this two-parter was so sweet... GO TINA!
can't wait for the movie this memorial day weekend.
[7.5/10] I still liked this one, but not quite as much as the first half. The sci-fi dystopia of Tina’s journal was such a unique setting. I wish we’d gotten to spend more time there, and to have the resolution of Tina’s story in the real world parallel more with the story in her fictional one.
That said, there’s a good message here, even if it ends up a little muddled. It’s hard to feel judged, but being vulnerable with the things you love and want to champion is still worth it. I think that’s what they’re going for. Still, Tina’s “Wouldn’t it be nice if people were mutually supportive of one another” seems like it shouldn’t be too much to ask, especially when it’s teachers who are complicit in the student body shaming that Tammy and Jocelyn are doing.
Still, I like the idea that Tammy started “Wow or Weird” because she was self-conscious about her braces, and changed things up once she realized how it was hurting Tina. I still sort of hate Tammy. She’s just a jerk through-and-through, but I don’t mind her getting redeemed a little bit.
The humor was solid. I did like the glimpses into Tina’s other movie parodies. (I got a big laugh out of “The Fast and the Flirtiest”.) The Robert Smigel-voiced security guard going on and on about his t-shirt design was funny. And the rest of the Belcher family trying to scheme their way into the school and talk Tina down from her path of righteous self-destruction led to some good Bob’s Burgers banter.
Overall, though, this one just didn’t end with the energy or punch that the first half did. It felt a little more rambling and halting, and I don’t know if they fully nailed the landing on the episode’s themes. Still, it’s a nice end to the season, and the robo-dance that closes things out is an endearing, if not overwhelming way to end Tina’s story for now.
This two-part episode finds a better, more elegant way to do movie homages than Family Guy ever has. Bravo, fantastic work.

This feels like a warm up for the movie in the best way. The lighting, the music, the visuals, the voice acting… there’s even a fun little foreshadowing. But on its own, it’s an incredibly satisfying season finale. Smaller scale than Felix’s debut, less physical stakes. But that emotional focus is what makes it so great. The ending sequence is just the Belchers luxuriating in the little victories. Someone loudly liking a burger. Finding the right gift for your daughter. Delicious boba. And just taking pride in the weirdo you are and finding a commonality not just between your family, but someone you’d never expect. This is Bob’s Burgers at its finest, twelve seasons in, and it has me so excited for the movie.
