[7.4/10] The A-story is good here. Tina wanting to leave a legacy at Wagstaff, seeing the opportunity with a school song contest, and feeling conflicted between that desire and her natural moral compass is a good beat. Anything that involves Tina struggling with the ethics of something is usually good and on-brand for her. There’s something particularly heartening about the way she not only chooses to do what’s right over what would let her leave a mark (via underhanded means) and the way her brother and sister help her.
But honestly, what I really love about the A-story is the humor. All the kids’ songs are just glorious. My favorite was Rudy talk-singing his way through a thinly-veiled “Love Shack” pastiche, but they were all great. Courtney trying to hit a high D, Tammy trying to sponge for applause by including all the students’ name, Jocelyn just trying to say “whoa” over and over again, and Jimmy Jr. and Zeke’s “Wagstaff school I want to be inside you” were all amusingly childish and silly in the best way.
This is also a great Frond episode. His use of the word “stalwart”, his lamenting the poor outcome of “Take a Stranger to School Day” and, his acknowledgment that he and Tina aren't’ great but mean well was all superb.
I was less enamored with the B-story. It involves Jimmy Pesto installing a reflective awning that sends light directly into the Belchers’ restaurant. It’s a good comic setup, but the show just doesn't get that many laughs out of it. I did get a kick from Trev and his continued support/subtle undermining of Jimmy. And Teddy is amusing as usual.
Overall, a pretty good episode where the thing that shines (no pun intended) is the kid-based comedy.

I'm still cracking at Teddy when he tries to hold the cardboard against the glass :joy::rofl:
