explanation for it are plausible enough in the heightened reality of this show, and I like her and Blair getting to renew their friendship/partnership.
Overall, this was the weakest season of Black Monday yet. We got enough of a dead cat bounce here at the end to make this a fond farewell to the show without tarnishing it further. (Granted, Keith’s still a crummy position, but whatever.) The love triangle, wacky sitcom hijinks, and other outlandish stuff really showed the series flailing to come up with new stuff to do with its characters and otherwise top itself. There were still a few gems, and I’d rather the show went out, if not on top, then at least on middle, rather than sinking any lower.
