Felt a lot like M*A*S*H to me, the way it balanced absurd comedy and poking fun at the absurdity of war, while at the same time shining a light on the tragedy of it. There were great comic moments, like Baldrick's poems while George sits with rapt attention and Blackadder sits with his face in his hands. I really enjoy the dynamic of Baldrick as the idiotically downtrodden pessimist, George as the idiotically chipper optimist, and Blackadder as the cynic making sarcastic remarks at the both of them.
The final scene of the charge fading into the poppies is a powerful one, as is the soldiers admitted that they're scared. There's a lot of good stuff here, in both the commentary, the comedy, and the pathos of everything. In the end, I probably still prefer S2 better, but there were a lot of good laughs here, and a little heft behind them as well.
