[7.3/10] This one’s pretty blunt, but still fun. It’s clear that Bob’s dissatisfaction with no one ordering his burger of the day is a means of connecting him with the D&D Game Master who wants to do something different and imaginative with her friends but is worried about how they’ll take it. The lesson about taking a swing and doing something creative and challenging is well taken, if a little trite under the circumstances.
Still, it works because of the good laughs. The D&D GM is fun in her anxiousness, Gene is a great one-boy Greek chorus, and Bob yawning and pushing the burger of the day and worrying about how the game’s going is a lot of fun. However simple, the bones of the story are good, and the laughs are there to make it entertaining.
The story of Linda’s determination to build a loft for Louise, with her daughters’ help, in order to prove that they’re strong and independent works on much the same terms. The thrust of it is simple, but it’s sweet to have Linda be touched that even if she’s not as handy or capable as she’d like to be, her girls are. And the laughs of the two sisters trying to build things at Linda’s direction, and Linda trying to pretend she didn’t hurt her arm, are quality enough to make the story go down smooth. Plus the little song and montage with Teddy helping during the end credits is really cute.
Overall, nothing too amazing here, but a pair of solidly-done stories with enough laughs to lift them up.
I love Louise's new bedroom! So nice!
"it has a burning smell"
"is it powered by coal?" :joy:
